Spike and Sloppy Joe Vs Mr. E and Mike Austin

Wildman Willy, Sloppy Joe

Mr. E, Mike Austin

"In every competition since the dawning of time, some have always excelled.  They exceed expectations and bypass the competition, leaving the weak in their wake.  These men take what they want, when they want to and back down from no-one."

the odd couple?!

The scene opens up with a shot of Spike sitting in an empty row of seats.  He is wearing his usual denim jeans and a white t-shirt, with his hair tied back and away from his face.  There is still a small cut, now slowly scabbing over and healing, from the attack of the mysterious wrestler a few weeks back.  He looks over at a small, broken down ring in the middle of what seems to be a training room.  Two young kids come out from the dressing area and an elderly man follows them out.  The two kids get into the ring and stand in opposing corners while listening the older man.  He barks out a few instructions to them, still trying to be an imposing authority figure despite his age and size.

Man: Try not to f*ck this up again, we've been over this time and time again!  I want to see you guys show me exactly what you can do now.  Nothing fancy, just the basics.  Now lets get started!

Spike smiles to himself as he watches it, thinking back to his times in a training ring.  Without really looking at the camera, Spike begins to speak.

Spike: You see all this Wildman Willy?  This is what you need to get by in wrestling.  A grasp of the basics.  You've said time and time again that you are 'hardcore' and that you could beat me and take my Lethal title, but it seems that you were wrong.  You might be a better opponent in a 'hardcore' style match, but that's not what it was last week.  Last week was a wrestling match and look how you fared in that.  All you're bravado was for nothing, all you're bragging was for nothing, you didn't beat me, and you never will.  Until you can either face me in a 'hardcore' rules match or improve in ring, go back to the basics, I'm not wasting any more of my time on you.

Spike looks straight at the camera and his face takes a serious look.  He begins to speak again.

Spike: Last week, I gave out more threats towards the mystery man around SCCW.  But at the moment, he doesn't seem to be taking them seriously.  I gave him a fair chance to be a man and approach me face-to-face, but he's yet to do that.  It's hardly surprising, anyone who's insecure enough to walk around with a mask on wouldn't want to come face-to-face with me.  This week though, the sneak attacks, the running, all the games, will come to a head.  This week, I step in the ring with this 'Mr. E' and I finally get my hands on him.  Knowing the way he acts though, he'll probably spend the whole match hiding behind his partner, Mike Austin.  I'll give Mike his dues, he's a great athlete, but if gets in my way when I'm trying to get to 'Mr. E' then he'll have to be taken out of the equation.  I've faced Mike before, and it was a hell of a match, I think we could both agree on that.  Someday Mike, I'll be coming back for the Provincial title and I just hope that you'll still have it, because I want to be the one to take it from you.  This week isn't about that though.  At the moment, my attention isn't on you, it's on Mr. E.  Don't get in my way Mike, just leave me to do what I have to, kick the living shit out of the guy who is becoming a bane on SCCW.

On a personal note, I'm glad that I was given a tag team partner that I not only respect but trust.  I know it's been said before, but what the hell, I'm going to say it again.  When Sloppy Joe was having problems with Jim Diamond, and I somehow ended up in the middle of it all, that put me on the map.  My matches with Sloppy Joe elevated me in the eyes of the management and the fans, and for that, I will always have an admiration towards him.  I've heard that he and Zelda are looking to 'tie the knot', and all I can say about that is that I wish them both the best of luck with it.  But this week isn't about weddings and mutual respect, it's about a difficult tag team match.  Me and Sloppy, neither of us are strangers to tag team situations, but we've never teamed before.  Now that I come to think of it, we're going to make one hell of a team.  I heard what Sloppy had to say the other day, and it's true.  Two former Provincial Champions teaming up, it's a first and it'll be one hell of a ride.  I know that he's a fun loving kind of guy, but when it comes to being in the ring, he's all business, and that's what I need this week.

Spike looks back at the training ring and sees the two youngsters taking a rest on the ring apron.  The trainer looks around the room and notices Spike sitting on the far side.  After a few seconds he registers who it is and beckons him to go over to him.  Spike gets up and walks over to the elderly man, a large smilem on his face.  The two men share a handshake as they start to talk.

Spike: Hi Bill, how are you?

Bill: You know me, same as always.

Bill motions for Spike to take a seat at ringside as he sits down.  Spike joins him and Bill points up at the two youngsters.

Bill: You see those two guys there, they might just have what it takes to make it.  They are getting better, and sometime soon, there big chance will come, just like yours did.  Hey, guys!  I want you to meet one of my biggest success stories.  This is Spike, from that company in Canada, SCCW.  He was trained right here in this ring by me and now he's a 'superstar'.  If you stick with it, this is where you could be.

Spike: Hi.

Spike acknowledges them, but they simply nod and carry on talking between themselves.

Bill: Sorry about that, they might be promising, but they're ignorant bastards.

Spike laughs a little as Bill carries on talking.

Bill: So what brings you back to your humble beginnings?

Spike: Well, I thought I'd take the chance to reminisce and see how the place was doing.  It looks good, I still remember when I was in their place.  Being in the ring, trying my hardest, but still having you yell and shout at me for doing things wrong.

Bill: Yeah, but look where it got you.  From one big match to another.  You're on top of the world at the moment.  I mean, look at your match this week.  You and Sloppy Joe, a legend in his own right, against Mike Austin and that cheap shotting son-of-a-bitch Mr. E.

Spike: I take it you've been keeping up to date with it then.

Bill: You could say that.  Where did this team of you and Joe come from?  I mean, to use the phrase 'Odd Couple' is an understatement.

Spike: Well, that's true, we don't exactly look like the perfect tag team, but we're both in this together and that's where it ends really.  I don't know about teaming up in the long term, but I know that me and Sloppy Joe have both got the same respect and feeling of admiration for each other, so that's enough to base a team on.  I know that I have to watch my back when I'm going after this Mr, E guy, and it'll be dangerous with Mike Austin in there.  So there's no-one else that I would want to watch my back other than Sloppy Joe.  Well, maybe one guy, but he's in prison for murder.

Bill: Yeah, I remember seeing that.  That was a tough break for that Wolf guy, I don't even know if he knew what he'd done.

Spike: Neither do I, but to be honest, I'd rather not talk about it.

Bill: Sorry.  Well, do you fancy seeing what these guys have got for yourself?

Spike: Both of them?  Why not, I could do with a workout.  Get them ready then, let's see.

The man smiles to himself and goes over to talk to the other two guys.  They both get back in ring and stand over in the far corner.  Spike takes off his t-shirt and starts to climb on to the apron of the ring.  He looks back at Bill and starts to talk.

Spike: Why do I feel like there should be some inspirational power chords playing at the moment?

Bill: Just get in there.

Spike holds up his hands in defense, laughing a little.

Spike: Okay, okay, only kidding.

Spike gets in the ring and stands opposite the two men.  One of them approaches him in the middle of the ring and they lock up in a collar and elbow tie up as the scene slowly fades to black.
