THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi, hello and welcome fellow Cowboys of the Space variety to this week's edition of your occasional reading. Vol.87 **** Boyer Chokes, 'Boys Lose **** James "Jimmy Ullgghhh" Boyer missed a three pointer at the buzzer that would have won the game as the 'boys fell to their "archrivals" of the Elite Eight fifty-four (54) to fifty-two (52). The home team jumped out to a samll lead early and went into the second half with what seemed to be some momentum, but the 'thuggs were not about to roll over and die. They began the second half by not only cutting into the lead but on an eleven (11) to nothing (0) run the 'thuggs leaped to a three (3) point lead. From then on the 'boys would be playing comeback. That comeback would be hard to come by with the Elite Eight having the likes of Jack Black and the "tenacious D" at their disposal. The 'thuggs put on a relentless defensive performance limiting the home team to just four (4) field goals in the entire second half. This defense was the difference in the game and gave the "away team" the victory. The 'boys had their chance in the final moments. After converting on crutial free throws and committing the foul, the Elite Eight had to convert both free throws to put the game out of reach with just seconds remaining. They missed both and after getting the rebound thje Cowboys would have one last shot at the win. Lance Schiling recieved the ball off the inbound and with no where to go found Mr. Boyer. It was then that he missed the three that would have won the game. When asked for comments after the game, the team was quoted as saying, "Jimmmy noooo." This games pulls the two rivals even in the win and loss columns at five (5) and three (3). It also evened the season series at one apeice. We are looking forward to the possibilities of the two clubs meeting again in the postseason. **** Box Score September , 2002 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP K.Lubbers 10 2 5 0 1 0 0 4 N.Lubbers 23 7 12 3 6 4 5 21 Jeffries 24 2 5 2 5 0 0 8 Ash 30 0 2 0 2 0 0 0 Boyer 33 2 3 2 3 2 2 6 Schickling 34 2 8 0 1 5 7 9 Keene 44 1 4 0 0 0 4 2 Totals 198 16 39 9 21 13 20 52 41% 39% 65% Attendance: 7 (Batsche, Glass, Goetz, Kaylor, Kidd, Moser, Sears) Season Attendance: 45 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Christina Batsche **** Next Game Tuesday September 10, 2002 **** The Space Cowboys will be in action once again Tueday, September 10 at 8 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. The 'boys will be trying to halt their three (3) game losing streak against the team that gave them their first loss of the season, "The Jam." The 'boys fell to the "thuggs" sixty-six (66) to fifty-two (52) when they put on a brilliant shooting display that will be nearly impossible to repeat. So come on out to the "big arena by the highway" to watch the 'boys put an end totheir poor play and come out firing on all cylinders. They will look to equal their single season victories record of six and guarntee their first winning season since last Summer's session. **** News and Notes **** "BMBK" returned to action last Tuesday night a little rusty. Mr. Keene was 1-4 from the field and 0-4 from the line....Mr. Schickling once again struggled putting in just two (2) of eight (8) shots for his second consecutive game of scoring in single digits. What's up with that?....Michael Ash was held scoreless on zero (0) of two (2) shooting. It was his first scoreless game since a string of three in five game last September....James Boyer connected on his first two (2) free throws of his career making him now a ridiculous two for seven....Michael Brinkman has attended just one game this season which was on July 30, 5 game ago. **** Orbital Correction **** It was brought to our attention that in mentioning the former "cowboys" in our last edition that one member of the "Elite Eight" was overlooked. Bill Aseere, number five in your scorebook number 4 in your hearts, was also a member of what would become the Space Cowboys. We would like to thank loyal reader and also former Cowboy Dan Resing for catching this mistake. **** Clarification **** For those of you who may be in the great state of Texas and a little behind as far as mental capcity goes, we here at the Occasional Orbiter would like to clarify a long misunderstood fact about the Space Cowboys. The question was recently asked if the Space Cowboys always played the same team. With said team being the "thuggy thuggs". The answer to that question would be no. The team referred to as the "home team" plays a schedule of ten (10) games per league against as many as nine (9) other teams. In the current Summmer Season there are eight (8) teams including the beloved Cowboys so three (3) teams will be played two (2) different times in the regular season. We hope that this has been of some help and if you ahve any other questions please email us at occasionalorbiter@hotmail.com. That will be all for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter.
