THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Monday November 11, 2002 Vol.94 Hi, hello and welcome fellow Cowboys of the Space variety to this weeks fabular and spectaculous edition of your occaisonal reading. **** Cowboys Stuff The Jam **** The Space Cowboys defeated the "thuggy thuggs" of The Jam for the first time in many leagues last Tuesday seventy-one (71) to sixty-two (62) to bring their record to four (4) wins and one (1) loss on the season. It was a complete team effort that led to this victory as the 'boys shot an "incredulous" fifty-five (55) percent (%) from the field. They jumped out on the 'thuggs early and retained the lead for the majority of the game. The held on to a six (6) point thirty-seven to thiry-one (31) lead going into the halftime intermission. It was at that time that the home team realized that this was their game to lose. They finnally had their chance to knock off The Jam. They began the second half in grand fashion extending their lead marginally to somewhere around fifteen (15) points. But that would not be enough for The Jam to just quit. The 'boys have struggled mightily ,ever since their creation, at retaining a second half lead, but this game would be different. The 'boys held off several charges by the 'thuggs to get back into the game and finally put them away by knocking down some clutch free throws in the final minute. There were a few bright spots for the home team in this game. First off, Jeremy Jeffries had one ofthe best game of hiks career scoring twenty-four (24) points on nine (9) of thirteen (13) shooting. It was the first time he broke the twnety (20) point barrier sine putting in twenty (20) on February 12 against Famous Dave's, and only the fourth time of his career. Also putting together solid performances were Andy Krallman and Lance Schicking, scoring seventeen and fourteen points respectively. Mr. Krallman scored fifteen of his seventeen in the first half. Overall this was one of the best game the space COwboys have played in some time. Their 55% shooting was just 1% off the team record and their defense for once did not collapse when itwas needed most. Good game all around fellas. **** Box Score November 5, 2002 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP K.Lubbers 10 - - - - - - - N.Lubbers 23 5 10 3 6 1 1 14 Jeffries 24 9 13 4 8 2 4 24 Krallman 27 7 13 0 0 3 5 17 Ash 30 1 2 0 1 0 1 2 Boyer 33 0 3 0 3 0 0 0 Schickling 34 6 10 2 5 0 1 14 Totals 121 28 51 10 23 6 12 71 55% 43% 50% Attendance: 11 (Batsche, Charlie, Elsbernd, Huhn, N.Lenihan, P.Lenihan, O'Donnell, Rory, Sears, Sargent, Warken) Season Attendance: 30 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Dan Huhn **** Next Game Tuesday November 12, 2002 **** The Space Cowboys will be in action once again tomorrow Tuesday Novmeber 12 at 8 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. The 'boys will be taking on the "thuggy thuggs" of The Wave. Currently there is nothing known of this opponent, but with the way the Cowboys have been playing they expect to come away with a win an gurantee consecutive non-losing seasons. They may be a little shorthanded in their attempt to win their fifth game in si chances. It appears that James "jimmy b." Boyer may be attempting to get a job at the time of the game. He has recieved the "go ahead" from the front office to miss the game, but his decision has not been confirmed. This situation may call for drastic measures. Members of the Space Cowboys have been trying to reach Keith Lubbers in hopes of hearing some good news on the condition of his healing wrist. Their hopes are that of Mr. Lubbers dressing and receiving minimal playing time. His prescence would be more that of an "Emergency Replacement" should something happen to one of the regulars. This means taht Michael Ash will have to step up and out of his recent shooting woes and make a sizable contribution to the team. Mr. Ash has been receiving minimal playing time himslef since the aquisition of Andy Krallman. He has taken the cut in "PT" very well, but will be given the opportunity to shine once again tomorrow night. So come on out to the "big arena by the highway" and catch some exhilarating Space Cowboys basketball. The doors will be opening at 7:48 wioth pregame festivitis beggining shortly threafter. **** Attendance Notes **** We here at the Occasional Orbiter wouldl like to mention a few of the loyal Space Cowboys fans that have been neglected i nthe past and who have made special journeys to be present at the games. First off, we would like to apologize to Christina Batsche for leaving her name off the attendannce list for the game of October 29 in Vol. 93 of the Occasional Orbiter. We are sorry for our mistake and appreciate you pointing it out ot us. Thank you. Next we would like to mention that once again Dan Huhn was present at a game. That makes two in a row for Mr. Huhn after an absence of over fifty game. Not only was he at the game to give the team support, but he stepped into the role of scorekeepr vacated by Mr. Keith Lubbers who missed his first game in quite a while for a worthless personal reason. Finnally the Occasional Orbiter would like to recognize Ms. Nikole Lenihan for making the trip to the "big arena by the highway" once again from the depths of Louisville, Kentucky. Ms. lenihan has proven hersolf one of hte most loyal fans the Space Cowboys have ever seen. Although she is not at a "plethora" of games, she does make the journey more often than other fellow Lousivillians. Thanks to all of the Space Cowboy fans for making the team what they are today. You are all appreciated! **** News and Notes **** Injury Report: N/A....Upon looking at his stats an interesting one was found for Michael Ash. His carrer numbers against Famous Dave's in three gamems are: 24.7ppg 48%FG 54%3PTFG. Three of his five twenty+ point games have come against Famous Dave's....Records Set: Nick Lubbers 100% Ft. Also Nick Lubbers has not led the team in scoring or shooting for the three straight games, the longest previous strak was two....There have been four different leading scorers in five games and three different leading FG%. Who knows what could be if it all came together in one game. That will be all for this edtion of the Occasional Orbiter.
