THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Friday November 22, 2002 Vol.95 Hi, hello and welcome fellow Cowboys of the Space variety to this very untimely edition of your "occasional" reading. **** 'Boys Win Streak Extended to Four (4) Games **** The Space Cowboys continued on their winning ways over the last two (2) weeks with victories over the "thuggy thuggs" of The Wave and Rheinhart. On Tuesday the 12th, the 'boys fought off the resilient Wave to hold on for a seventy-three (73) to sixty-seven (67) win. They kept up the great team play that has led to their success this season. They shot a "fabular" forty-nine (49) percent from the field and an "spectaculous" forty-three (43) percent from beyong the three point line. The 'boys also dropped in ten (10) of thirteen (13) free throws to seal the game down the stretch. This past Tuesday, the 19th, the game was slightly different. The home team was facing the "thuggy thuggs" of Rheinhart who came into the game with a worthless zero (0) and six (6) record. The 'boys were expecting nothing less than a blowout in this contest, but they quickly learned not to overlook any opponents. Starting off slow from the floor and playing less than tenacious defense the 'boys let the 'thuggs hang into the game late into the first half. It was only then that they caught fire. it seemed they could not miss a shot. Three (3) pointers were dropping like crazy and the small lead abruptly grew to a more comfortable on. Although the 'boys came away with an easy victory and shot the proverbial lights out, their defense leftmuch to be desired. The 'thuggs scored what had to be a season high seventy-three (73) points against the lackluster Space Cowboys. Needless to say the 'boys have been working defesive drills non stop at this week's practices. There are few teams that will surrender ninety-two (92) points. With their ninety-two (92) to seventy-three (73) victory, the 'boys set a few team records. The thiry-five (35) field goals made broke the old mark of thirty-two (32) from November 6, 2001 win a win over PWA. The ninety-two (92) points scored breaks the record of eighty-four (84) scored against Famous Dave's on January 8, 2002. And along with the scoring was 100% free throw shooting as the connected on all five (5) of their attempts in the game. The Space Cowboys had accomplished another feat for the first time in their win over Rheinhart. Six of the seven players, all the attepmted a shot, scored in double figures. Keith Lubbers was the lone 'boy short of a "ten spot". Mr. Lubbers was making his debut after a long abscence with a broken wrist. He got in some quality time, but did not attempt any shots. As for the rest of the team, they were quite "incredulous". Six players in double figures is not a common occurence in the Sports of All Sorts Tuesday Night Basetkabll League. **** Box Score November 12, 2002 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP K.Lubbers 10 - - - - - - - N.Lubbers 23 8 11 6 8 0 0 22 Jeffries 24 3 9 2 7 0 0 8 Krallman 27 7 14 0 1 8 10 22 Ash 30 3 7 3 7 2 2 11 Boyer 33 - - - - - - - Schickling 34 5 12 2 6 0 1 12 Totals 121 26 53 13 30 10 13 73 49% 43% 77% Attendance: 10 (Batsche, Elsbernd, Rory, O'Donnell, Sargent, Thomas, Warkin, Williams 2 unknowns) Season Attendance: 40 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Tony Sargent **** Box Score November 19, 2002 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP K.Lubbers 10 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 N.Lubbers 23 9 15 5 7 0 0 23 Jeffries 24 4 7 4 6 2 2 14 Krallman 27 4 11 0 1 2 2 10 Ash 30 6 10 4 8 0 0 16 Boyer 33 7 11 1 4 1 1 16 Schickling 34 5 12 3 9 0 0 13 Totals 121 35 66 17 35 5 5 92 53% 49% 100% Attendance: 7 (Elsbernd, Hayes, Rory, O'Donnell, Sargent, Sears, Warkin) Season Attendance: 47 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Tony Sargent **** Next Game Tuesday November 26, 2002 **** The Space Cowboys will be in action once again this Tuesday, November 26 at 8 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. The 'boys will be taking on the "thuggy thuggs" of the Sknk Buds. LIttle is known of the 'Buds other than their record. Going into action last Tuesday they carried the same five (5) wins and one (1) loss as our Space Cowboys. However, they played the undefeated defending champion Smokies. No matter what the outcome of their game, this contest, the last of the Fall 2002 regular season will be for the higher seed in the tournament. Which seed is unknown at the moment. The three teams mentioned are all locks for the postseason, the forth team however, is currently a mystery. So come on out to the "big arean by the highway" to watch the Space Cowboys battle it out with the Skunk Buds. The 'boys will be trying to complete a miracle season. Their current six (6) wins ties the most ever by a Cowboy team, even in this shortened eight (8) game season, the home team has done the unthinkable and put themselves in their best position ever to capture the ever elusive Sports of All Sorts Tuesday Night League Championship. So come out to to watch some great basketball, come out to spend time with your friends, come out to root on the Space Cowboys, come out to witness history. Doors open nat 7:46 with pregame festivits following. **** Schedule Change **** The Space Cowboys were informed of the following schedule change at their mostrecent contest. The six and seven o'clock games this Tuesday, the 26th have been cancelled and moved to the following week on December 3. With this change the Post Season will be pushed back to December 10. The team will have NO game on Tuesday December 3 and will spend the week preparing for the tournament. **** Louisville Earth Cowboys **** Word has come up fromthe Space Cowboys Louisville affiliate Earth Cowboys that one Kevin Brinkman deserves another shot on the "big club." It appears that Mr. Brinkman, who has been working hard with Buddy Lee, has just been "torching" the opposition in the International League. They feel there is just no way for him to develope any more against the level of competition he is playing against. With this recommendation the Space Cowboys made it official early this morning that he will be recalled and with the team for the game this Tuesday against the Skunk Buds. Although playing time is not guaranteed, Mr. Brinkman simply on the bench provides a spark that can drive a team to victory. Kevin Brinkman, welcome to the big leagues....again. **** Orbital Celelbration **** In case you did not notice this is the 95th edition of the Occasional Orbiter and with the 100th edition approaching fast we would like to take some suggestions as to what should be done to celebrate the longevity of your occasional reading. We'll see what kind of fan he is come this week. Everyone shows up for the postseason, but real fans see it the regular season out....Speaking of MIA Michael Brinkman, who is continuing his schooling has been unable to attend a game for some time now. With any luck he will his course completed come tournament time....More attendace: the presence of Lance Schickling and Andrw Krallman has brought in an average of 3.1 more fans the last two weeks....What would it take to get one Paul "CP" Brinkman out to the "b.a.b.t.h."?
