THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Tuesday September 3, 2002 Vol.86 Hi, hello and welcome fellow Cowboypersons of the Space variety to this highly intesified edition of your occasional reading. **** 'Boys Lose Number Two (2) **** The Space Cowboys dropped their second game of the season last Tuesday night when they fell to the "thuggy thuggs" of the Smokies sixty-two (62) to fifty-two (52). The 'boys pretty well kept themselves in the "thick of things" for the majority of the contest. They just could not get over the proverbial hump to gain any ground on the defending champs (times two), the Smokies. Once they pulled the lead out to ten points, midway through the first half, it remained that way until the final buzzer sounded. The Cowboys, as a team, did struggle quite a bit though from the field. This game was only the second time in which they failed to shoot at least forty (40) percentn (%) from the floor. Both times resulted in a loss. In a season when the home team is on pass to break the club record for field goal percentage, they need to keep their heads up and play smart even against tough competition. That has been somewhat hard to do of late, with the "complete" team not being present for a few weeks now. "Big Man" Ben Keene's absence finnally caught up to them. Without any sort of inside presence, they become even more a one dimensional three poit shootingn team. Come back BMBK, come back. **** Box Score September 3, 2002 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP K.Lubbers 10 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 N.Lubbers 23 7 13 3 7 2 2 19 Jeffries 24 4 11 4 11 0 0 12 Ash 30 3 10 3 9 0 0 9 Boyer 33 2 8 1 5 0 0 5 Schickling 34 3 13 1 7 0 0 7 Keene 44 - - - - - - - Totals 198 19 56 12 40 2 2 52 34% 30% 100% Attendance: 5 (Batsche, Elsbernd, Moser, Sears, Thomas) Season Attendance: 38 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Christina Batsche **** Next Game (today) Tuesday September 3, 2002 **** The Space Cowboys will renew their rivalry with "Elite Eight" aka "thuggy thuggs of the mmmrrrr variety" tonight, Tuesday September 3 at 9 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. Theses two clubs will be making their second appearance against each other this season and third overall. The Space Cowboys are up two (2) wins to none (0) including a fifty-three (53) to thiry-nine (39) victory in the first game of the Summer Season. This rivalry has a little more history to it than just those two (2) games though. To start off with, John Rasp, a member of the "Elite Eight" was made an offer to remain with the Cowboys through this Summer Season. Mr. Rasp declined and was immeadiatly placed on waivers. Soon thereafter he joined up with his current team with hopes of more playing time and scoring opportunities. There are also two other members of the Elite Eight who were at one time "Space Cowboys". Jeff "MMrrrr" Elsbernd and Daniel Gerwe were, years ago, part of what would become the Space Cowboys. With that and all mojority of the rst of the team "aquaintances" with the home team, this is bound to be a very intense matchup. So come on out to the "big arena by the highway" to enjoy some fundamentally sound fantabular and spectaculous basketball. It all goes down tonight, Tuesday September 3 at 9 P.M. Doors will open at 8:29 with pregame festivies following at approxamatly 8:48. **** News and Notes **** It has been confirmed that "Big Man" Ben Keene will be making his triunphant return to the Space Cowboys in tonight's matchup....Jeremy Jeffries put a temporary end to his shooting woes with his 4/11 night....Lance Schickling struggled terribly for the first time as a cowboy. He is expected to make a strongn return....Upon reaching the Elite Eight for a comment on tonight's game all that was understood was, "MMmrrrrwewanttowinmrrrr."
