Spike and Wolf Vs The Schmelkys |
COPW Monday Night Aggression | None |
|
It's
been a while since we last saw Spike, and even longer since he was last
involved in in-ring competition. A few weeks ago at Redemption 6, he appeared with Ryan Burns
to help his one time friend Wolf fight back the forces of Intolerable
Cruelty. Since then, he's
done the same thing. For
several weeks he has helped fight this force...helped Wolf fight this
force. Still
there is one question that falls on everyone's mind...why?
Why would Spike help a man who once kidnapped his fiancée and
held her at gunpoint? Why
would Spike be able to step into a ring let alone the same time zone as
this man and not want to kill him?
Well, that will remain to go unanswered.
Since Spike returned, through run-ins and even as a special guest
referee, no one has heard from him.
This week, Spike steps into the ring as an active competitor for
the first time since we saw him defeat Ted Hurd at Redemption 5.
And as if the already unanswered questions weren't enough, his
tag team partner for this week...Wolf.
I know what you're thinking...why? Well even I can't answer that, I'm just the narrator. So
before we go on to see what the SCCW Hall of Famer is doing...let's take
a little trip down memory lane. As far as Spike's career goes, it's a long and winding road,
so I'll just give you the cliff notes.
Tag team wrestling was no foreign concept to Spike; in fact his
first title in a UWP ring was SCCW tag gold along with Y2RR.
So when the opportunity presented itself to team with an up and
coming, dare I use the word "Superstar", it was taken.
Spike and Wolf, became High Impact, the force that drove
Murderous Intent from UWP rings and captured tag team gold.
As all
good things do, this run ended, but unusually, the team didn't.
They remained close friends and each shared individual glory.
Spike appeared to hit his peak winning 3 Provincial championships
while Wolf was still climbing...and quickly.
But then the unthinkable happened.
Wolf shook hands with the Devil himself Mike Austin.
Wolf turned on Spike viciously.
The one time best friends had been torn apart by Wolfs desire to
get to the top. This desire
paid off with him winning the main title, but that's another story.
The two ended their feud in a 60-minute iron man match, then with
the closing of SCCW, they went their separate ways leaving the fans
wondering if anything had been resolved and if they would ever been seen
as partners again. Well it
turns out that they will be. High
Impact is once more...but for how long remains unseen.
And Spikes reasoning as to why he can trust this man...well that
also remains a mystery, one that only Spike himself can answer. The scene opens in the home of Spike. The sun is beaming through the large panes of glass taking the chill off the spring morning. Jane, his fiancée is sitting in the living room of the house, curled up in an easy chair with a steaming cup of coffee clutched in her hands. Sitting opposite her is Spikes sister, Sarah. They turn to face the door as they hear footsteps on the stairs. Spike walks in through the door, rubbing at his face. Jane
- It's about time you got up...you call this training? Sarah
- Yeah, isn't it about time you hit the gym? Spike
- I'm getting around to it. Besides, it's too early for you 2 to start ganging up on me,
so shut up. Sarah
- Shut up? Is that the best
you can manage? Where's the
wit? Spike
- Still in bed. You trying
being witty when you haven't had any coffee. Sarah
- Excuses, excuses. Spike
- Anyway, what is this, an intervention?
Shouldn't you both be at work? Jane
- No, because if you listened, I booked this day off as holiday and
Sarah is off for the next week. So
she's coming with me to go shopping later. Spike
- Jesus, I better hide the credit cards. Jane
- Some of us have to have hobbies, we can't all lie around vegetating
all day. Spike
- Why not it's always worked for me. Sarah
- Ever heard of sarcasm. Spike
- Ever heard of coffee? Jane
- I'll go get you one. Spike
- Thanks Jane. Jane
stands to go and get Spike a cup of coffee.
As soon as she leaves the room, Sarah starts talking to Spike in
a hushed voice Sarah
- She's taking this well Spike
- What? Sarah
- You teaming up with the man that kidnapped her.
How did you explain that one? Spike
- I kind of haven't Sarah
- You haven't told her?! Spike
- No, I told her, I just didn't explain my reasoning. Sarah
- Well you better start, she deserves to know what you're thinking Just
as she finishes talking Jane walks back in and hands Spike the mug of
coffee Jane
- It's okay, I know what you two were talking about, and I was expecting
it as soon as I left the room. And
don't worry, I don't want an explanation from you.
If it's something you feel you need to do, then you do it. Spike
- You have no idea how relieved I am to hear you say that.
I don't think I could explain it.
