    Vs Kirsta Lewis

SCCW Sunday Night Slam None

The scene opens to find Spike, well I'm not quite sure where it is.  It's kind of dark, but not pitch black, more of a dull lighting.  There is no-one else about, just Spike.  The furniture in the room is minimal, just a chair and a table.  He is wearing a black sleeveless shirt with a phoenix on the front of it.  He has black denim jeans and a shirt tied around his waist.  Without really looking at the camera, Spike begins to speak.

Spike: It's one of those situations.

There is a moment of silence and then Spike speaks again.

Spike: It's one of those times when you don't know who is right.  A time like this hasn't arisen for me since my second match in SCCW.  I had to fight a woman named Trish Stratus.  She was an accomplished wrestler, a numerous times champion in SCCW, but still people gave you that look.  Any man that's fought a woman before will know what I'm talking about.  The look that people give to say "You should be ashamed of yourself wrestling women, being ready to hit a woman".  I haven't had that look in over a year, and the other day, I was just leaving the gym, and I got that look again.

Personally, I think that that look is all just bullshit.  Sure people know that I am going to fight a woman and that I am most likely going to hurt her, but it is by her choosing.  That argument never works on the people that are so intent on bringing disturbances to our profession.  They'd say, "What other time would it be okay for a man to hit a woman like that?  Never, that's when."  But still, I just can't bring myself to care.  I don't care when it is acceptable and when it isn't.  All I care about is that this week, I have another match, and a new opponent, and it just happens to be that she is a woman.  She has all the facts in front of her.  The facts that state that women never do well when they compete with men, the facts that state that women tend to wrestle in their own divisions, but she doesn't care, so why should I?

The stereotype of a female wrestler is being blown out of the mould lately.  Kirsta Lewis is one of the reasons for that.  She knows what she is letting herself in for, she knows that she is more likely to be injured than a man, but that isn't stopping her from competing.  In fact, she's doing more than competing, she's winning matches, and then going one step further by winning titles.  I have nothing but respect for Kirsta Lewis.  She wants to be treated like an equal, so I will treat her like an equal.  When I step into the ring with her, it'll be just like every other time I step into the ring.  Gender doesn't count, it's one person against another, first person to win.  That never changes.

Kirsta, don't think that my respect for you will stop me from beating you.  Don't mistake respect for pity.  When I do see you lying there, a broken shell of the woman that first stepped into the ring, there will be no second chance for you, just as there wouldn't be for anyone else.  There will be no hesitation on my part, that I can guarantee.  The main reason for that, I can't let you get the upper hand, not even for a second.  I've seen what your capable of in the ring, and you've got a shiny gold name plate to prove it.  Congratulations on becoming the Young Guns champion, it's something I've never done, but I imagine it was a good feeling.  You see, when I started in SCCW, I had no 'crash-course for beginners title' to go after.  I was thrown in at the deep end.  That's the way I prefer it though.  In your case, you're already a champ, but will complacency kick in?  Will you be content to sit there and compete for just that title?  Maybe, because it's the one that started you off.  But being thrown in at the deep end is different.  It makes you learn to swim faster.  If you don't, you'll drown and never be seen again.  I learnt quickly and now look at me, the only member of the Hall of Fame.

There is something that puzzles me about you though Kirsta.  BBK and Dominant Species?  How naive are you to believe that they were trustworthy.  SCCW is a better place now that they have left.  It was just a matter of time before they got what they wanted out of you and kicked you to he curb.  They were bad news Kirsta, so whether I like you or hate you, believe me when I say, you are better off without them.

I caught what you had to say the other day, about me remaining silent so far and how it is annoying you.  It seems to be working then.  Me staying quiet wasn't about thinking that you were unworthy or being in a match with you, no it was something else.  Me staying quiet has wound you up.  It's got underneath your skin.  You've probably got all the insecurities that females wrestling males have.  "Is he not saying anything because he thinks he'll walk all over me?", "Or is it because he doesn't know what to say to a woman that he is about to fight?".  Well whatever my reasons for my silence, they are doing exactly what they were supposed to do.  They are agitating you.  Getting you so worked up and angry that your focus is slipping.  You're losing your concentration, and when you're in the ring with me, one slip is all I need for the match to be over.  You know I'm not lying, deep down, you know.

I wanted something more than this match was offering.  Last week, Wolf, my former friend and tag team partner beat me, so I am more than a little pissed off at the moment.  So I wanted more than a match with no history, more than just another fight.  I wanted a real fight.  One with anger behind it, my silence, got you angry enough to get me that.  I wanted you to come at me with real anger and hatred, so I could retaliate with just cause.  Now I can.  Make no mistake about it Kirsta, I'm not underestimating you, I'm not degrading you, I'm just ready to beat you.

Just then Spike hears the rattle of a key in a lock.  He turns to the door of the room and walks over to it, leaving through it.  Ahh, now I know where we are, it's Spike's house.  Not quite sure what room that was, but now he's on the landing, making his way down the steep staircase.  The front door opens and his girlfriend Jane stumbles in.  No, she's not drunk, she's just being doing what every woman loves to do, shopping, so her arms are full of shopping bags.  Spike takes a few off her and kisses her to greet her.

Jane: Thanks.  Shopping is hard work.

Spike: Then why do you insist on doing it so frequently?

Jane: Because.

Spike: And why can women be the only ones to get away with an answer like "Because".

Jane: Because.

Spike smiles at her as they make their way into the kitchen.  They dump all the bags on the floor and on the table.  Jane walks over to the side units and fills the kettle with water, starting it to boil.  She turns to back to face Spike.

Jane: So what have you been doing this morning?

Spike: Getting ready for my match this week.

Jane: The one with that woman, Kirsta?

Spike: Yeah, there's no reason to say her name with such contempt, you don't even know her.

Jane: But I've seen her, and that's reason enough for me not to want you to get in the ring with her.

Spike smiles knowingly.

Spike: Do you really think I could be attracted to a woman that I am about to be in a knock down drag out fight with?

Jane: You never know.

Spike: Trust me, I only have eyes for you.  Now let's unpack all this stuff.

Jane: Ok.

Spike and Jane both start to unpack all the shopping, both food and clothes as the scene fades slowly to black.
