THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Monday May 27, 2002 Vol.75 Hi, hello and welcome fellow Cowboys of the Space variety to the most "fabular" and "spectaculous" edition of you occasional reading. **** Basketball's New Elite Players **** The Space Cowboys somewhat claimed a new name in their defeat of "Basketball's Elite Players" seventy-four (74) to fifty-five (55) lasat Tuesday at the Sports of All Sorts Arena. The home tema came out ready to play for the first time this season and really put on a show. The we are top for the majority of the game before pulling away in the second half. This was a big win for the 'boys as it still leaves them an outside chance at finishing the season over the .500 mark. The win can be contributed to solid team play. As far as scoring there were four (4) 'boys in double figures along with a nine (9) point performance. They passed the ball around, looked for the open shot, and knocked it down. They tied a team record by shooting fifty-six (56) percent (%) [28/50] from the field and broke the three (3) point percentage (%) mark by connecting on fifty (50) percent (%) [11/22]. Not only were the 'boys getting the "job" done on the offensiveend of the floor, but there defense was just as dominating. Although they continued to go through their normal second half "swoon" they picked up the intesity on defense to protect the lead. Look for the Space Cowboys to come into this week's game with a new vote of confidence along with a better all around game. Being such a good game there were a plethora of "bright spots." First off we would like to recognize Kevin Brinkman for scoring his first points of the season, shooting one (1) out of two (2) from three (3) point land. Also, on limited "touches", John Rasp and "Big Man" Ben Keene who also put together solid performamnces. "BMBK" put together a record setting game going a perfect four (4) for four (4) from the field. Congratulations Mr. Big Man! **** Box Score May 21, 2002 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Rasp 1 2 3 0 1 2 4 6 K.Lubbers 10 2 6 0 3 0 0 4 Brinkman 20 1 2 1 2 0 0 3 N.Lubbers 23 6 10 3 5 0 0 15 Jeffries 24 4 10 4 6 2 3 14 Ash 30 5 11 3 6 0 0 13 Keene 44 4 4 0 0 1 3 9 Hedrington 45 4 8 0 0 2 2 10 Totals 197 28 50 11 22 7 12 60 56% 50% 58% Attendance: 10 (Batsche, Deb, Gerwe, Keene, Lubbers J, Lubbers.K, Mmmrr, Rodney, Sears, Young) Season Attendance: 63 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Christina Batsche **** Next Game Tuesday May 28, 2002 **** The Space Cowboys will be in action for the eighth time of this Spring Season this Tuesday, May 28, at 7 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. The home team will be facing the "thuggy thuggs" of the Domniators as they try to extend their winning streak to an unprecidented two (2) games. They will also be looking for everyone on the active roster to be present for the second straight game. If last week was any indication the 'boys will be in good shape, as they plan to have their entire active roster ready to play. The boost the extra men provided off the bench can not be measured in any way. They were simple "incredulous". So come on out to the "big arena by the highway" to support our Space Cowboys as they search for their fourth win of the season and try to avoid the "domination" of the Dominators. Doors will open at 6:43 with pregame festivies following whenever they damn well feel like it. **** Space Cowboys Softball Update **** The Space Cowboys of the Softball variety had a bit of a shortened weekend. The 'boys only participated in one game on this holiday weekend and came out on the smiling side of the scoreboard thirteen (13) to ten (10). it appears that the tide has changed after a rough first season, the softball 'boys have bounced back to a combined five (5) and one (1) record over three (3) leagues. The mosmt recent victory came over Hundley Painting friday Night at Lubbers Field. The bats were defintly "en fuego" as the thirteen (13) runs is a season high. The Friday night 'boys improve to two (2) wins and zero (0) losses, and extended the Space Cowoboys franchise winning streak to five (5) games. The Softball 'Boys won all their games last weekend along with the "w" on Tuesday. With the way they are playing it will be up to the Bbasketball 'Boys to keep the streak alive. Don't miss out on any of the softball action. Check out all the numbers and game times at the "Internet Home of the Space Cowboys", http://www.geocities.com/spaceranch2001. Also, the organization is thinking of placing another "uniform" order. If anyone is interested in owning your own personalized Space Cowboys "uniform" just drop us a line at occasionalorbiter@hotmail.com. There is a possiblity of a slight change in the design. Instead of the black lettering we may opt for some sort of dark blue. The decision is not final and subject to change. Pink is also in the runing. If you have an opnion or suggestions on the shirts just let us know. **** Space Cowboys at Great American Ballpark **** In a recent journey to the "big ballpark by the river" a few members of hte Space Cowboys left their mark on a peice of steel allowed for the public to sign on. Aside fron printing their names on said piece of steal, Mr. Kevin Brinkman did the honors and boldly printed Space Cowboys for everyone to enjoy in the years to come at Great American Ballpark, the new home of the Cincinnati Reds. **** Website Update **** The Internet Home of the Space Cowboys is soon to be newly updated in the "Picture Gallery". After months of waiting on a "scanner" an arrangment was finnally made and the pictures on in the process of making it to the world wide web. Within the next couple weeks it should be completely updated. Check it daily for any changes at http://www.geocities.com/spaceranch2001. As a notice, there have been some technical difficulties in some areas of the Space Ranch. The problems are compltely out of our control and in the hands Yahoo Geocities. We are sorry for any inconvinience thsi may cause. **** News and Notes **** Injury Report:Rumors began to fly after the ecompletion of the most recent Space Cowboys softball contest that Kevin Brinkman agrivted his "tender" ankle attemting to run down a fly ball. Mr. Brinkman is scheduled to be in the lineup.....Jeremy Jeffries continued his unbeleiveable streak of scoring in double figures for hte fifth straight game and six of seven putting in fourteen (14) points. Prior to his current "run" his personal best was two....Ben Young's streak of games attended is at four (4)....After attending the first four (4) games of the season, Michael Brinkman has been MIA at the last two....Speaking of missing Brinkman's, it seems Paul "CP" Brinkman cannot find the time to support the Space Cowboys. The elder Brinkman does not appear to have the loyalty the rest of the family does. Jeff, the middle of the Brinkman 'boys singlehandedly spread the Space Cowboy name to the greater New Orleans area, Kevin the "baby" is a contributor on the team and Michael and the #1 fan in the world compred to CP. Will he make his second trip out to the "big arena by the highway" in five years???? Don't count on it.....Larry Keene was finnaly present at last week's contest to recieve his complementary Orange Lanyard for all the dedication he has shown for the team. You can almost always count on "Bigger Man" Larry Keene (aka #1 Fan) to be in the stands come game time. That will be all for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter, but keep your eyes open because you never know when those darn occasional reminders will pop up again. Possibly occasionally...
