THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Monday May 20, 2002 Vol.74 Hi, hell and welcome fellow Cowboys of the spiggity iggity Space variety to the latest edtion of your occasional reading. **** 'Boys Fall Yet Again **** Another worthless second half did in the Space Cowboys as they fell to the "thuggy thuggs" of The Jam sixty-four (64) to sixty (60). After beginning the game with decent shooting and the always tenacious defense that is a trademark of the 'boys, they just fell apart. The home team was down only three (3)points (42-39) at the midway point and felt good about their chances to walk out of the "big arena by the highway" with their third win. But that would not be the case. The 'boys came out ice cold in the second half ,but lucklily so did the 'thuggs. In a game that could have and should have been blown wide open by the Space Cowboys, it was instead a fight til the end and they came up on the short hand for th4e fourth time in six games this season. There were, despite the outcome, a few bright spots for the Space Cowboys. Most notably was John Rasp. Mr. Rasp, who has sturggles mightily through the first half of the season, busted out of his slump with a five (5) of eight (8) shooting performance. MIchael ASh also contributed for just the second time this season and as always "big Man" Ben Keene put together another solid performance. On the other hand, some of the teams struggles can be laid upon the shoulders of one Nick Lubbers. For the second consecutvie week the 'boys "little man" was "absent" in the second half. This trend is not a good one for the team, as he is just wasting space on the court. Hopefully in their next matchup, the 'boys and Mr. Lubbers can change their bad fourtune, and play. **** Box Score May 14, 2002 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Rasp 1 5 8 2 5 0 0 12 K.Lubbers 10 - - - - - - - Brinkman 20 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 N.Lubbers 23 6 15 4 11 2 2 18 Jeffries 24 4 12 3 9 0 1 11 Ash 30 5 12 4 9 2 2 16 Keene 44 0 1 0 0 1 2 1 Hedrington 45 1 5 0 1 0 0 2 Totals 197 21 50 13 35 5 7 60 42% 37% 71% Attendance: 6 (Batsche, Josh, J.Lubbers, K.Lubbers, Meagn, Young) Season Attendance: 53 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Christina Batsche **** Next Game May 21st, 2002 **** The Space Cowboys will be on the court again this coming Tuesday (today) May 21, at 8 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. THe 'boys will be facing the "thuggy thuggs" of Basketball's Elite Players and as with the rest of their opponents nothing is known of their basektball capabilities, but that is nothing that should keep you from coming out to the "big arena by the highway". THere is always time for exhilarating Space Cowboys basketball. Other than just the basketball, the higher ups in the organization, feel that this week the cermony for the presentation of the orange lanyard, to one of the most dedicated fans around will go on. The presentation has been delayed because the recipient was not in the tristate area. So come on out to the home of thhe Space Cowboys, Sports of All SOrts in Florence at 8 P.M. to see the Cowboys in action. Doors will open at 7:37 with pregame festivitis beginning at approxamatly 7:48. **** Space Cowboys Softball Update **** The Space Cowboys of the Softball variety did not have a very productive weekend, which obviously means that they did not play. The games scheduled for this past Friday and Saturday, the 17th and 18th repectivly, were postpondedd due to rain, but the 'boys did get a game in on Sunday morning. Taking out a little frustration with the fact that they only played one (1) game over the weekend, the home team jumped out to an early nine (9) to one (1) lead after jsut the first inning. The game would last only five (5) innings as the Space Cowboys would triumphantly "ten run rule" their opponent. The win moves the Sunday morning 'boys to a surprising two (2) wins and one (1) loss. Check out all their numbers online at the Space Ranch, http://www.geocities.com/spaceranch2001. Also check out all the gametimes for next week. You dont want to miss out on this amazing and spectaculous thing known as Space Cowboys softball. **** Space Cowboys Paraphernalia **** Over the weekend, one of the SPace Cowboy fans brought it to the attention of everyone in the Cowboys family that she had come into possesion of some Space Cowboys Paraphernalia in the form of a keychain. Christina Batsche was doing a few searches on the internet and came across a company that can make items, such as keychains, with your desired design. Since the organization was so bulled over with this discovery, they wanted to give you, the loyal Space Cowboy fans the opportunity to get your own. You will find, attatched to this edition of you occasional reading a picture ofthe front and back of this keychain. It should be the exact size, which is a little large for a "keychain", but could be used in other ways. If you are interested in receiving one for yourself please contact us here via email at occasionalorbiter@hotmail.com. THe price would be approzamatly eight (8) or nine (9) dollars ($). If you would like to browse the site for yourself, it can be found at http://www.BTMcreations.com. **** Cowboys Fan Club of the South **** It appears that the Space Cowboys are now starting to finnaly get the national recognition that they deserve, and all because of one loyal fan who has never set foot in the Space Cowboys arena. Mr. Jeff Brinkman, brother of star Kevin Brinkman and that other Brinkman, has been showing some love for the Space Cowboys as he attends school in New Orleans. He has alreadyt begun a petition for the Space Cowboys, and not the Charlotte Hornets to move into the arena in the downtown area. And it appears he is getting quite a response. We here at the Occasional Orbiter, on behalf of everyone in the Space Cowboys organization would just like to take this opppotunity to thank Mr. Brinkman and encourage him to keep up the good work. And maybe in time, the elder Brinkman brother, whose name will not be mentioned, will learn how to be as loyal to the organization as his two brothers. Thank You Jeffrey Brinkman! **** News and Notes **** Injury Report: No....It appears that several records and/or streaks were broken last week. Jeremy Jeffries once again set a record for recoring double digits for the fourth consecutive game. Michael Ash broke his streak of single digit scoring at four by putting sixteen pointsin the loss. But the most amazing of all the goings on in last weeks game was one Kewvi Brinkman. Mr. Brinkman, who was making his triumphant return to the Space Cowboys after playing with Louisville affiliate Earth Cowboys, failed to attempt a field goal the entire game. While that is not a "record", this is a very unlikely happening as Kevin "the gun" Brinkman, is not known to pass up many open looks....It appears the 'boys will be playing at "full stregnth" this week for the first time all season. They had been waiting on the return of Mr. Brinkman, but since his return other 'oys have missed tie due to injury and personal reasons. Everyone is expected to be present and play at this weeks contest....The 'boys would like to thank fan Ben Young for making it out to the "big arena by the highway" for the thrid consecutive week after returning from his schooling. That will be all for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter. Please excuse us for our tardiness, but dont forget to check us out on the web at http://www.geocities.com/spaceranch2001.
