"In every competition since the dawning of time, some have always excelled. They exceed expectations and bypass the competition, leaving the weak in their wake. These men take what they want, when they want to and back down from no-one." the first defense... The scene opens to a shot of a fairly small building. From the outside, there is nothing special about it, nothing to set it apart from any other. The camera zooms in on the building and slowly comes around the front of it. It closes in on the front door of the building and goes inside. It passes by a small woman sitting behind a desk and through a double door into a gym. The camera pans around the room and focuses on the only man in the room, the SCCW Provincial Heavyweight Champion, Spike. He is making final preparations for his match with Mike Austin, getting in the final workout before the formalities of match day commence. He finishes the set of reps in his bench press workout and sits up from the bench that he was lying on. He faces the camera and starts to speak. Spike: Mike, this is nothing special, every-one has done a promo in a gym before, but this time, I want you to pay attention. I want you to see that I am in the best physical condition of my life and I want you to see that no matter what you have to throw at me this week, I'm ready. I know what you're thinking though Mike, you're thinking, "He's said that before and look how that turned out, why is this time going to be any different?". Let me answer that for you. This time, it's not just the tag team titles that are on the line, it's the Provincial Heavyweight Championship. That title symbolizes my career. It shows that I have climbed the mountain, and I have paid my dues and finally, I got the top. It shows that I made the necessary sacrifices and that I beat the best to become the best. Keep that in mind Mike, as far as the SCCW roster goes, I am the best. No-one has shown me anything in one-on-one competition lately to prove to me otherwise. I noticed how you've started out your career here Mike, and it looks a lot like mine did. Winning the tag team titles early on and then working your way up from there. After my first tag team title win, it was months until I got a shot at this title. It's a good way to start Mike, but I'm not going to let you bypass months of needing to pay dues and working your way up. In one-on-one action, who have you beaten that makes you worthy of a Provincial title shot? No-one that's who. You got a cheap win over Wolf but that was it. You're not going to degrade this title by winning it Mike, I'm going to improve it's worth and stature by kicking your ass this week. As for you asking your cronies to be absent from ringside, I have to respect that. But if I hadn't asked you to do that would you have done it? Or would you have seen it as a way to get a cheap win over me? I guess we'll never know, but this Sunday it will be just you and me. I guarantee that Wolf will not be at ringside once the bell has rang until it rings again. I don't need Wolfs help to beat you Mike and when he gets his next shot at you, he won't be needing my help either. When we have finished with you Mike, they're going to need dental records to identify you. We're going to beat you so badly that not even your partners will recognize you. A lot of people would say that it's not personal, it's just business, but that's not true now. This is personal, the whole High Impact Vs Attitude Adjustment, it's very personal and I'm going to take a big step in the right direction this week by ending you dreams of winning a SCCW title on your own. Spike stands up and walks over to a small water dispenser. He picks up a plastic cup and holds the tap open. The water pours out into the cup and Spike lifts it to his mouth. He downs it in one and starts to pour some more water in it. Spike: I know that you are going into this match with a confidence level that is beyond enormous but I hate to be the one that breaks it to you Mike, it's all for nothing. Like we've both said before, it'll be a classic encounter but I think everyone knows what will happen. You're going to choke Mike, you're going to blow it. Just when you should be trying to get the win, your ego will get the best of you and instead of wrapping it up, you'll try something fancy or take too long to gloat to anyone that will listen. At that exact moment, you'll regret ever doing it. You're going to have to go for a flawless performance Mike, 'cause the slightest mistake that you make will be the beginning of the end for you. It'll be all over in an instant, if I want it to. You've gone on record now by saying that will make me tap out, how's that going to reflect on you when you realise that you couldn't do it? You see, I'm an equal opportunities kind of guy, I don't care whether I pin you or make you tap, hell I don't even care if they have to stop the match because you're unconscious, as long as I win, I don't care. Spike takes another drink from the plastic cup. He finishes the contents of it and crumples the cup in his hand, tossing it into the bin next to the water dispenser. Spike: I find it hard to believe that you of all people are questioning the credibility of my title win. Think about it Mike, if you were wrestling someone that was injured, would you take pity on them? Of course you wouldn't, in fact, you'd hone in on the injury and exploit it for all it's worth. If you didn't do that, then you'd be a fool. At the end of the day, being in this industry, isn't about making friends or being the guy that everyone loves, it's about taking what you want. If people get put on the shelf in the process then so be it, but it will never stop me from achieving what I want. I know that you'll be a tough match this week Mike, but if I have to put you on the injured list to get the job done then that's exactly what I will do. I may not be a bad guy in general, but when it comes to this industry and when it comes to my title, I have no remorse, I have no conscience and I have no regrets. I'll do what is needed to walk out of Slam this week with the title belt still around my waist and there isn't a damn thing that you or anyone else in Attitude Adjustment can do about it. Spike trails off as the scene slowly fades to black. |
