Creation of Men
Inca world.
At the beginning of the world a man named Con arrived from northern zones. He had no bones and claimed to be son of the Sun. Con populated the world with men and women, giving them food and all what they needed. But he, angered by certain offenses, turned sterile the fertile land, took away the rain leaving just some rivers behind.
Another solar son, called Pachamac, exiled Con and turned his men into black cats. Pachamac created men and women again, and he provided his creation with the necessary things to live. They honored and adopted him as God.
After the creation of the first man and the first woman, the food was scarce and the man died. The woman, feeding on roots alone, complained to the Sun for her poverty and loneliness.
The Sun took pity of her and promised to aid her. The sun indicated her to continue the harvest of roots and then the sun covered her with its beams and the woman was pregnant. Filled with hope, she gave birth four days after.
Pachamac felt offended, he thought that he would no longer be honoured as God. He took the child and killed it to use the body to fertilize the soil so it could give abundant fruit.
But the abundance of food did not appease the mother, because everywhere she watched, she saw her son. With this pain she cried out her misfortune and called to the Sun, requesting either punishment or aid.
The Sun descended but he did not want to fight. He felt the pain of the woman who called to him. The sun asked for the grapevine that had risen from the navel of the deceased. The sun created from it another son, and it was given to the mother and named Vichama.
The boy grew up and prospered becoming a good looking young man, who wanted to travel around the world. After he consulted with his mother, Vichama started his journey.
Then, Pachamac grabbed the now old mother and killed her. He divided her body in small pieces feeding with them the crows and condors. The rest was hidden close to the sea. Later Pachamac created men and women who populated the Earth and ruled it.
After a time Vichama, the demigod, returned anxious to see his mother, but he did not find her. A bird told him of the fate of his mother, and Vichama grew angry. Vichama asked the inhabitants for the bones of his mother and, reuniting them, he gave hier life again. Vichama began to plan the revenge against Pachamac. But Pachamac, angry with the men and not wanting to kill another brother, walked into the sea.
This infuriated Vichama even more and he destroyed the men in his wrath, regreting it later. He honored those he had destroyed placing them in rocks and blocks of rock in the sea so that they were adored. Leaves of silver, and other materials are offered to them since then.
Vichama requested the Sun, his father, to create more men and women to populate the Earth. The sun sent three eggs to Vichama, one of gold, another one of silver and another one of copper. From the golden egg the chiefs and the noble men rised; from the silver egg, the women were born, the mates of chieftains and noble men and from the copper egg, common people were born, and they poblated all that zone from that day forth.
