THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

The Letters of Appreciation

I was born and raised in Laurel Fork Virginia

Hillsville was my Hometown

I went to Excelsior Grade School, then to Laurel Fork and

After that Hillsville High

I lived in this area 19 years before I left it, so all of my childhood was spent here.

I'm 59 now, and I've made many acquaintances, all of them help me identify who I am, but most of my identity comes from those I knew first, it is to them this letter goes.

Everyone that knew me while I was growing up, especially when I was going to school at excelsior and before.

This is a letter of appreciation to all those I shared my life with then.

I don’t want to get into naming friend’s or relative because I might leave some of them out.

There’s too many for this short letter, and if I did there would be those that this letter would reach too late anyway.

It’s to our fathers and mothers, friend and relatives that have already gone on because in my memories they are still timeless and precious.

Let me express in this letter the deepest appreciation I know how, to let you know the treasured memories I have while growing up here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

There are all kinds of memories from then, and now all of them are a blessing.

Now there are no bad memories, no wrongs, no adversaries, they are all just a reflection of the experiences we shared.

They rest in memory without judgement and beyond criticize or condemnation. Life blooms with their richness.

When you see my name you will know if you were part of my life and if this letter is to you.

I suppose in some sense of the word it’s to everyone living here when I grew up.

I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the memories that you gave me.

The precious years that can’t be replaced

I’ve been many places and did many things but those memories have always been a part of me.

There are some of you I never saw again after I went into the Air Force.

But the memories are still there -- even if I move beyond them they will always be, --
