Vs NBK

Sloppy Joe, NBK

"In every competition since the dawning of time, some have always excelled.  They exceed expectations and bypass the competition, leaving the weak in their wake.  These men take what they want, when they want to and back down from no-one."

NBK...this could get Lethal

The scene opens to find Spike sitting in a black leather arm chair.  Just to his right is a matching three seater settee.  His girlfriend Jane is sat at the far end, with her legs resting up and spread across the other two seats of it.  She is wearing a white sweatshirt and black jeans, with her hair tied up and away from his face.  Spike is wearing blue jeans and a black t-shirt.  His face shows signs of a few days stubble and his hair is starting to grow back from when he had it shaved off.  He is midway through a sentence, so it's apparent that they're half way through a conversation.

Spike: People still keep asking me the same question though.  Since Sunday, numerous people have asked me that after seeing Sloppys performance in the ring, can we still win the titles.

Jane: Well, what do you think, and remember, you're talking to me here, not some interviewer who you barley know.

Spike: In all seriousness, Yes, I believe we still CAN win it.  It's obvious that Sloppys in-ring ability has deteriorated since his prime days, but with all the injuries the guy has, it's a miracle he's still as good as he is.  Don't think for one second though that I am putting him down or saying that I don't think he can 'hack it'.  I know that with him at seventy percent, and me at one hundred percent, we can still go through any tag team that SCCW could offer up to us.  Even at the level he is at currently, he's still one of the top stars in this company.  In fact, seeing the pain and anguish that he worked through the other day in our match made me respect him even more.  He's going against doctors orders to compete against some dangerous competition, and he still gave it his all.  Sure I won the match for us, but he had my back the entire time, and he more than carried his half of the team.

Jane: Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself of that.

Spike: Well that's not the way it should sound.  I don't need to TRY to convince myself of it, 'cause I know for a fact that while he can, he's going to give it his all, and I am too.  So whatever team we have to face in the next round, we'll be ready for it.  Trust me, you don't know him like I do, he's a true champion all the way, title or no title.

Jane: Okay, I believe you.  But what if you're less than one hundred percent for your next round match?

Spike: What do you mean?  I'll be fine.  It's only the week after this one.  Nothing will happen before then.

Jane: Don't be too sure Sean.  Remember, it is NBK that you're facing this week.  Don't you remember the last time you guys fought each other?

Spike: Yeah I do, I won, he lost.  He got locked inside a dumpster and I took the title that he called his.  I'm sure he remembers that as well.

Jane: Exactly, maybe he remembers it a little too well.  I mean, look at it this way, where do you rank that title in your list of accomplishments?

Spike: Well, you can't compare it to the Heavyweight title, or the tag titles or the..

Jane: Exactly, that title didn't mean that much to you, it was just a filler of sorts until you got back into the title hunt for the bigger titles.  It was his world back then.  He prided himself on being the Lethal Champion, and you took it away from him, that's not something you forget or even forgive in a hurry.

Spike: I know what you're saying, but a title is still a title.  I know it meant a lot to him, it did to me as well, just not as much as some of the others I've held.  I don't disregard that belt, I was the last ever champion, hell I retired that belt.

Jane: But you know as well as I do that you never had to defend that title.  He's going to jump all over that fact.

Spike: Let him, where will get him.  Absolutely nowhere.  I never lost that belt, which is more than I can say about him.  I'm going to throw that back in his face every chance I get, you know why?  Because he'd do exactly the same thing.

Jane: But just remember that this match is more than just a normal match to him.  It's revenge.  He's still bitter, he's still angry and he will be until he gets one up on you.

Spike: You're right, he's probably sitting in his limo right now, chatting away to that little prick Carlos, plotting his revenge against me.  I don't think he needs Carlos to manage him really, I mean NBK speaks for himself.  The only reason Carlos is there is to keep reassuring NBK, and telling him that he is great and wonderful and magnificent, just in case his ego deflates a little.

Jane: I know you have a habit of ignoring me, and you'll probably go out there and just treat this like a normal match, but please, for my sake, just think about what I've said.

Spike: Okay, I will, for you.

Jane: Good, well, I'd better get going if I'm going to make it before the shops close.  Those Christmas presents won't buy themselves.

Jane stands from the settee and walks over to the door, picking up a small brown leather coat from off the arm of a chair.  She puts the coat on and heads for the door.  She hears Spike talking and turns to listen to him.

Spike: I'll tell you what.  Tomorrow night, I'll take you out for a nice meal to make up for all the stress you're under.  How does that sound?

Jane: Ooohh, where are we going?

Spike: The Barbeque pit, where else?

Jane rolls here eyes and smiles at Spike.

Jane: Should've known.  See you later.

The two share a little laugh before she turns and walks out of the room.  After a few moments, you can here the sound of the front door slamming shut and the ignition on a car starting.  Spike stands and walks over to the window to see he reversing out of the driveway.  She reverses out onto the main road and then drives down the street, turning at the bottom, out of Spikes line of view.  He turns away from the window and faces directly back into the room.  He looks around for a moment and then begins to speak.

Spike: NBK, I know you're not as naive as some may think you to be.  I know you're eagerly awaiting this match, but let me tell you, it won't be easy.  You found out first hand that I can back up what I say when I locked you inside a dumpster and took away your title.  I'm waiting for all the excuses to come out for last time.  "The lights were in my eyes", "I've never fought in that type of match before", "My trunks were too tight and they cut of the circulation to my brain so I couldn't think straight".  Save your breath NBK, no-one cares why you lost last time.

I've changed since the last time we met, I've improved, and I know you have as well.  This match is bigger than Sunday Night Slams, and the entire locker room knows it.  This match is one of epic proportions.  There is one thing that bugs me about you though NBK.  How can you call yourself the very best that SCCW has to offer?  Where is your Heavyweight title reign?  Do you have a title belt now?  No you don't.  But being the best isn't just about championships and awards, and you know that.  It's about knowing that your the best and taking on all challenges.  I've been doing that week in and week out for over a year.  I know that I am the best, and one day soon, I will have championship gold around my waist again.

NBK, I know you're a hell of a challenge, and I know you're still going to be bitter about the last time, but don't dwell on the past, all that will give you is the same image, the dumpster lid slamming down, cutting of your light, trapping you, with the rest of the garbage.  None of this psychological stuff will work on you NBK, you're too sharp for that, but it's just fun reminding you of the time you gave it your all and came up short.  That's got to be a real dent in your egomaniacal exterior.  We never have gotten along, and I doubt very much that we ever will, but at this moment in time, you've never beaten me.  So it's not me with the things to prove this week.  I know I can beat you, everyone's just waiting to see if you can bounce back from your loss all that time ago, get rid of that chip on your shoulder, and try to beat me.  I want you to  give it everything this week NBK, cause that way, if and when you come up short again, you'll only have yourself to blame it.

Spike walks away from the window as the scene fades slowly to black.
