THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi, hello and welcome once again fellow Cowboys of the Space variety, it is again time for your occasional reading. **** 'Boys Pull Off Huge Upset **** "Cowboys Win! Cowboys Win!" That was the call heard from Hagit Limore on 2327 FM Cowboy radio when the final horn sounded Tuesday night. The Space Cowboys had done the impossible, defeated the BSM "really good basketball players", sixty (60) to fifty-nine (59), giving them their first loss of the season. This was a close game the entire way, surprisingly with the home team holding the lead for the majoirty of that time. Things were going well for thhe 'boys from the beginning. That is to say they were making some shots. If these fellas come out firing... and hitting, the opposition better watch out. After losing the tip on a "smart play" by Scott Trame, who was going against a man twice his size, the team quickly regrouped and grabbed the early three (3) to two (2) lead, and would not relinquish it for the remainder of the half. They went into the locker rooms with a thirty-one (31) twenty-four (24) lead. And man were these guys pumped. Although they always show up to play and do have confidence in themselves. Coming into this game there was little doubt as to what the final outcome was supposed to be. Outsized and outmanned, the home team was almost certain they were going to be blown out of the water. This just goes to show what this fine group of Space Cowboys can do when they get down and just play some basketball. The second half was a lot of the same. The score went a little more back and forth. When the 'boys started to get pressed they were rattled a little. BSM quickly got themselves right back in the thick of things. It all came down to the wire. The Space Cowboys were down fifty-nine (59) to fifty five (55) Michael "clutch" Ash pulled up from the corner to knock down the biggest three (3) of his life. That pulled them to within one point with time winding down. The 'boys went on to regain possession of the ball with about eighteen (18) seconds to play. Scott Trame gets the ball inside and goes up with it. The layup is missed, but the BSM big guy is called for goaltending and the Space Cowboys take the lead with ten (10) seconds remaining. On the ensuing possession BSM ends up with the ball on the block and is fouled on the floor. With just seconds remaining they have one last chance to regain the lead and leave undefeated. It is a "one and one" bonus situation. The first shot comes up short and Scott Eibel pulls it down and is fouled with 0.7 seconds left to clinch the victory! When all was said and done it was surprising to see the shooting percentages for the 'boys. It was thought they were having a good shooting game, but thiry-six (36) percent (%) is nothing compared to their fifty-six (56) in last weeks victory. So it was not the shooting of their life that one this game, it was rebounding. There was hustle all over the floor, but when a shot went up, everyone was looking for someone to box out. Scott's Trame and Eibel did a tremendous job of keeping the biggest member of BSM off the boards, and everyone else just crashed them. Sure, he got his number of rebounds, both offensively and defensivly, but they did not let one man kill them. This victory was a complete team effort. The Scott's got their points and a plethora of rebounds. "Big man" Ben Keene, although he fouled out, played solid defense while contributing a few baskets as well. Jeremy Jeffries drove them crazy on defense and hit a key free throw down the stretch. Keith Lubbers also palyed nie defense and drew some fouls on the offesnsive side of the ball to force the 'boys into the bonus. And Michael Ash. It seems he has finnaly come out of hibernation. After having one (1) double-digit performance in his last seventeen (17) games. His thirteen (13) points Tuesday night gives him three (3) in a row. He has provided the much need spark. We just hope it can continue through the reaminder of the season and into the playoffs. **** Box Score November 13th, 2001 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP K.Lubbers 10 1 4 1 3 1 3 4 Eibel 11 5 14 2 7 0 2 12 N.Lubbers 23 6 13 5 9 0 0 17 Jeffries 24 0 9 0 8 1 2 1 Ash 30 5 9 2 4 1 1 13 Keene 44 2 4 0 0 0 0 4 Trame 45 4 11 0 2 1 2 9 Toals 187 23 64 10 30 4 10 60 36% 30% 40% Attendance: 5 (Batsche, Keene, Kidd, Mmrrr, Williams) Season Attendance: 34 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Jessica Kidd **** Next Game Tuesday November 20th, 2001 **** The Space Cowboys next exhilarating basketball contest will take place next Tuesday, November 20th, at 7 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. The 'boys will be taking on the "thuggy thuggs" of Affordable Overhead and with a victory will look to move above the .500 mark with four (4) wins and three (3) losses. But with what has been seen of the "thuggy thuggs" they appear to be "one tough cookie". It just may take the same kind of performance as last night to knock off these guys, but now, if ever the 'boys are up to the task. We here at the Occasional Orbiter would like to apologize for the bad information given in the last edition. IT as stated that the ever popular Kevin P. Brinkman would be present for the game last night. Obviously he was not. There was some confusion at the news desk, but it had now been settled and the proper information is available. Kevin Brinkman will make his first appearance of the season next Tuesday the 13th. The details have been worked out and everything is in place. You will once again be able to see the "stud" number 20, in the sexy Space Cowboys orange. Also, being as he was not present for last night's game, the Win Kevin Brinkman's Orange Lanyard essay Contest has been extended. manyt entries have been recieved, but if you forgot to submit yours, this is your lucky day. You will now have until 7:47 next Monday night the 19th to get you entries in. That is a twenty-four (24) to twenty-seven (27) worde essay explaining why you want the very lanyard Mr. Brinkman carries with him for several months and what it means to you. So don't hestitate and get left out for hte second time. Take this opportunity to get a very "priceless" piece of Space Cowboy memorabilia. But that is not the only reason to get "yo ass" out to the Sports of All Sorts Arena this week. Sure there is always "fundamental basketball" and now you can win a very special gift, but this week we've "cooked up" even more. Since Thanksgiving is just days away from this basketball contest we are going to have our very own Space Cowboys Thanksgiving. That's right, prior to "tipoff" there will be an entire Thanksgiving meal for all those in attendance. But there is just one catch. It is a bit of a contest in itself. One on one, you and your favorite 'boy will face off in a turkey showdown. Who can eat the most and who can do it the fastest. You will be matched up with one of the members of the team and be given a specified amount of time and see who can d othe most damage to their turkey and gravey amd mashed potatoes and dressing and whatnot. Whoever beats their Space Cowboy will recieve their meal for free. If you lose, you owe $127.84 to the Space Cowboy Give Us all Yo Money Fund. So come on out to Sports of All Sorts next Tuesday the 13th. It will be a fabular and spectaculous time. Doors will open at 6:30 with all the pregame festivities beggining at 6:32. **** News and Notes **** We would like to take the time to thank Megan Williams for making the trip down from her new residence in Dayton, OH to witness the unbeleiveable game....Michael Brinkman wasn't there....Attendance seems to be down a sizeable amount this season. Though six games in the summer league the 'boys had drawn fifty-nine (59) opposed to the thirty-four (34) they're now. It is slightly higher than the Spring season's twenty-six (26) but we would still like an improvment, so come on out and support the home team....We also would like to welcome the newest subscribor to the Occasional Orbiter, Linda Shoellman, Space Cowboy fan from Texas and aunt of three of the 'boys (the Lubbers and Mr. Trame). Welcome aboard! That will be all for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter. We want to hear from you, email us any question comments or suggestions at occasionalorbiter@hotmail.com. Also, don't forget ro check us out on the web at http://www.geocities.com/spaceranch2001. Editor-in-Chief Nick "Stud" Lubbers Proud to be a Space Cowboy
