"In every competition since the dawning of time, some have always excelled. They exceed expectations and bypass the competition, leaving the weak in their wake. These men take what they want, when they want to and back down from no-one." triple threat The scene opens to find Spike standing in the living room of his house, dialing a number on his mobile phone. He presses the call button and holds the phone to his ear as it starts to ring. He walks over to the window on the front of the house and looks through it. It's nearly midday and the sun is starting to melt the early ice off the cars in the street. A few kids that must have been on a break at school are loitering on the corner of the road, getting their fix of nicotine before heading back to school. The other end of the line clicks and Spike hears a faint voice answer. Voice: Hello? Spike: Hi Mom, it's only me, so you can stop putting the posh voice on. Mother: What posh voice? Spike: The one you always put on when you answer the phone, then you speak normally when you know who it is. Anyway, is Dad there? I wanted to wish him a happy birthday. Mother: They're okay. As good as you can be out our age. Your Dads out at the minute, so I'll have to tell him you called. He'll probably phone you back when he gets in. Spike grins to himself. Spike: Now you know that's a lie. He never makes long distance phone calls in England, so I know he won't phone me here in Canada. Mother: That's true. He never will change, but what do you expect from an old man? How's your sister? Spike: She's ok, I haven't spoken to her in a couple of weeks so I was going to give a ring later. She was doing fine last time I spoke to her. She probably phone you sometime this week anyway, it is Dads birthday after all. Mother: Oh yes, of course she will. So what 'av you got planned for the week? Spike: Well, not much really. Work is taking up a lot of my time at the moment. Mother: I don't know why you insist on calling that work. It's about time you gave it up isn't it? Spike: We've been over this Mom, too many times to count. I call it work, because it is. But it's more than that. It's part of who I am. You knew that I was serious about doing this when I left home and came here. You supported my decision, whether you agreed with it or not, so do you really want me to give it up now? Mother: I suppose. So when do you plan on giving it up? It's not like you'll be doing this when you're 65 is it? Spike: I don't know Mom, I'm not sure. I won't give it up until I've done everything that I want to do. And just to let you know, some people are still in the professional wrestling business until they're 65. I mean Ric Flair is still going and he's gotta be heading for that age. Mother: Ric Flair?! He's still going? I remember having to watch that with you when you used to watch wrestling on a Saturday afternoon. That's got to be at least fifteen years ago. Spike: Probably. I know what you're trying to say anyway. You think that if I go on much longer I'll get hurt. aren't you? Mother: Can you blame me? That's what mothers are for. Spike: Trust me Mom, I've been doing this long enough now to know how to look after myself. Mother: I suppose. Spike: Well, tell Dad I phoned, and if he hasn't called me by tomorrow night, I'll ring him back. Ok? Mother: Ok Sean. I'll speak to you soon. Bye. Spike: Bye Mom. Spike hangs up the phone and tosses it onto the chair as he walks past it. He smiles to himself at the fact that even after all these years, his mother still thinks of him as the little boy that used to wrestle with his dad after watching it on the TV. He walks over to the opposite side of the room and picks up a glass off the table, taking a quick drink from it. He carries on walking and leaves the room, walking down the hall and into a room on the left, his kitchen. He opens the fridge door and takes out a small package, taking a few seconds to read the writing on it before taking it over to the microwave. He opens the microwave up and puts the food in, turning the timer. He turns around and sits down at the small, round wooden table in the middle of the kitchen. He puts his feet up on a chair opposite him and starts to talk. Spike: I guess this is a good a time as any to talk about the coming week. One of the biggest matches in SCCW history. Me, the True Franchise versus The Natural Born Killer Vs The Extreme Warrior. Does it get any bigger than that? I don't think so. Three of the biggest names to walk into an SCCW ring all face off at the same time. Some are even calling it a grudge match. From my recollection, NBk and Warrior haven't really had any differences in the past, so the only grudges are towards me, and that's fine. Warrior, when we fought, we blew the roof off the arena. And NBK, the same happened when me and you faced each other, so just imagine the possibilities of this one. I'll start off with you Warrior. I can see it now, the things you'll say, the matches you'll bring up, our tag team history. How you and Austin won the tag titles from me and that backstabbing son-of-a-bitch Wolf. Or maybe you'll bring up the match we had when a shot at the Simcoe County Heavyweight title was on the line. Oh, wait a minute, you lost that one, so you'll probably use that selective memory thing you do so well and omit that from the records. Maybe you'll talk about how whenever you're in a tag team, your partner leaves. Not just leaves you, but leaves SCCW all together. Mike left, for a long time. So did Caleb, in fact, Caleb still hasn't come back. I know you have a knack for talking for a long time without taking a breath, so maybe you bored them into a coma. Yeah, that's it, Mike woke up from his so he came back, so in about 3 months, Caleb will come back. Am I right? There's no doubt that you have talent Warrior, hell you're part of Team NWA, the unstoppable force. Remind me again, when are you supposed to be taking over SCCW? 