My Master

O Love, You are my Master,
You teach me all I do;
You sing in every word I speak,
You bless each hour anew.

At last I hold the precious Pearl,
And weep with joy profound;
I searched for love, but knew it not
Until God s Love I found.

His Grace has made me strong and whole,
So now, for all my days,
I ll tend the garden of the soul
That Love may be my praise.

If I should plant a barren tree,
Thistles would it bear;
But if I water it with love,
A garland I shall wear.

I want to see the tree in flower
Before I reach my latest hour,
So up and down, and to and fro
I ll spend my love and watch it grow!

But when I pick the roses fine
That crown the season s birth,
I ll know it was not work of mine,
But goodness in the earth.
