		Cold forging involves either impression die forging or true closed die forging with lubricant and circular dies at or near room temperature. Carbon and standard alloy steels are most commonly cold-forged. Parts are generally symmetrical. The primary advantage is the material savings achieved through precision shapes that require little finishing. Completely contained impressions and extrusion-type metal flow yield draft-less, close-tolerance components. Production rates are very high with exceptional die life. While cold forging usually improves mechanical properties, the improvement is not useful in many common applications and economic advantages remain the primary interest. Tool design and manufacture are critical. Forging temperatures at room conditions, self-heating up to 150 °C due to the forming energy. Advantages of cold forging: Narrowest tolerances achievable. No scaling at work piece surface. Increase of strength and decrease of ductility due to strain hardening. Low formability and high forming forces are necessary

What is forging

Cold-Forging is manufacturing process where metal is pressed, pounded or squeezed under great pressure into high strength parts known as forgings. cold forged product is directly shaped without heat expansion & cold contraction, and thus cold forged product has superior surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
It is important to note that the forging process is entirely different from the casting (or foundry) process, as metal used to make forged parts is never melted and poured.

Why use cold forging

The Cold-Forging process can create parts that are stronger than those manufactured by any other metalworking process. This is why forgings are almost always used where reliability and human safety are critical. But you'll rarely see forgings, as they are normally component parts contained inside assembled items such a airplanes, automobiles, tractors, ships, oil drilling equipment, engines, missiles and all kinds of capital equipment - to name a few.

Material use forging

Just about any metal can be cold-forged. However, some of the most common metals include: carbon, alloy and stainless steels; very hard tool steels; aluminum; titanium; brass and copper; and high-temperature alloys which contain cobalt, nickel or molybdenum. Each metal has distinct strength or weight characteristics that best apply to specific parts as determined by the customer.

Machining

Machining is any of various processes in which a piece of raw material is cut into a desired final shape and size by a controlled material-removal process. Machining is a part of the manufacture of many metal products. Much of modern-day machining is carried out by computer numerical control (CNC), in which computers are used to control the movement and operation of the mills, lathes, and other cutting machines.