'Cause I seem to remember you saying you'd do it a few months back and then again a few months after that. So if you could just let me know when you're going to start, it'd be appreciated. You're probably sitting in your NWA mansion now, watching this back, trying to make up witty remarks about things I say. Do your worst Warrior. I've had a lot on my mind lately, I haven't been sleeping well, so I could do with one of your promotional videos to put me to sleep. I bet you've been waiting for a rematch with me ever since I cost you the only shot you've had at the heavyweight title. You've been letting all the contempt you hold for me build up and eat away at you. I can't wait 'till I get you in the ring and piss all over the fire you've got inside you. While I think the hatred we have is mutual I want you to know that I do respect what you can do. You've become quite an established star in SCCW. But there is one thing I don't agree with. The backstabbing way you turned on SCCW for team NWA. You joined them, not giving a damn about SCCW, only looking out for your best interests. So you have no honour, you have no integrity. You're the type of thing that is wrong with wrestling today. Too much of all this backstage politics bullshit, and ten man, super team allegiances and not enough of proving yourself in the ring. This is your chance Warrior. Prove to me that you can still do it on your own. Prove to me that if you weren't a part of that shit for brains team NWA, you'd still be where you are today. I'm looking forward to this week Warrior. It's going to be one more battle in the war that is ongoing between us. You've won some, I've won some, every time we meet it's different, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this one turns out. The microwave 'pings' and Spike stands up from the chair. He walks over to the microwave and opens the door, taking a fork out of the drawer just to his right. He stirs the food slightly and puts it back in, turning the timer again. He turns round, and sits on the counter by the microwave. He starts to speak again. Spike: Then there is you NBK. What can I say about you that I've never said before? Not much really. With the amount of times we've faced off against each other now, we're forming our own little war as well. What was it last time? Did I win? Did you? Wait a minute, we drew didn't we? We fought to a stalemate. Not many people can brag about doing that with me. Last time we met, I questioned whether you needed Carlos with you. I was glad to see that you did the right thing, you proved that you can go out there and compete without him kissing your ass for you. The way I think about you is very similar to how I think of Extreme Warrior. I may hold contempt for you, and you may for me, but I still respect you. I know that you are one hell of an athlete, and you still have integrity. In my eyes, you're more of a competitor than Warrior is. You fight where it is needed, in the ring, not through sneak attacks and gang beatings. Last time we met, you were one second away from losing to me. If I was faster, I could've gotten in the ring, I couldn't ended my count-out and I would've won, but I wasn't. I won't dwell on wasted chances or what I could've done differently, 'cause in all honesty, what good does it do? None whatsoever. I wasn't that bit quicker, because I'd been in a hell of a match with you. Many people would've carried on that fight after the final bell. I didn't, because it's not my style, and now I know it's no yours either. We do have differences, there's not denying that, but we will settle them the way things were meant to be settled in wrestling. By getting in the ring with each other and working out our differences. In my opinion, I'll never see eye to eye with NBK. That's not a bad thing. Some people just don't get along. Some have a fantastic chemistry in the ring as a team, but we have the polar opposite. We put on great shows, but only when we face each other. There is a fire between us NBK, and not just a little flame, it's a roaring inferno. We've got a heated past, and no doubt about it, we'll have a heated future. There is one thing that really bugs me about you though, Bret. That saying you always manage to throw in. The one about not being able to stop evolution. I can't argue with you there. Evolution cannot be stopped, but sorry to crush your 'catchphrase' NBK but you're not the product of Evolution, the product of in-breeding. Last week, I said that my match with Damion was a warm up for the things to come. I know that there are big things ahead of me in 2005. For most, this match would be the biggest thing they'd do all year. But not me. I know that this Sunday is a real toss up, it could go any way. I could win it, but then again, so could Warrior, or NBK, no-one can really tell. All I know is that win or lose this week, I am going on to compete in one of those big events. My future is growing closer. My destiny. The most accomplished wrestler in SCCW history is going to do what no-one has ever done before, not Midnight Felon, not Warrior, not NBK, I'm going to bring the first piece of NeWA gold to the SCCW. And not just any gold. The NeWA World heavyweight title. While I will be ready for you Warrior and NBK, just know that my one eye will be constantly on that future, until I fulfill it. See you Sunday guys. Spike gets down off the counter just as the microwave pings again and the scene fades to black. |
