THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi, hello and welcome to this edition of your exhilarating occasional reading. **** Cowboys Drop Fourth of Season **** The Space Cowboys dropped their fourth (4th) game of the Fall Season last Tuesday before a record crowd of eighteen (18). They fell to the Affordable Overhead "thugg e. thuggs" seventy-seven (77) to fifty-five (55). It was a struggle for the home team right from the beginning with no one finding their shot. After falling behind early, the 'boys could do nothing to get themselves back in the game. Not only were the shots not falling, but stupid mistakes kept them out it. There were many unforced turnovers which led to easy layup for the "thugg e thuggs". Also, this loss drops the 'boys out of the playoff hunt. Now with a record of three (3) wins and four (4) losses the home team has been mathematically eliminated from the postseason, as only the top four (4) of the ten (10) teams in the league are eligable. There were a few bright spots for the 'boys in this loss. Guard Michael Ash once again stepped up and scored in double figures for the fourth straight game with twelve (12) points, coming on over 50% shooting again. Also, Keith Lubbers tied his best offensive performance of the season with seven (7) points on two (2) of three (3) shooting and perfect three (3) of three (3) shooting from the free throw line. Jeremy Jeffries triples his offensive output from last week, making a field goal and scoring three (3) points. **** Letter of Apology **** We recently recieved this letter from one member of the Space Cowboys: Dear Space Cowboys and loyal fans, I am writing with my deepest apologies about making you sit through such a horrific display of basketball. I know that I was brought up from the Earth Cowboys for one reason---to bring positive energy and score a few points. I am not sure that I did either very well. I know that my scoring output was below what I personally was excepting and I know that my teammates were excepting a little bit more. As far as being a spark off the bench, that really didn't happen either. You know I am having an off night when this happens, so in light of this I am demoting myself back to the Earth Cowboys. Although my contract states that I can stay up with the big boys, I think that it would be better for me to move back down. I would like to thank everyone for this opportunity of a life time to play with such a great franchise. I just hope that the next time I put on my S.C. jersey the outcome will be better. Have a great Holiday season. Your Space Cowboy at Heart, Kevin P. The 'boys will be taking on the Camel Toe "thuggy thuggs". As with every other team in the league, there is nothing known of the "thuggy thuggs", other than their record after three (3) games was two (2) and one (1). The record for their other four games reamains a mystery. The 'boys will be looking a victory to finish with a respectable .500 record at four (4) and four (4). If you're thinking it seems that this season went awfully quick, you're right. Due to unkmnown circumstances this season was shortened down to eight (8) games from the normal (10). This is not neccesarily a bad move in terms of how it affects the Space Cowboys. With more than one of the regulars struggling to find their shot, it will give them a couple weeks to regroup and start anew when the Winter season begins. Doors will open at 5:30 with pregame festivities beggining at 5:31. **** Special Thanks to Fans **** We here at the Occasional Orbiter would like to thank everyone who "stepped up to the plate" in our challenge to attend last weeks game. A single game record eighteen (18) loyal fans were present. Although they did not see the a very solid fundamental basketball contest, we hope taht in even losing the 'boys are entertaining enough to keep you comin out to the "big arena by the highway". **** News and Notes **** All is well and good on the injury front....Unconfirmed reports have been coming out of the Space Cowboys front office involving a University of Cincinnati recruit being added to the roster. Although the move would defintly improve the 'boys, it is still just a rumor....Also circulating are rumors of the return of former 'boy Mike Shuitt. Mike would defintly solidify the inside game, and if Scott Trame does not return, as is feared, he would be a much needed addition....The winner of the Kevin Brinkman Orange Lanyard Essay Contest has been chosen, but will not be mentioned until we receive a copy of the winning essay to publish (please send, Kevin)....Michael Brinkman, this is your official notice: Wear your Space Cowboy orange and "tear away" pants if present for tomorrow's basketball contest. That will do it for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter, don't forget to attend the final game of the Fall Season, tomorrow, November 27th, at 6 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence.
