| May 4, 2005 Dear Governor Ehrlich, I am writing to ask you not to sign HB-1129. This bill puts developers' interests ahead of citizens' safety, and I object to that. It is wrong to allow houses to be built, knowing that the people who will live in them won't be adequately protected in the case of fire, medical emergency, or criminal activity. It is a mistake to suggest that the surcharge which could be collected for each house comes without strings attached. The houses will be constructed and occupied long before the money collected can be used to strengthen Prince George's County's inadequate fire/EMS and police forces. In the meantime, our county will continue to struggle with overcrowded schools and highways, higher crime rates, and unhealthy pollution, problems which further development will exacerbate. Please show how much you value Marylanders' safety by vetoing HB-1129. Sincerely, |
