Angelo Rivera, Rage, Wolf |
"In every competition since the dawning of time, some have always excelled. They exceed expectations and bypass the competition, leaving the weak in their wake. These men take what they want, when they want to and back down from no-one." Getting ready for the big time...again The scene opens to a shot of a black Ford Mustang pulling into the car park of an old fashioned English pub. The car pulls to a stop and the headlights are switched off. The camera gets closer to the car and the drivers face slowly comes into view. The engine is still running and the radio is still playing the Break the Cycle CD that often populates Spike's CD player. Spike looks at the camera and begins to talk. Spike: Oh Angelo, what are we going to do about you? As usual, you manage to take a fact and twist it so that it benefits you. Don't you know what I mean? Let me remind you. You said that you proved me wrong last week when I couldn't beat you. But let me also remind you that you couldn't beat me. Admittedly, you beat my team, but you didn't beat ME. I'm not blaming my partners for the loss, they did their best, but against you, their best wasn't good enough and it never will be. The fact still remains though Angelo, you didn't pin me and you didn't make me submit, so who are you to cast judgments on who is better? Then, the thing that still amazes me no matter how many times I hear it. You said that you might let me win this week. To me, that sounds like back-pedaling. You're not even waiting till next week to make excuses, you've started already. Angelo, anyone that has seen you in the ring, myself included, knows that you are a true competitor, and a true competitor NEVER lets anyone win. Angelo, you're a hell of a wrestler, but everyone has a weakness. You might still be walking around here with an undefeated, unblemished record, but it won't last. The pressure will be mounting up on you soon Angelo, very soon. Can you feel it? The big match is coming, the biggest match of your SCCW career. Can you handle the pressure of such an occasion? I know I can, I've proved it before, I guess we'll just have to wait and see about you. Spike pauses for a moment as he sees some movement under a nearby streetlight. His attention shifts back to the camera and carries on speaking. Spike: This week will mark the starting of a new era in SCCW, the return of the single greatest team to ever grace a wrestling ring, the return of High Impact. In all fairness, it has been a long time since Wolf and I teamed together, but we don't need to practice greatness, we just are. At one time, High Impact ruled the roost, so to speak, we were the top dogs, the team to beat, and we will be again. Starting this week. Angelo Rivera and Rage, the first team to succumb to the new and improved High Impact. Rage, you're record here in SCCW is far from impressive, and you know that's true. As Wolf has already said, the highlight of your career has been the Young Guns title hasn't it. But that doesn't mean that the chances and the opportunities haven't been there. You have had numerous chances to get further up the metaphorical ladder of success. The TV title, the Simcoe County title. If you are so great, then who was great enough to be able to beat you in those matches. Hmmm, let me think, oh yes, of course, it was Wolf. He beat you to retain the TV title, and he beat you in the battle royal last week. It seems that Wolf is your kryptonite. What can I say Rage, why change the habit of a lifetime, this week will be no different, except for one thing. Wolf won't be the only one kicking your ass this week, I will be as well. Get ready Rage, 'cause this week you'll find out why High Impact are where we are today and why you're still lingering in nothingness. Spike reaches for the key in the ignition and turns it so that the engine cuts off. The radio goes off as well and the car is left in complete silence. Spike takes the keys out and gets out of the car. He steps onto the car-park and takes a deep breath of the cool night air, such a welcome change from the hot atmosphere of the days. Spike is wearing black denim jeans and black boots, with a white t-shirt. His hair is, well, it's gone now, so that doesn't really matter. He locks the car behind him and heads for the entrance of the pub. He walks in through the front door and into the bar area, covered with a thin cloud of smoke. He looks around and sees someone over on the far side of the bar. He walks over to them and starts to speak. Spike: Hi John, sorry I'm a bit late, traffic was a bitch. Some woman and broke down in the middle of the road, and women being women, couldn't fix it herself, so she'd got some mechanic out there blocking up half of the street. John: No problem. What do you want to drink, it's my round. Spike looks at the choice of beverages and then looks up at the barmaid. Spike: I'll have a pint of Guinness. The barmaid serves up the drinks and they walk over to the corner table where they are sitting. Spike: It's about time we all got together again. It's been too long since I last saw you all. Who else is here then? John: Well, there's me and you, obviously, and there's Claire, Daniel, Stuart and err, well Jane's here as well, I hope that's okay with you. Spike suddenly loses all expression from his face, lost in reminiscence. When Spike's parents took him out of his school and his home country, England, to move to America, these were the people that accepted him into their 'clique'. They were a close knit group of friends, but one of them became more than that. Jane was Spike's 'high-school sweetheart' and it they stayed together for a long time after that, until