THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi, hello and welcome once again fellow Cowboys of the Space variety, it's once again time for your occasional reading. **** Space Cowboys are "Good" **** THe Space Cowboys continued their winning ways Tuesday night with a victory over the Marsh "thugg e. thuggs" sixty-four (64) to foury-six (46). This win stretches the 'boys record to a remarkable six (6) and O (0). The team was not on top of their game to start things out though. They started out by missing their first eight (8) shots while falling behind seven (7) to nothing (0). But that was not a deficit the 'boys couldn't overcome. A few made shots and the gates were opened. The home team was making and missing shots right and left, while the "thugg e. thuggs" could get nothing to fall. The Cowboys would go on a thirty-two (32) to thirteen (13) run to finish out the half with a thirty-two (32) to twenty (20) lead. In the end the Space Cowboys scored more points than the "thugg e. thuggs", thus the came away with yet another victory. There were however a few surprises in the second (2nd) half. The biggest one being guard Ted Arlinghaus shot selection. NO, he wasn't "runnin and gunnin". Mr. Arlinghaus displayed his more unselfish side by taking only three (3) shots in the second (2nd) half, opposed to the thirteen (13) thrown up in the first (1st) half of play. He missed all three (3). On the other hand, "big man" Ben Keene also took three (3) shots in the second half, a plethora for this particular 'boy, but he connected on all of his attempts. Also having a solid game was guard Dan Resing, who sank a three (3) pointer after missing his first nine (9) attempts of the season. He followed his first (1st) with his second (2nd) shortly after. Along with Mr. Resing, John Moore had a solid performance making his debut for the 'boys with a six (6) points. **** Box Score August 21st, 2001 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Resing 00 2 5 2 5 1 2 7 Brinkman 20 - - - - - - - Lubbers 23 7 14 4 9 0 1 18 Jeffries 24 3 9 2 6 0 0 8 Arlinghaus 25 3 16 3 13 2 3 11 Ash 30 3 12 2 9 0 0 8 Keene 44 3 4 0 0 0 1 6 Moore 11 3 9 0 3 0 0 6 Toals 177 24 69 13 45 3 7 64 35% 29% 43% Attendance: 12 (Arlinghaus, Batsche, Darpel, Goetz, Kaylor, Kidd Keene, Kirst, K.Lubbers, J.Lubbers, Sargent, Unknown) Season Attendance: 59 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Keith Lubbers **** Next Game Tuesday, August 28, 2001 **** The Space Cowboys will next be in action, Tuesday, August 28th, at 6 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. They will be striving to extend their winning streak to seven (7) straight, and will be doing so against their toughest oppponent yet, the Holt "thuggy thuggs". The "thuggs" are the only other team who have yet to be defeated. They contain all the integral components of a winning team: good basketball players. So it is going to be a "battle of the unbeatens" next week when the 'boys take the floor and what better to celebrate such a huge game than yet another "Orange Lanyard Giveaway Night". That's right, the fourth (4th) lucky fan in attendance with recieve their own personal orange lanyard, autographed by the entire Space Cowboy Team. This is definitly a collectors item. Not only will the lanyard have the signatures of 'boys such as Jeremy "i win" Jeffries, and Dan "corky" Resing, but it will also contain the hard to find autographes of the likes of Michael Brinkman, Keith Lubbers, John Rasp, and even John Moore, not to mention the recently demoted Kevin Brinkman. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could only happen once in a lifetime. If your are any sort of Space Cowboy fan, this is a night you won't want to miss. The two (2) giants of the Tuesday night league square off for the undefeated record and "bragging rights". Add a free autographed Orange Lanyard to the "great basketball" and you ahve one hell of a night. So don't miss out, and get to the "big arena by the highway early". Doors open at 6:28 with pregame festivities beginning at 6:35. **** Space Cowboys Studly Poll **** The results are in!!! Votes for the "Studliest Cowboy Poll" were coming in non-stop, all the way until the polls closed yesterday at 8 P.M. And we have to say, this is the closest race since the Gore-Bush debacle. And as in that particular election, we did have some technical difficulties. All votes cast in Afganistan, Slovakia, and the sorthern half of the small island of Komandorskiye, off the coast of Russia, will have to be voided due some "hanging chads". And now for the answer to the questoin that has been boggling our minds for years. It's a tie! After carefully counting and recounting, and counting the votes once more, it has been concluded that Mr. Benjamin Keene and Mr. Nicholas Lubbers are "The Studliest Cowboys". With the amount of responses that we recieved, it is impossible to pick just a couple of the "reasonings" for the votes. But we did choose one, that we thought was intriguing. As was stated before, will can not reveal the author of this particular "reasoning". It is very simple and to the point, it goes as follows: "#44....of course, it's genetic!" Congratualtions to the two (2) Studliest Cowboys! **** News and Notes **** The Space Cowboys were informed of whoat could be some very bad news, Tuesday night. Guard, Ted Arlinghaus shocked everyone by announcing that the game would probbaly would be his last. Apparently, Mr. Arlinghaus was drafted into some sort of Softball League, which will be taking place on Tuesday night's as well. The 'boys pleaded that Ted, at least miss his first game in order for the team to be in tact for "battle of the unbeatens". His status is still up in the air...."Emergency Replacement" Keith Lubbers will be on "stndby" for this weeks game, pending Mr. Arlinghaus' decision....Kevin Brinkman was missed at the game, as no charges were taken....Long time fan Michael Brinkman, who was not to been found in the stands, did have an excuse and was cleared to miss, by Cowboy Management. **** Space Cowboys Softball Update **** The Space Cowboys Softball Team completed a double header last Firday night, and beleive it or not they were "semi-successful". In the opener, the 'boys were handed another "ten run rule" loss, in five innings. But in the second (2nd) of the two (2) games, the 'boys came out on top, sparked by a late inning home run by Jeremy Jeffries. He may be fat, but they kid is not "patient" at all. In fact, Mr. Jeffries, did in fact win. The 'boys will be in action once again this Firday night at the new Sports Complex at FOPA in Latonia. The "exhilarating" action will begin at 6:15. Gates will open at 5:57 with pregame festivities beginning at approxamamtly 6:03. **** Guest Column **** This week's edition of your occasional reading is featuring the first guest column from Ms. Megan Williams.
