I am Kainui.

I am the spirit of a humpback whale.  In 1843 I was brutally murdered by an American whaling ship crew near Lahaina, Maui.  They targeted my child.  I rose from the depths, coming between my child and the harpoon.  I died a senseless, painful death.  My wife was a widow, my child an orphan.  All in the name of Profit.

Whales are still murdered. Japan, Norway, the Faroe Islands, and the Makah Nation kill us.  Whale families are devastated.  All in the name of "Tradition”.

Our homes and our food are polluted.  Sewage.  Mercury.  Oil.  Every poison imaginable.  All in the name of “Progress”.

I am channelling my spirit through a human.  A Native American. Descended from powerful chiefs.  Familiar with the power of visions.

Some say whales do not communicate with humans.  Not true.  It is a strong message when whales are found with mercury poisoning. It is a strong message when a whale washed up at a congressman’s home.

Whale spirits visit humans. We speak to humans in dreams and visions. We watch over humans who aid us.

The spirit of Yabis is at Neah Bay. Yabis watches over whales and protesters. The  Makah are unable to murder a whale this year. A ragtag band of protestors and the spirit of Yabis are more than a match for the Makah and the Coast Guard.

Whale spirits will watch over the Sea Shepards in the Faroe Islands. Someday we will have a world where humans do not kill whales.  Someday we will have a world where humans do not poison the oceans.  Someday whales and humans will live together in peace and friendship.