Spike pursued his wrestling career. While she still cared for him, she couldn't see him getting beaten and battered night in and night out, but she persevered and stuck with him. That was until Spike re-located to Ontario to join SCCW, when they went their separate ways. Spike was willing to give up all immediate ties with friends and family for his big chance, but Jane wasn't. So he went on to move to Ontario, while she stayed. Spike: Yeah, I'm fine, why wouldn't I be. We're over that now, we've both moved on. Where are they anyway? John points over to the pool table in the middle of the room. They pick up their drinks and walk over to them. After a few minutes of general re-acquaintance, they set up a game of pool between themselves. Jane, who is still yet to really to talk to Spike walks over to him and begins to speak. Jane: Hello, Sean, it's been a while hasn't it. How are you? Spike: I'm good, more or less, how about you? Jane: I'm ok. Anything new in your life? Spike: If your asking about girlfriends, then no, there isn't. Jane: I know you want to ask me the same thing, but I also know that you wouldn't so I'll save you the trouble, me neither. I see you're still sticking with the wrestling thing. Good to see that you taking off and leaving us wasn't all for nothing. Spike: Leaving us? Or do you mean leaving me? She doesn't answer so Spike continues. Spike: I'm doing what I love, so I'm happy. I can't believe you still resent me for leaving. I gave you the choice of coming with me, but you didn't want to. I respected that decision, so why couldn't you respect mine? Jane: Because, it's not that easy Sean. Spike: Ok, but can we just try not to talk about that for tonight? I don't want to ruin the night by getting into a huge fight. I'll tell you what, later this week, we'll get together, just me and you, and talk this out. The air needs to be cleared so let's just clear it. After a few seconds of thinking about it, she agrees with a small smile and the two sit down at a table just behind the pool table. The six friends all begin to catch up and talk about old times. Even though the other five still kept in close contact, they weren't as close as they used to be, so everyone had a few stories to share. After about an hour, the conversation, inevitably, turned to wrestling. Jane stayed quite for the most part of it, and Spike spoke with some reserve so as not to aggravate matters any further. Daniel: C'mon man, you've got to tell us. What's it like being out there in the ring with that many people chanting your name? Spike: Well, to start with, I'm not in the WWE and I'm not The Rock. So to be honest, I'm in a building with about five hundred fans and not all of them are partial to the way I act, so they don't all chant my name. But, it is a great feeling nonetheless. To be out there, in fierce competition, doing what I love, it's exhilarating really. I wanted to be the best I could and show everyone that I had talent in the ring. I was sick of winning meaningless 'World' titles in crappy companies, so as you all know, I joined SCCW. There, the titles mean more, and I've held them all. In my eyes, I'm the one to beat around there. Claire: So why not move on? If you've done it all, why stay there? Spike: I did what I wanted to achieve. But it's not ending there. I might have accomplished my old set of goals, but now, I've got new goals, and new aims. I want to be on top of the mountain again. I want to stay on top of the mountain and I want to establish myself as the very best. There's no point in moving on. There will always be a new challenge or a new goal for me in SCCW and that's what I love about it. Stuart: What type of match are you in this week? With SCCW only being shown locally, we can't really keep up with what's going on up there. Spike: It's a tag team match. It'll be me and Wolf, remember him, the one that I formed High Impact with? Stuart: Yeah, I remember him, he's a real bad-ass. Spike: Well, it's us against two guys called Rage and Angelo Rivera. Stuart: Never heard of those two. Spike: Well Rage has been around for a while, but he hasn't really done much. He's a big guy, but you know what they say, 'the bigger they are, the harder they fall'. Well he's in for the fall of his life this week. I don't think he knows what he's getting into this week, but he'll find out soon enough. And as for Angelo Rivera, well, we're having a rivalry, sort of, at the moment. He's the only one left standing between me and getting back the main title. We're scheduled for a big match to determine the champion soon. John: So he's not one to be taken lightly then. Spike: Definitely not. We're at a stalemate at the moment though, neither of us have got an in-ring victory over each other. I wouldn't be surprised to see it stay that way until we meet one-on-one. He's a great wrestler, no doubt about that, so it'll be tough getting one over on him. Angelo is the type of guy who stays focused on things and doesn't stop 'till he's achieved it. John: Sort of like you then. Spike: Exactly, this rivalry isn't really about egos or titles, that's the just what we get at the end. The course of our journey is what it's all about. Finding out which one of us can really call ourselves 'the best'. It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out, very interesting. Spike, noticing Jane's expression, showing definite signs of being uncomfortable with the topic of conversation, changes the subject quickly. Spike: So, what have you been up to John, still doing the computer thing? Still looking at Jane, not really listening to the conversation, Spike takes a drink from his glass as the scene slowly fades to black. |
