Scarred by life events and fed up with the lack of originality in the mainstream, Sam Hodge is spoonPhase. In October of 2002, a young drummer decided to take matters into his own hands and create music with complete creative control. This project would be called thE sounD of dirT.
thE sounD of dirT, would be the escape of the world and represent all of the nastiness therein... Man's every secret desire, perversion, and nightmare covered the sound of this music like a nasty glaze. Sam Hodge, calling himself dirT, or thE sounD of dirT, explored many different subgenres and found love for almost all parts of the electronica world, mainly that of Industrial, IDM, Ambient, and Experimental music.
Many contacts were made and eyes were opened up as a result of this exploration The first album, ...things of joy, was a way for the artist to find his way into the world of electronica as he began work on A Dead Dream. This album paved the way for many better reviews and increased comfort in what Sam was doing. Death almost found him during studio work on this album but by the end, he found the peace he was looking for.
Then, immediately following A Dead Dream, Songs for Psychos - part I was completed in just 3 weeks time, minus post-production. This album had a completely different feel from the first official release in that it was IDM and very consistent. This album has not yet seen an official release due to a need to further explore the genre. As a result of further exploration, Sam has earned 3 spots on an Ambient/IDM/Drone compilation called, Ghosts of the Dial. He also gained a spot on one of Webbed Hand Records's compilations and is looking forward to a netrelease (pre-official release) of Songs for Psychos - part I with them.
After many hours of deep thought, Songs for Psychos - part I, will be a spoonPhase release. This album should open lots of sleepy eyes and show them the lovely yet sad world, day by day, piece by piece.
Efforts are continuously being made to find a label to call home. They are also heavily focused on the production of several different albums.
So... from me... stick around and enjoy the love and hatred as it is almost literally, spoon-fed to a mostly close-minded world. We are in a spoonPhase.
