THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Sunday July 14, 2002 Vol.79 Hi, hello and welcome fellow Cowboys of the Space variety to this long delayed edtion of your occasional reading. **** 'Boys Spanked in Tournament **** The Space Cowboys completed the 2002 Spring Season on Tuesday June 18th, meeting the "thuggy thuggs" of Barely Legal once again, and once again losing convincingly. The home team was just simply outmatched in this seventy-four (74) to forty-four (44) loss, and it was that way from the "get go". We will spare the ugly details from the game and head directly to the "bright spots." And the brightest spot was that of "Big Man" Ben Keene. He simply dominated in the loss. Mr. Keene scored a season high fourteen (14) points on seven (7) of eleven (11) shooting. This was the first time he reached double figures since putting in ten (10) last August 7th and ony the fourth time in his career of 48 games. But not only did he break out of a year long "slump", but he scored the "loudest" two point of the season. With the smaller 'thugg Lance Shickling guarding him, Mr. Keene took advantage. In the second half he recieved the ball at the foul line. He gave a quick shake and took the ball strong to the perverbial "rack" and slammed it home! Congratulations "Big Man" on a fabular and spectaculous performance to end the season. **** Box Score June 18, 2002 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Rasp 1 1 2 0 0 0 0 2 K.Lubbers 10 2 3 0 2 0 0 4 Brinkman 20 2 2 2 2 0 0 6 N.Lubbers 23 1 7 1 5 0 0 3 Jeffries 24 2 10 0 7 0 0 4 Ash 30 2 6 2 4 0 0 6 Keene 44 7 11 0 0 0 2 14 Hedrington 45 2 5 0 0 1 1 5 Totals 197 19 48 5 21 1 3 44 40% 24% 33% Attendance: 7 (Elsbernd, Kron, Lubbers, Lubbers, Moser, Sears, Young) Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Rory Moser **** Roster Changes **** The Space Cowboys have made a few transactions since nthe end of the Spring season and you will see a slightly different team taking the court for the Summer Season. To begin with, Fred Hedrington was placed on waivers immediatly following the completion of the tournament. Mr. Hedring ton had his moments, but in the end did not live up to the expectations he came in with. He also was inconsistent with his attendance. The second of the moves the 'boys made was a harder one to make. To Space Cowboys granted John Rasp his outright release so that he may begin the Summer Season with the always hated "thuggy thuggs" of the MMMrrrrr boys. Although Mr. Rasp will be missed the organization did not want to "hold him down" and saw the best opportunity for his to succed was with another club. Best of luck to you Johnny. As for new editions to the team the 'boys will add long time rival Lance Schickling. This is a very solid acquisition for the home team. Mr. Schickling is a scorer, but not the same type as one Ted Arlinghaus. He is an all around team player and dominant on both sides of the court. He will defintly aid in the 'boys run for the always elusive Sports of All Sorts tuesdy Night League Championship. **** 2002 Summer Season **** The 2002 Summer Season is set and ready to begin. The 'boys will begin the season this coming Tuesday July 16 at 9 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. This could be one of the bigest games of the year as they will face off against the aforementioned "thuggy thuggs" of the Mmrrrr variety. The game will be less of a "team to team" matchup as up to three (3) of the Space Cowboys will not be in attendance. "fat Guards" Michael Ash and Jeremy Jeffries are on a "getaway" in Panama City Fla. and Keith Lubbers will be in the office. Although a great game is still anticipated it will not be quite what it could have been with all the subsitutues that are needed. Speaking of subsititutions two (2) "extras" will be present to lend the 'boys a hand. One time Cowboys James Boyer will be making his second appearance with the team and will be searching for his first field goal. Mr. Boyer was a horrific zero (0) for seven (7) in his previous outing, but management still has hope in this young gunslinger. Making his triumphant return to the "big arean by the highway" with Mr. Boyer will be the always popular Dave Iles. Mr. Iles was with the team as recently as the Winter Season, but had to decline the offer for the Spring due to prior engagements. So come on out to the Sports of all Sorts Arena oin Florence as your Space Cowboys take on the "thuggy thuggs" of the Mmmmrrr variety at 9 P.M. Doors open at 8:32 with pregame festivities following at approxamately 8:49. **** Space Cowboys Paraphernalia **** This is going to be the last opportunity for all of you loyal Space Cowboys fans to get any sort of paraphernailia. We have recently asked fro any orders for "jerseys" and keychains. Although a few replied were recieved no action was taken with hopes that more would be following. But this is it.
