THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Sunday September, 30 2001 Vol. 43 Hi, hello and welcome fellow Cowboys of the Space variety to this late edition of your occasional reading. **** 'Boys Win Tournament Opener **** Last Tuesday the Space Cowboys looked like they were playing for something more than just teh victory. They started out and continues to play inspired basketball throughout their first round victory over the Nit Wit "thuggy thuggs" seventy-five (75) to sixty-eight(68). Guard Ted Arlinghaus who had missed the previous four 94) games, which all had been losses showed up for this critcal matchup. Mr. Arlinghaus played somewhat differnt than in his previous stint with the 'boys. No, he still took about half the 'boys shots, but beleive it or not he made more than half of them. Absolutly remarkable. Overall the team played pretty solid ball for thirty-five minutes. The last five were somewhat of an adventure, as they usually are. This team just does not know how to play with a lead. They squandered a twnety (20) point lead, but still ended up on top, due to some clutch free throw shooting by Mr. Arlinghaus, and Mr. Jeremy "J-Fat" Jeffries. With this victory the Space Cowboys would step off the court just momentrily to take on the Holt Thuggs. **** Box Score September 25th, 2001 Game 1 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Resing 00 1 4 0 3 0 0 2 K.Lubbers 10 0 3 0 0 2 2 2 Brinkman 20 - - - - - - - N.Lubbers 23 4 6 2 4 0 0 10 Jeffries 24 2 6 0 3 5 7 9 Arlinghaus 25 11 25 4 13 13 18 39 Ash 30 3 6 1 3 0 0 7 Keene 44 2 3 0 0 0 0 4 Rasp 45 - - - - - - - Toals 221 23 53 7 26 20 27 68 43% 27% 74% Attendance: 7 (Batsche, Brinkman, Keene, Kidd, Kirst, Lori, Rasp) Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Christina Batsche **** 'Boys Fall in Semis **** The Space Cowboys hung with them for the majority ofthe game, but in the the Holt Thuggs were just too much for the Space Cowboys as they fell seventy-seven (77) to sixty-three (63). After falling behind early, the 'boys made a little run to get themselves right back in the game. Throughout the majority of the contst the deficit was kept between the eight (8) and eleven (11) point area, just within striking distance. Late in the second (2nd) half the lead was cut down even more, to sixty-five (65) to sixty (60), but that's as close as they would get. The Thuggs would go on a twelve (12) to three (3) run to close things out and put the Space Cowboys away for good. Some rumors began to circulate that if Kevin Brinkman would have made the trip up from Louisville for the game, the outcome may have been slightly different. But once it was realized Mr. Brinkman has no game it was a moot point. So, one again the Space Cowboys fall short of the elusive Sports of All Sorts Tuesday Night Championship. It will not hold them down though. These 'boys are dediated to one day coming home with this grand championship. **** Box Score setpember 25th, 2001 Game 2 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Resing 00 0 4 0 4 1 2 1 K.Lubbers 10 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Brinkman 20 - - - - - - - N.Lubbers 23 7 14 3 8 0 0 17 Jeffries 24 1 3 0 1 2 2 4 Arlinghaus 25 14 22 5 10 3 3 36 Ash 30 0 5 0 4 0 0 0 Keene 44 2 4 0 0 1 2 5 Rasp 45 - - - - - - - Toals 221 24 52 8 27 7 9 63 46% 30% 78% Attendance: 4 (Batsche, Keene Kirst, Lori) Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Christina Batsche **** Next League Set *** The Space Cowboys already hav a date set for the start of the next league. They will begin play Tuesday October 5th. The time for the game will be forth coming. There will be a few roster moves for the start of the season. Longtime 'boy Dan Resing will be removed due to personal reasons. The 'boys would like to thank Mr. Resing for a great run and let him know he is welcome back any time. Also, Mr. Ted Arlinghaus has been removed. Kevin Brinkman will remain on the active roster, although an appearance is not eminent. With these spots opening the 'boys have also made a few moves to fill them. Emergency Replacement Keith Lubbers is that no more, as he has been added to the permanet roster. The 'boys also picked up Scott Trame on the free gnect market along with one of his fellas, name unknown. These two (2) additions specifically will help the team the most. Both of the palyers are inside "post palyers". They are will compliment "big man" Ben Keene, nicely in the low block. They just may be the piece of the puzzle that wil get them the League Championship they have been searching for. **** News and Notes **** Injury Report: In the second game Tuesday night, fat guard Jeremy Jeffries "tweaked" his knee. His status is unknown for the next league....Michael Brinkman did make it out to the first game of the tournament, but didn't feel the need to stick around for the second one.
