Hello, my name is Leanne MacLeod and I am currently obtaining my Doula Certification with DONA (Doulas of North America).
I am here to provide additional support to my clients as they prepare to become parents. There seems to be a great deal of misunderstanding surrounding the work of doulas throughout the general public, and the medical community in particular.
Many times I am asked if I am a midwife or if I deliver babies. The answer to both of those questions are "NO". As a labor support doula I accompany women and their support person(s) to labor and help provide emotional and physical comfort measures. I am an addition to the labor team, and not present to take over anyone's role, especially the role of the father when he is involved. Most of the time having a doula present actually helps enhance his role.
