Angelo Rivera, Rage, Wolf |
"In every competition since the dawning of time, some have always excelled. They exceed expectations and bypass the competition, leaving the weak in their wake. These men take what they want, when they want to and back down from no-one." Getting ready for the big time...again The scene opens to a shot of a Spike walking down a normal street. The sun beaming down making it an uncomfortably hot day. Despite the heat, he is wearing black denim jeans and a black t-shirt with a Puddle of Mudd print on it. He looks at his watch and then sits down on a nearby bench. He looks around at his surroundings and then begins to talk. Spike: Angelo, seeing you talk earlier this week, and meeting up with my old friends, it all got me thinking. About my past, my childhood, where I went wrong. Well, I'm not going to waste your time by giving you a history lesson about where I grew up or what I did in high-school, because none of that is really important. These streets around here, I may have grown up here, but they were never really my home. I've never really had a home since I was pulled out of my life back in England all those years ago. But I made something out of myself nonetheless. I became someone. I'm happy with how my life has turned out, more or less anyway. So when I think about where I went wrong, what I could've done differently, that's where it ends, just thinking about it. I wouldn't actually change a single thing. I may not be a millionaire and I may not have everything I want, but I have everything I need. Soon though, I will get something else, that I both need and want, the Simcoe County Heavyweight title. You and me Angelo, one-on-one, we're going to tear the house down. I've said it before and I have no problem saying it again, you're a hell of a wrestler. I can't wait 'till we eventually lock horns. I pride myself on making the most of my chances. I take on all comers, I'm not afraid of anyone, including you. I don't back down and I do what needs to be done. I don't try to win people over with playing up to them, I don't really care about anything outside of that ring. For the twenty minutes or so that I am in the ring, I'm completely different. I do what I have to to win, that will never change. Angelo, you talk a good game, so do I, but soon, very soon, we'll find out who actually has the better game. I know that I can back up my words, and I've got a feeling that you can as well, so this will definitely be a memorable encounter, a match for the ages, I can hardly wait. Then there is your partner in all of this, Rage. Wow Rage, you're an angry young man aren't you. Who knew all those years of being a nobody would make you this angry. I have to ask, 'the offspring of xtremity', where'd you come up with that? I've heard 5 year olds pretending to be wrestlers that have come up with better catchphrases than that. The only thing you're the offspring of is a gorilla and a donkey. I don't even want to hear anymore stories about you 'pounding' midgets, especially five at a time. What you do in your own time is entirely up to you, so lets keep it that way, okay? I don't know why you have such a high opinion of yourself. You think you're more important than any God, well who'd pray to you, homeless people? Rage, you claim that we don't know anything about you, but we know more than you'd think. You see, a while ago, when you first broke onto the scene here in SCCW, I thought you were going to be just another one of those guys. One of those that uses their strength and size to impose and intimidate. Someone who that, once they had tasted their first defeat, would go running off somewhere else to try the whole routine over again. I guess I was wrong, on some things anyway. You didn't go running, you stuck around, and got another defeat, and another. The only thing about you that is impressive is your size. You should keep trying to intimidate and impose with your size, 'cause god knows you can't do it with your wrestling skills. You're not going anywhere fast Rage, just lingering in obscurity. I was there once, then I got an opportunity, much like the ones you've had. The only difference is that I took those opportunities, I took the ball, and I ran with it. What did you do, you fumbled and got stopped dead in your tracks. I'm sure you'll get another chance soon Rage, who knows, you might get a pinfall this week. Then again, when was the last time you saw a miracle in the wrestling ring. The only pinfall you might be a part of is when you get your shoulder pinned to the mat after getting put down with either the Impaler of the Wolf's Bite. Spike looks back at his watch and then stands up. Spike: I'd love to stay and talk more about how High Impact will not be beaten this week, but I've got places to be. See you both on Sunday. Spike starts to walk down the street, crossing over to get to the shaded part of the pavement. After a few more minutes, he gets to a fairly small building on the corner, with a notice board outside. He looks at the notice board quickly to see a list of specials writeen down and prices next to them. He glances up at the sign above the door which reads 'Julia's Coffee'. He shakes his head at the lack of originality in the name and reaches for the door. He opens the door and walks inside, looking around for Jane. He sees her sitting down at a table in the far corner of the room, sipping at a cup of coffee. He walks over to her and she stands to greet him. Jane: Hello Sean, I wasn't sure if you'd actually call me. Spike: Of course I was going to. What made you want to meet me here? Jane: I work here. It's not great, but it's a living. I wanted to meet you, but I was working all week, so I thought we could just talk while I was on my break. Spike: That's fine. They both sit down and continue to talk. Jane: I'm still surprised you called me. Spike: Did you really think that I'd just take off and not bother calling? Jane: Why not, you did it before, you could just as easily do it again. Spike: That's why you still resent me after all this time isn't it. You think that I just didn't care enough about my life here, so I just 'took off'. I'm right, aren't I? Jane: Yes, if you really cared then you would've stayed. Spike: I couldn't stay, joining the SCCW was my chance, surely you can understand that. People pick up and move all the time to fit in with their jobs, why can't you understand that that's all it was. I had to make a tough choice and yeah, not everyone would like it, but it's something I had to do. If I'd stayed the way I was going then we both know that my career wouldn't have lasted long. Working in crappy promotions with assholes as bosses, risking my life just to try to draw in a bigger crowd for them. I know that I've been in the big promotions before, I had my shot with them, but they're all the same. I wanted something different, I wanted to work the independent circuit, but I couldn't afford to do it at the risk of my health. So SCCW gave me a way out of it. They don't ask for us to put our bodies and careers on the line just to entertain the fans, we just compete. Spike pauses a moment and then continues. Spike: I don't take the risks that I used to, not as much anyway. I'm not going to lie, the danger of being seriously hurt is still there, but nowhere near as high as if I was in any other promotion. I know what reason you gave me when I asked you to move before, it was about leaving family and friends behind. But I also know that you didn't want to see me get hurt. Well, the risk of that is still there, but not as much. Your parents have moved away now, I remember you telling me that the other day, they went to that beach house in California. Your friends, our friends, they all have their own lives, sure you see them, but not that often really. Look around here, do you really want to be stuck in a coffee shop for the rest of your life? Jane: Do you actually have a point or are you just seeing how much you can insult me before I leave? Spike: I guess what I'm trying to say is this. Come back to Ontario with me. Start over, get a better job, is there really anything keeping you here? Come back with me and we can carry on where we left off. Just come up with me this weekend, see the show, judge for yourself. I came back here for more reasons than just to see my old friends. I came back to make things right between me and you. C'mon, we've been apart over nine months, just come with me, please. Spike pauses as he waits for an answer from here. Jane: I don't know Sean, I'm not sure. Spike: What is there not to be sure of? Lets just give it a try. Please. Jane: Can you give me a few days to think about it? Spike: Sure, take all the time you need. I have to leave back for Ontario tonight though, but if you haven't decided by then, just give me a call. I'll be back down here in a heartbeat. They are interrupted by a middle-aged man, with thinning hair and a scruffy looking beard shouting to Jane Man: Hey! Jane! Your breaks over, get back to work. She looks back at him and he motions for her to get up as he carries on serving customers. Jane: Okay. I have to get back to work now. I'll call you. Spike: Okay. I'll speak to you soon. Spike gets up from the table and walks out of the coffee shop, leaving Jane there to ponder on her possible decision. He steps outside the door and starts to walk back down the road towards his hotel. He stops for a moment to look back through the windows of the shop and sees Jane standing slowly and walking back over to the counter. He heads back for his hotel as the scene slowly fades to black. |
