Fondly (Dean)

If we've only got one life to live
why linger on all these complaints?
It's not that everything is perfect
or everyone's got to be a saint
I like to celebrate the flaws
& imperfections people try to hide
they're so much more interesting
than what we choose
to wear on the outside

I think of you fondly
& the things we used to do
though it wasn't a big deal
I really do miss you

Friends sometimes
can change your mind
though it's harder
than changing your socks
but friends who don't
open up their mouths
might as well punch a time clock
& lovers can make you feel less lonely
by getting close enough to recognize
what's behind the looks on our faces
& the tenderness reflected in our eyes

Remember when we went walking
at the crack of dawn
through the cornstalks
wet with rain from the night before
our clothes got soaked & we got lost
we found the road but we were laughing
so hard we didn't even care
& as we walked back
to your parent's house
we picked the stuff
out of each other's hair
