Vs. Devin Hawk

Devin Hawk

"In every competition since the dawning of time, some have always excelled.  They exceed expectations and bypass the competition, leaving the weak in their wake.  These men take what they want, when they want to and back down from no-one."

the one we've all been waiting for...

The scene opens up with a shot of a large living room.  The TV is showing a picture of Devin Hawk, paused.  Sitting on the large black leather couch is Spike.  He has his back to the camera and is talking on a telephone.

Spike: I'm sorry to hear of your choice Wolf, but if it's what you've got to do, then I won't protest.

...

I know, it won't be the same without you.  I guess High Impact is over, for now anyway.  There'll always be a tag team spot open for you if you ever decide to return.

...

Don't worry about Mike Austin, in time, I will get revenge on him, not only for you, but for me as well.

...

What, the masked guy?  I have no idea.  But if and when I do find out there will be hell to pay.  It could be anybody, the only person that I know for definite that it isn't is you, well, and Sloppy Joe, if he was under that black outfit, I think we all could tell.

...

I won't take him lightly, how could I, it is Devin Hawk after all.  He was always the one being noticed before, not me, so I'll take great pleasure in fighting him this week.  It won't be easy, but if you can pin him, I can.

...

Okay man, talk to you soon.  Bye

Spike hangs up the phone and reaches for the remote for the video.  He un-pauses it and starts watching the end of the tape.  He reaches for a glass from off the table next to him and takes a drink from it before placing it back down.  The tape finishes and automatically starts rewinding itself.  He sits back in his seat and starts to talk, directly to the camera.

Spike: This is what I was hoping for Devin, this is what I wanted.  I wanted to face the Devin Hawk that tries to be condescending and holier than thou.  I wanted to face the Devin Hawk that was the Provincial Champion for several months, not a Devin Hawk that is still getting back into the swing of things.  There would've been no point in me facing you unless you were truly ready.  You want to get a shot at the Provincial Championship again?  Well, this is your chance to prove to everyone that you deserve it.   I know what you're going to say...

Spike puts on a fake voice imitating Devin

..."I don't have to prove anything to anyone, I'm the great Devin Hawk, everyone knows who I am, everything should just fall at my feet, I should just have the title given to me."

Spike stops with the fake voice and continues normally.

Spike: Change the record Devin, we've heard it all before.  Do you think that you're the only one that thinks he's above everyone else?  Well you're not.   You seem to think that I said I have surpassed you, when did I say that Devin?  I have never once said that, but now that you mention it, I probably have.  I have no problem admitting what I was when I first started out here, I was useless.  I was just another one of the guys whose names fall into the category of 'Going Nowhere Fast'.  But that all changed.  I realised that I didn't want to be just another guy that gets by each week with one meaningless match after another, I wanted to go places.  So I rose above them, outshining the lower ranking guys and placing myself in a position of more benefit to me.  The same happened again, I got bogged down in the middle of them, so I broke free again and ended up where everyone wants to be, on top of the mountain.  I may not be the champion but everyone knows that I am one of the best.  SCCW boasts a lot of talented wrestlers, some of the past such as Sloppy Joe and Midnight Felon, hell even Matt B. Wild for a time, and then there is the present, the departed Wolf, Mike Austin and me and you.  Everyone knows that title belt or not, we are the best SCCW has to offer.  People fear getting in the ring with us and a lot of the time, people will psyche themselves out before they even get in the ring.  I know that won't happen to you Devin and it sure as hell won't happen to me.

Spike stands up and walks over to the TV, taking out the tape from the video player and tossing it onto a pile of other tapes.  He walks over to the window and looks outside at the beautiful summer weather.  Spike thinks to himself of how summers used to be in England, occasional sunny weather but more often than not, it would piss down most of the year.  He looks back towards the camera and starts to speak again.

Spike: You can talk down to me all you want to, call me "junior" and try to intimidate me, but the fact of the matter is we've both been here since day one.  No-one has talked me out of match and I'm not starting now.  You were right, this match is essentially 10 months in the making.  10 months, give or take your recent departure, and we've never crossed paths, not even once.  Why is that?  I don't know, maybe it's just a coincidence, maybe not, I really don't care.  All that matters is this Sunday.  Finally, I get the chance to see if I can topple the 'great' Devin Hawk.  Seeing as you're one for clichés, if you're going to send me to hell, then I'm going to take you down with me.  This battle could be one of the greats, so violent, so epic, that even the Devil himself would run and take cover.

Spike sits down in the window seat in the bay, absorbing the warm beams of sun glaring through the window.  He looks away from the camera and out of the window, starting to talk again.

Spike: Let me think, what did "The Perfect Nightmare" do at the last big event?  Hmmm... Oh yeah, I remember, he didn't compete, he got bitch slapped by a punk kid.  You say that you'll take care of business when you're ready to, what does that mean?  That you're not ready to take out some new guy.  The old Devin Hawk wouldn't have even been attacked like that let alone waiting before trying o get revenge.  Have you gone soft in your time off Devin?  I remember when you wouldn't hesitate to break that guys neck, and now what, you let me walk away from it unscathed.  If that's the way you are now, then you don't deserve to fight Mike Austin for the belt, and I'll prove that to everyone this week when I do what few have done, beat you in the middle of the ring for the 1...2...3.  You don't think I can do it Devin?  Well bring everything you've got this Sunday, and finally, we'll go one-on-one and finally I can show you why I am the True Franchise...

Spike stares back directly at the camera as the scene fades slowly to black
