The King of Charlotte
Telling it like it is, live from the Queen City!
The Death of the Last Great Sitcom

Last night, I watched the series finale of my favorite TV show, "The King of Queens." In the final episode, Arthur got married, Holly returned in time to see Danny and Spence fight over her for their new roommate, and Doug and Carrie had two babies (they adopted one from China, and Carrie got pregnant with the other). And at the end of the episode, they played a montage of various clips from the show's past nine seasons, which ended with the words "Thanks for the ride" inscribed on a black screen. And it was, indeed, a great ride.

I like "How I Met Your Mother" and "Two and a Half Men," but neither show can match "King of Queens" for all-around funniness. I will continue to watch CBS on Monday nights, but I won't have the same enthusiasm that I once did knowing that Doug and Carrie awaited with a thousand laughs every week. However, it's very comforting to know that I can still watch the show in syndication. And I'm still planning to buy those blank VHS tapes so I can record the entire series from beginning to end.

The end of "The King of Queens" also marks the death of the last great sitcom. Sure, there'll be other favorite sitcoms, but they'll never top "The King of Queens." And best of all, it went out on top! So, in closing, I present the theme song in its entirety:

My eyes are getting weary, my back is getting tight
I'm sitting here in traffic on the Queensboro Bridge tonight
But I don't care, 'cause all I wanna do
Is cash my check and drive right home to you
'Cause baby, all my life I will be driving home to you

Goodbye, Doug, Carrie, Danny, Spence, Deacon, Kelly, Holly and Arthur! Thanks for the memories. And better yet, thanks for being the greatest cast on TV! There'll never be another one like you ever again!
