THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi, hello and welcome fellow Cowboys of the Space variety, to this exhialrating edition of your occasional reading. **** 'Boys Start Season With "W" **** The Space Cowboys could not have started off the Winter Season any better than they did Tuesday night at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. They convincingly defeated the "thuggy thuggs" of Famous Dave's eighty-four (84) to seventy-four (74) with the hot shooting of a few 'boys. You heard it hear first, "Look for both "fat guards" to improve on last seasons numbers. Michael Ash finished strong and has continued to work on his game in the offseason. Jeremy Jeffries struggled last season, but has also been working on his game this offseason and is bound and determined to be a "large" contributor to the offense. Mr. Jeffries health is also progressing. His right knee, which was injured at the close of the Summer Season, is still not 100%, but is stronger now with the month long break...." That is exactly what got the home team this victory. These "fatties" were in their perverbial "groove" right from the "get go". In the first half, after Mike Ash missed his initial three 93) point attempt, he continued on to make his next five (5) consecutive three (3) point baskets. Jeremy Jeffries made his first four (4) attempts from behind the arc. Overall the 'boys shot an "incredulous" 55% (11/20) on their three (3) point baskets, just in the first half. Their overall numbers in the first half were even more impressive. They shot an amazing 56% (18/32) altogether, giving them a comfortable fourty-seven (47) to twenty-eight (28) lead at intermission. It was just a matter of time, but the 'boys cooled off a little to begin the second period of play. A little more "tenacious" defense on behalf of the "thuggy thuggs" and some open shots that just weren't falling trimmed the lead down to single digits. But in the end, the home team would stand tall, and Michael Ash and Jeremy Jeffries would leave with career games scoring twenty-seven (27) and twenty-six (26) points respectively. The great play of thee two plyers somewhat overshadowed the triumphant return of Dave Iles to the Space Cowboy family. Mr. Iles had a solid game as well. Although he did not compile a multitude of points, he did however play some solid defense and pull down more than his fair share of rebounds. The team as a whole really performed "fabular and spectaculous". From "Big man" Ben Keene and his solid "non fouling" defense to Keith Lubbers and his six (6) points, which is better than his zero (0) for sixteen (16) start to the Fall Season. The Space Cowboys look to have found themselves in the offseason and are ready to play some basketball and compete once again for the Sports of All Sorts Tuesday Night Basketball League Championship. **** Next Game Tuesday January 15th, 2002 **** The 'boys will be in action once again next Tuesday, January 15th at Sports of All Sorts in Florence.
