THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi, hello and welcome once again fellow Cowboys of the Space variety to this delayed edition of your occaisonal reading. **** No "Big Man", No "W" **** The Space Cowboys dropped their third consecutive game last Tuesday night to the "thuggy thuggs" of Famous Dave's sixty-six (66) to sixty-one (61). The 'boys were on the wrong side of things from the beginnning when it was learned just moments before tipoff that "big man" Ben Keene would not be present for the battle on the court due to academic constraints. And although it was not the best news the team could have heard, we here at the Occasional Orbiter on behalf of the entire team would like to applaud this young scholar for the time and dedication he is putting into his studies. But we would also like to remind him that it would be in his best interest to not let this travesty happen again or he will no longer be known as "Big" man Ben Keene! As for how the rest of the 'boys faired, it was not a pretty basketball contest to say the least. It was not until six (6) minutes into the game that they attempted a two (2) point field goal and only attempted a mere thirteen (13) for the entire game. They did however, manage to shoot a near record amount of three (3) point field goals on their way to the disappointing loss. This is partly attributed to the absence of the "big man" on the block. Granted that he does not exactly take a plethora of shots, but Mr. Keene defintely keeps the defense honest on the inside and doesn't let them cheat on the outside shooters. Also without him the lane was clogged with defenders to minimize the slashing and whathaveyou. Even with the many three (3) points shot taken enough were falling to keep the 'boys in the game, especially in the second half. Guard Michael Ash continued his hot shooting knocking down six (6) of the eight (8) shots he attempted from beyond theh arc. But in the end it was too little. Some missed conversions from close in ended up being the difference in this one as the 'boys failed to completely close the gap and lost their third straight game after beginning the season with two (2) victories. **** Box Score February 12th, 2002 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP K.Lubbers 10 1 6 0 4 0 0 2 Iles 11 1 4 1 3 0 0 3 N.Lubbers 23 7 18 3 10 1 2 18 Jeffries 24 5 11 4 10 0 0 14 Ash 30 8 15 8 14 0 0 24 Keene 44 - - - - - - - Totals 142 22 54 16 41 1 2 61 41% 39% 50% Attendance: 4 (Batsche, Goetz, Kidd, Misty) Season Attendance: 25 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Christina Batsche **** Next Game Tuesday February 19th, 2002 **** The Space Cowboys will next be in action tonight, Tuesday February 19th at 10 P.M. The 'boys will be looking to end their three (3) game skid against the Winnelson "thuggy thuggs", whom they defeated fifty-four (54) to thirty-six (36) in the only other meeting. So come on out to the "big arena by the highway" for what is bound to be some fantabular basketball. Doors will open at 9:45 with pregame festivities already underway. **** Space Cowboys II **** The second coming of the Space Cowboys has finnaly come to an end. After ten (10) games of what we hesitate to call "basketball", the season has been completed. The "'boys" finished with a very Cowboy like four (4) and six (6) record in a less the competetive league. They finished out the season Sunday night, February 17th with their worst showing yet. They fell by more than thiry (30) points to a less the average "Gates Rubber" team. When asked to comment on the completion of the league, the 'boys simply asnwered, "thank God." **** News and Notes **** Injury Report: After taking a hard fall in last week's defeat, Dave Iles appears to be 100% and ready for tonights game. Jeremy Jeffries' knee is still not 100%, but he will be in the lineup once again for the 'boys. Nick Lubbers turned an ankle in a pickup game, but also will be in the lineup for the "beatup" boys....Michael Ash, once again scoring in double figures extended his streak to 10 consecutive games of doing so. **** Acknowledgment from Kevin Brinkman **** I am writing to thank the Orbiter for the concern that was shown to me during my illness. It truly meant alot to know that everyone was thinking about me. The thing that pleased me the most was the fact that the Orbiter wasn't afraid to expose Buddy Lee. It is very important to let everyone know what type of person Buddy Lee really is. I pray that whenever you are in the training room you look over your shoulder to make sure that Buddy isn't there. He may look harmless, but it is obvious that he only has bad intentions. Thanks for everything. Kevin **** Breaking Buddy Lee News **** It a story that has now been broken wide open, it appears that Mr. Brinkman along with us here at the Occasional Orbtier were wrong with out accusations of Buddy Lee. Mr. Lee was apprehended late last Thursday. It turns out that his disappearance after the KBI (Kevin Brinkman Incident) was due to the fact that he knew who the ral culprit was; a jealous brother. That's right, Buddy Lee is innocent! upon his capture he turned over his evil twin brother Fella Lee, along with the evidence to convict him. Fella Lee is the lesser known of the Lee brothers. He has been seen in the past in a few commercials for the Leo jeans company, but was always outdone by the more popular Buddy. This crime was nothing more than sibling rivalry. Fella just could not handle the Buddy had successfully established himself as a pillar in the Space Cowboys comunity, after he himself was dismessed from the "thuggy thugg" oragnization for "behavior unbecoming a thugg." The diabalicle Fella Lee thought his plan through thoroghly. It took months for him to develope the perfect virus to infect Mr. Brinkman with, one that would puzzle all in the medical field. In the end Kevin would prevail and Fella will payt his debt to society by doing some hard time. Mr. Kevin Brinkman has returned to the Louisville earth Cowboys and has begun to practice with them. His return to the lineup is sketchy, but inevitable. **** Apology to Buddy Lee **** We here at the Occasional Orbiter on behalf of everyone in the Space Cowboys organization would like to take this oppportunity to express our deepest apologies to Buddy Lee for all that has happened in the past few weeks. We would also like to thank him for doing the heartwrenching and turning in his own flesh and blood. Your job with the Space Cowboys is something that will always be here for you. We our lucky to have such a dedicated little man on our staff and hope that you will continue to be a mentor to the impresionable youth that come through our organization. That will be all for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter, but keep your eyes peeled for the next edition.
