Jesus my Friend

Jesus, be my first true Friend-

No other shall I own;

Who bore my griefs, Who bore my pains

Till Yours and mine were one.

My Lord, I pray You, give me time,

To know and serve Your Ways-

Do not take me to glory

Before I ve shared my days.

I want to walk the path You trod

That s spread with joys and sadness;

Until all things resolve in God,

And sorrow turns to gladness.

Teach me to bear the thorns of life

Victoriously, as a crown;

And shine the light of tenderness

From Your Passion flowing down.

I ask Your grace to strengthen me,

And lead my steps above;

And, with compassion s burning fire,

O Jesus, give me love!
