THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi, hello and welcoem fellow Cowboys of the Space variety to this most fabular and spectacuous edition of your occasional reading. **** Cowboys Victorious Once Again **** The Space Cowboys notched their third win of the young Summer Season last Tuesday night with a sixty-one (61) to fifty-four (54) win over the "thuggy thuggs" of Advantage Lawn Care. It was another overall team effort that led the 'boys to the "W". For the second striaght game they played a successfull "man to man" defense. This is somewhat "uncharted territory" for them as they have relied on the two-three zone for their entire existence. This "tenacious d" combined with an offense that is becoming very potent, are making the Space Cowboys a force to be reckoned with in the Sports of All Sorts Tuesday Night Basketball Leauge. It looked like another blowout was going to be in store for the "thuggy thuggs" when the home team got off to a hot start. They knocked down the first five (5) shots they attempted to jump out to the early lead. The 'thugs would not just roll over and it was a battle for the entire first half. After committing a few costly turnovers near the intermission the 'boys found themselves up just three (3) points when the horn sounded. The second half was more of the same with both team battling for the lead. With fifty (50) seconds remaining and a four point lead the 'boys looked to put the game out of reach with a couple free throws by Lance Shcickling. But Mr. Shcickling failed to connect on either free throw, but with his second miss Mr. Kevin Brinkman grabbed a huge rebound and brought the ball back to the top ofthe key. The 'boys would then move the ball around and wasted thiry (30) seconds off the clock before Mr. Shickling was fouled once more. This time he would connect on both free throw and put the game on the proverbial "ice". A couple bright spots for the home team: Michael Ash continued his hot shooting knocking down three (3) of five (5) for eight (8) points. And Jeremy Jeffries came out of his "mini-slump". After scoring in doule figures in seven straight games dating back to the Spring Season, Mr. Jeffries had failed to do so in his last four attempts. He snapped the streak Tuesday by putting in sixteen points on four (4) of six (6) shooting from behind the arc. The organization would like to thanks James "Jigga, Jimmy B. Jefe" Boyer for filling in as a subsitute for Keith Lubbers who had prior engagements. **** Box Score August 6, 2002 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP K.Lubbers 10 - - - - - - - Brinkman 20 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 N.Lubbers 23 9 13 4 7 0 0 22 Jeffries 24 6 13 4 6 0 0 16 Ash 30 3 5 2 4 0 0 8 Boyer 33 1 3 0 1 0 2 2 Schickling 34 3 9 1 4 4 6 11 Keene 44 1 2 0 0 0 0 2 Totals 185 23 46 11 22 4 8 61 50% 50% 50% Attendance: 7 (Batsche, Carnes, Goetz, Kaylor, Keene, Kidd, Lenihan) Season Attendance: 24 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Christina Batsche **** Next Game Tuesday August 13, 2002 **** The Space Cowboys will be in action once again on Tuesday August 13 at 7 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. They will be facing the "thuggy thuggs" of Plastiline in an attempt to up their record to four (4) wins and one (1) loss, and extend their winning streak to three (3) straight. In the only previous meeting between the Space Cowboys and Plastiline the 'boys were knocked off forty-eight (48) to forty-five (45). This in a game where no subsitutes were available due to injuries to Mr. Brinkman and Mr. Ash. It is the feeling of the team that this loss must be avenged. Had any substitutes been avaiable the game would have ended with the home team on the wining side of the score board. So come on out to the "big arena by the highway" to watch our Space Cowboys take down the "thuggy thuggs" once more in there neverending quest for the ever elusive Sports of All Sorts Tuesday Night League Championship.