I mean since we last fought each other, Wolf and I have had no
contact. Sarah
- So it's not about helping Wolf? Spike
- Kind of. I can't stand
seeing people like Intolerable Cruelty trying to take over.
Wolf just happened to be standing against them.
I'm not going to lie and say that Wolf and I are fine and that
all is forgotten. It's
pretty much never going to be forgotten. All that can be done is that we move forward.
Over the last few weeks, I've heard a lot about High Impact
reforming. Well, yes we
are, but at the same time no were not.
We aren't the same people we were then.
He's changed, and changed again, and then changed some more.
He seems to be a different man from the man that attacked me, but
he also still has the passion and determination that lead to him
attacking me in the first place. Jane
- So what makes you think this won't be a repeat of last time and he
turns on you and joins Intolerable Cruelty. Spike
- I don't know. All I know
for certain is that he had started fighting them before I showed up. Sarah
- That still only makes 2 of you and 3 of them.
Since Ryan no showed and Jay had to leave, that leaves you 2 on
the bad end of the deal. Spike
- Well Kirsta, I know I can take. She's
never got the best of me and that's bound to be annoying for her.
I've seen the likes of Phoenix before, thinking he's all
'Hollywood'. The over the
top villain. And Trey, well
at first I thought he was just the lackey, but he's impressive.
It's a tight group and one that will be hard to fight, but not
impossible. As for the
odds, well from past experience in times like this, I can see them
evening themselves out soon. Sarah
- What do you mean by that? Who have you been talking to? Spike
- No-one, I just mean that Intolerable Cruelty will be pissing a lot of
people off. It only takes
one or two people to stand against them then others will rally around
them...I hope. Jane
- So what about this week? How will you cope? Spike
- Well physically, I'm fine. As you know, I've still been training since my match with
Hurd, so that won't be a problem. But
mentally, it'll be weird. Looking
at Wolf as my partner and turning to him for help will be strange.
He's not the man that first caught my attention in the Bunkhouse
Brawl all those years ago. I'm going to have to start building up a trust between us all
over again. But what makes
it worse is that we're facing a team who have apparently teamed together
for years. Jane
- What makes you say that? Spike
- Their names are Ingee and Shengee Shmelky.
So I'm assuming their brothers.
And from their appearance, they are legitimate brothers not like
some of the farces they try to con you with on TV. Sarah
- Hey, Billy and Bart could've been brothers! Spike
- You just keep telling yourself that. Jane
- Who are they then? Sarah
- They were two wrestlers who were cowboys, man they rocked! Jane
- The Shmelkys I mean, I've never heard of them. Spike
- Neither had I till I found out I was facing them.
Get this they're managed by Adam West.
How cool is that? Batman
as your manager! How could
you lose with him on your side? Jane
- You know Batman was a fictional character don't you? Spike
- He still kicked ass. Anyway, apparently they've won tag titles in the past so
they're appearance might be deceptive. Jane
- Why, what do they look like? Spike
- Let's just say they don't look like the conventional sort of
wrestlers. Sarah
- Neither do you tubby. Spike
- Hey, your words hurt like fists. Sarah
- I'm only joking...kind of Spike
- I may not be in the best condition, but I'm ring worthy.
I'm not ruling anyone out of this one though.
The Shmelkys may look like twigs compared to Wolf, but let's face
it most people do. Wolf and
I have got a lot to overcome in this one if we're going to win, or even
have a chance of winning. Saying
that, the more I learn about Ingee and Shengee, the more I want to
discredit them. But I learnt a long time ago not to discredit anyone before
you know what they're capable of first hand.
If Wolf and I are to have any chance of standing up to
Intolerable Cruelty, then we need to start on Monday.
It'll be a long path back to where we once were... Sarah
- Oh screw this. Do we need
to sit here and listen to another monologue from this man or can we go
shopping now? Spike
- Hey. What's that supposed
to mean? Sarah
- Well, you tend to ramble a little. Spike
turns to Jane looking for some backup in the argument, but doesn't find
it. Jane
- Sorry, but it's true, you do tend to go off on a tangent sometimes and
well, you do ramble. And
mutter to yourself. So
c’mon Sarah, let's go spend all of his money. Spike
- I might talk a lot and sometimes it might not be completely relevant,
and sometimes I might talk off the subject.
Actually, I never talk off the subject, I'm completely to the
point, I'm stoic. I never
mutter and I most certainly do not ramble. Spike
looks up from his mug of coffee as Jane is opening the front door Jane
- See...you're rambling again. See
you later. Before
Spike can protest again the door is shut and the ladies have gone.
Spike sums up the conversation with them the only way a man can
understand it. With one
word that means so much. Spike
- Women. |
