| "Split infinitive" is an English grammar concept. It is an infinitive with a modifier between the "to" and the "verb". An example would be, "to boldly go". It is no longer considered incorrect grammar, but most writers avoid using it where possible. "Splitinfinity" is the title of the first book in a series about alternate, yet parallel universes of technology and magic by Piers Anthony. "SPLIT":1 a:"To break or cause to break forcibly into parts, especially with the grain or into halves." b: "divide into parts; especially equal shares" 2: "remove or be removed by breaking, separating or dividing." 3a: "separate especially through discord." b: "quarrel or cease association." 4: "leave especially suddenly." 5: "very painful; acute. 1: "act or result of splitting." 2: "separation into parties; schism." 3: "athletic feat of leaping in the air or sitting down with the legs at right ankles to the body in front and behind, or at the sides with the trunk facing forwards." "INFINITY": 1: "being infinite." 2: infinite number or extent." 3: "infinite distance." 4: "infinite quantity." 5: "symbol is a single continual flowing line in the shape of a slightly elongated figure eight laying on its side; not two equal circles attached together." Considering the contradictory multiplicity of my lives I thought that it suited me. |
