| Baltimore vs. Charlotte | ||||
| In 2006, I moved from Baltimore, MD to Charlotte, NC. Even though I love my new hometown, since many of my relatives live in and around the city, there's a lot of things I miss about Baltimore. Here's a breakdown of how my two hometowns stack up: | ||||
| SIGNS THAT BALTIMORE AND CHARLOTTE ARE ALIKE: 1--Both cities have NFL football teams (Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens) 2--Both cities are the largest in their respective states 3--The main interstates through both cities end in five (I-85, I-95) 4--I-77 in Charlotte is a lot like Baltimore's JFX (I-83 to outsiders): A scenic drive on an urban freeway 5--Both cities have beltways (I-485, I-695) 6--Charlotte's minor-league baseball team was once affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles 7--A lot of former Charlotte Hornets players came from Baltimore 8--A lot of Charlotteans were former Baltimoreans (such as myself) |
SIGNS THAT BALTIMORE AND CHARLOTTE ARE NOT ALIKE: 1--Baltimore does not have an NBA franchise (Charlotte has the Bobcats) 2--Charlotte does not have a major-league baseball franchise (Baltimore has the Orioles) 3--Baltimore's a seaport city; Charlotte is located a few hundred miles inland 4--No east-west interstate goes to Charlotte (I-70 ends in Baltimore) 5--Charlotte has a NASCAR track; Baltimore does not 6--Washington, DC is very close to Baltimore; no other big city is located within 90 miles of Charlotte 7--No Top-40 radio station in Baltimore 8--No Smooth Jazz station in Charlotte (but I can still listen to WSMJ online, thankfully) |
