Andromeda's Spiral
"Great Dane combines, in its regal apperance, dignity, strength, and elegance with great size and a powerful, well-formed, smoothly muscled body. . . . It is always a unit-the Apollo of dogs."
AKC Standard for the Great Dane
Andromeda at 10mo.
Name: Griff'ns Andromeda's Spiral
Born: 19 May 1998
Place: Pacific, MO

Andromeda is from the first official litter from her breeders, Tim and Barb Griffin, who are members of the Great Dane Club of Greater St. Louis. Her sire is Von Graff's BullWinkle and her dam is Griff'ns Nobodyduz-It-Lyk Sara G (Chewy). She has two litter mates Cooper who went Ralph and Mimi Graff and Janie who the Griffins kept. Both are showing and have done well. Apparently extreme playful mischievnous is a litter trait.
Andromeda's Pedigree
Here's a quick introduction to Drama.
The initial thing would have to be her tail. It is short and wound up and close to he rear. It is super tightly coiled; you cannot even get your finger through it. She can wag it and get it out of other things' way.
It is not genetic, but physiological. Basically it was compressed in the womb. She is very sensitive about her tail, so watch it, or she will maul you, He-He.
Her ears are uncropped because she is not a show dog. We would not do it anyways. True it looks quite regal, but what is the point, they are not hunting boar anymore?
Some of her idiosyncrasies...
Food! Food! She
loves the bed. She likes to use her menacing bark to provoke play. Her favorite fight move on Coesoig is to go under his chest, lift up his back legs, grab on to his neck and turn around in circles. She loves to sun, to have wind in her face. She gets in these moods when she cannot stand Coesoig to touch her.

She is extremely intelligent (if she were dumb I would say so).
Her "tricks:" sit. stay. down. jump. shake. wave. turning around two ways. backing up. stand.

She is dominant over any dog younger, smaller, or scared of her (this includes 99% of all dogs she meets). She is not a lap dog because she must streach out when she sleeps. We don't mind. Coesoig is PLENTY of lap dog for us. She also hates for Coesoig to touch or disturb her while sleeping. He has learned this the hard way. She is very moody and has a little ego. She hates to be embarrassed. She likes to look out the window and bark at the cats accross the street. When at the park she likes all the attention on her. She tries to act tough (though intimidates easily) and can be VERY affectionate when she wants to be.

Andromeda never has problems with her anal glands, teeth, bad breath, gas, doggy odor or loose stools. Andromeda has a beautiful coat, bright eyes and odorless stools (yes you read that right). Andromeda has been given the ability to maintain optimum canine health.

Andromeda eats BARF!! Find out why.

***The Great Dane is a wonderful (admittedly my favorite) dog breed. But they are not the easiest to own. Because of their giant size it is imperative that they are trained properly using positive reinforcment. They are also a very expensive to own because everything their size costs so much. The breed is proned to many health problems and they have specific nutritional requirements, especially as puppies. They are indoor dogs and should never be kept only outdoors. They need room to run and exercise. It is imperative when looking to purchase a Dane one does so through a reputable breeder who screens for health, conformation, and temperament. The best place to start looking for a reputable breeder is through your local breed club which can be found on the GDCA web page. There are also MANY wonderful Danes in rescues across the country that need homes. For more info. on breeders and rescues take a look at our article on the Elysian Fields page. No one should ever consider getting a dog of any kind before first doing LOTS OF RESEARCH. A dog is a family member and a lifetime commitment.***
