The Occasional Orbiter -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday August 16, 2001 Vol. 31 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, hello and welcome, fellow Cowboys of the Space variety to this newly "reformatted" edition of your occasional reading. 'Boys are Unstopable The Space Cowboys improved to an undefeated five (5) and O (0) Tuesday night when they defeated the TBA "thuggy thuggs" fifty-eight (58) to fifty-six (56). This was yet another game that came down to the wire for the 'boys, but they were able to hang on and leave with the "W". They jumped out to the early lead and never really looked back. The "thuggy thuggs" did however keep within striking distance throughout the contest. The momentum seemed to change hands very frequently, but TBA didn't maintain control of the game long enough to gain the lead. This game was much of we have grown accustomed to from these particular "thuggy thuggs". There was much of the same "whining and crying" as there was in the past, along with the rough play that accompanies it. It seems this group of guys just can not take losing gracefully., as we've seen on a few occasions. The bright spots for the home team were pleniful. As always Ted Arlinghaus was the leading scroer, but he did it in a way we had not seen yet this season. Mr. Arlinghaus shot a respectable nine (9) of twenty-two (22) from the floor scoring just over half of the total output; defintly his best outing of the season. Also having his best outing of the season was "fat guard" Jeremy Jeffries. Mr. Jeffries did not take a "plethora" of shots from the field, but got it done from the free throw line, which isn't something he has done on a regular basis. Jeremy ended up with sixteen (16) points. One more "bright spot" for the 'boys was "big man" Ben Keene. Although Ben was very "destrought" over the cancelation of "BMBKBGN", he put all that aside to have a nice game on the defensive end and on the "boards". The 'boys will be looking to do the unthinkable and move to six (6) and O (0) against the Marsh "thugg e. thuggs". As with most of the opponent thus far this season, nothing is known of the "thugg e. thuggs". The home team will once again be looking for that second (2nd) man to step up. This week it was Jeremy Jeffries. It doens't even matter so much who it is, but one 'boy, whoever it may be, needs to step up and make some buckets. This team is very capable of beign known as one of the greatest Space Cowboy teams ever. If all the "piston" fire as one, the rest of this season will be one to remember. The "unstopaboys will be out in full force. All the other team can do, is just hope and pray that all the 'boys aren't "hitting" at once. So come on out to Sports of All Sorts in Florence, this Tuesday, August 21st, at 8 P.M. to witness the "unstopaboys" in their prime. This is deifntly an occasion taht you will be telling your grandchildren about. Doors will open at 7:37 with pregame fetivites beginning at approxamtly 7:54. Space Cowboys Studly Poll We here at the Occasional Orbiter would like to hear from some of our loyal readers. We have decided that it is time to make this "newsletter" more "interactive". So, in that spirit, we would like to find out who exactly is the "Studliest Cowboy". That's right. We want to hear from all of you. Every vote will count. All you have to do is simply email us at occasionalorbiter@hotmail.com and int he subject line put "My Studliest Cowboy". Within you entry you need to include the name and number of your Cowboy choice and in twenty-five (25) words or less describe why, they are the "Studliest Cowboy." The paragraph isn't madatory, but "bits and pieces" will be chosen to accompany the results. All votes will be anonymously posted. Voting will be halted on Monday, August 20th, at 7:27 P.M. Absoultly no late votes will be counted. The results will be published in the next "full edition" of the Occasional Orbiter. New and Notes Tuesday's game could very will mark the end of the season for "little big man" Kevin Brinkman. His game has not improved at the rate that had been hoped, so it seems a demotion to the Louisville affiliate Earth Cowboys in inevitable.....On behalf of the Space Cowboys we would like to welcome to new fans to the "mix". Ms. Megan Williams and someone by the name of Ben Young both made their first appearances in the stands. Welcome to the family....Depending on the circumstances "emergency replacement" Keith Lubbers may be called into action once again this Tuesday. With the loss of Mr. Brinkman, the 'boys will have even less room to play with as far as attendance goes. In the worst case scneario "basketball player" Michael Brinkman will be called up to duty. So hope and pray that the home team doesn't suffer any serious injuries. Space Cowboys Softball Update The Space Cowboys Softball Team will be taking the field this Friday, after a "bye" week last week. They will be playinga doubleheader beginning at 6:15 at the new sports complex at FOPA in Latonia. The 'boys will be vying for their second (2nd) win in three (3) games after winning their first ever in a couble header a few weeks ago. This will definitelty be a good "tune up" for the upcoming tournament. That will do it for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter. As always all question, comments and suggestions can be emailed to us at occasionalorbiter@hotmail.com .
