THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER October 10, 2001 Vol.45 Hey, whas happenin fellow Cowboys of the Space variety, it is once again time for your occasional reading. **** 'Boys Drop Season Opener **** The Space Cowboys failed to start off the season with a victory, as they fell to the JTC "thuggy thuggs" sixty-one (61) to fifty-five (55). It was a vicious battle right down to the buzzer, but in the end the home team was just unable to put it together. The two newest 'boys, Scott Trame and Scott Eibel, both played solid games, but didn't provide the extra spark that was needed. Although the team didn't play as they had hoped, this is one game that they still should have ended up with the "W". It basically came down to free throws, which looked bad from the "get go". Mr. Trame, who got to the line "early and often", was one of the 'boys who did not make the most of his "free" throws, making just five (5) of twelve (12) and "airballing" three (3). Scott wasn't the only one not to connect. The team shot a paltry fourteen (14) of thirty-two (32), fourty-four (44%), from the charity strike. If they shoot a respectable sixty-five (65) percent (%), the Space Cowboys escape with a one (1) point victory. We can only hope that this was a one time deal, and not a sign of things to come. **** Box Score October 9th, 2001 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP K.Lubbers 10 0 5 0 4 1 2 1 Eibel 11 2 8 1 3 3 4 8 N.Lubbers 23 5 10 2 4 0 0 12 Jeffries 24 2 7 1 3 3 6 8 Ash 30 2 5 1 3 2 3 7 Keene 44 2 5 0 0 0 5 4 Trame 45 5 6 0 0 5 12 15 Toals 187 18 46 5 17 14 32 55 39% 29% 44% Attendance: 4 1/2 (Batsche, Keene, Kidd, Lubbers, Lenihan*) Season Attendance: 4 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Christina Batsche **** Next Game Tuesday October 16th, 2001 **** The Space Cowboys will be in action once again next Tuesday October 16th at 7 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. They will be taking on the "thugg e. thuggs" of 84 Lumber. Little is known of the "thugg e. thuggs" other than the fact that they were involved in a "grudgematch" with the PWA Thuggy Thuggs prior to the start of the 'boys gmae on Tuesday. At the time being, it seems safe to say that the home team should have a chance at this game, as PWA has not historically been known as a "good" basketball team, and they have lost a few key players. So get yourself, and everyone you know out to Sports of All Sorts in Flornec, next Tuesday, October 16th to see the Space Cowboys and "thugg e. thuggs" duel it out in week two. Doors will open at 6:46 with pregame festivites following at approxamatly 6:54. **** News and Notes **** Injury Report: It appears that "fat guard" Jeremy Jeffries knee is in good condition. Mr. Jeffries, who injured his knee, in the Summer postseason play, was in action for hte majority of the contest on Tuesday with no ill effects. Newly aquired Scott Eibel is also in good condition after turning an ankle in the season opener. It is swollen and discolored, but he should be ready to go by Tuesday....If you were at the game and thought there just seemed to be something mmissing, you were right. Michael Brinkman, who at one point was the most loyal fan out there, missed yet another Space Cowboy basketball contest. Mr. Brinkman is steadily dropping down the list. At the top of that list at the present time is none other than "#1 Fan" Larry Keene. That will be all for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter. Keep your eyes peeled for the "go 'round". Remember as always, we want to hear from you. Anything from what the Space Cowboys mean to you, or just your take on the most recent game. Any tips and pointers.
