THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi. Still, this is your occasional reading. **** Ho-Hum, Cowboys Win Again **** The Space Cowboys racked up another victory Tuesday night against the "thuggy thuggs" of Marty's Pub fifty-eight (58) to fifty-one (51). Once agai nthe Cowboys werein involved in a back and forth battle. It took a surge in the second (2nd) half for hte pulls to finnaly pull ahead and hold on to the lead. The game was also yet another "team effort". The biggest lift for the home team was defitnely the play a "big man" Ben Keene who put in ten (10) solid points on five (5) of six (6) shooting. Mr. Keene is not as well knownw for his offense as he is his defense, but he showed that he is not to be overlooked. When this guy gets into a "groove" good things will happen. The other "big lift" for the 'boys was the "hot shooting" of "fat guard" Mike Ash. Mr. Ash was a phenomenal four (4) of five (5) from beyond the arc, hitting a a couple in clutch situations. This just goes to show that basketball is a team sport and it takes more than a "star" to win ballgames. Even Jeremy "pudegball" Jeffries, had a few key points, along with Kevin Brinkman. Things are definitly going well for the 'boys when these to guys contribute. **** Box Score August 7th, 2001 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Resing 00 0 2 0 2 0 2 0 Brinkman 20 2 5 2 5 0 1 6 Lubbers 23 1 7 0 2 0 0 2 Jeffries 24 2 6 2 5 1 2 7 Arlinghaus 25 7 23 5 15 2 2 21 Ash 30 4 5 4 5 0 1 12 Keene 44 5 6 0 0 0 0 10 Toals 166 21 54 13 34 3 8 58 39% 38% 38% Attendance: 8 (M.Brinkman, CP, Goetz, Kaylor, Keene, Kidd, K.Lubbers, Sargent) Season Attendance: 35 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Keith Lubbers **** Next Game Tuesday August 14th, 2001 **** The Space Cowboys once again will be in actoin next Tuesday, August 14th, at 7 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. They will be taking on the TBA, "thugg e. thuggs". As with last week, nothing is known of the TBA's other than they are a basketball team in the Sports of All Sorts Tuesday night league and wil be playing at 7 this week. Tuesday night could possibly be a historic day for the Space Cowboys once again. It seems that every week a record is falling. A win against the "thugg e. thuggs" this week would ensure the 'boys at least a .500 record. This has only been done once before in the long history of the team, wehn they finished seven (7) and three (3) in the Sunday morning league. So come on out to Sports of All Sorts, Tuesday, August 14th, at 7 P.M. to see the "history making" Space Cowboys. But don't think that great basketball is the only reason to come to the contest. This week will mark the return of the most popular Cowboys "giveaway" ever. No, it's not Jeremy Jeffries "lard" giveaway, although there would be plenty to go around. Tuesday night will be "BMBKBHGN". That's right, "Big Man Ben Keene Bobblehead Giveaway Night". The first seven hundred and twenty-seven (727) fans in attendance will each receive the miniature likeness of Mr. Ben Keene. These dolls were all hand crafted specially for this night because Ben is not short or fat and does not have a big head. So, the mold used for the Jeremy Jeffries Bobblehead would be "misproportioned". So get to the arena early to grab your "mini-ben"!! Doors will open at 6:30 with pregame activities beginning at approxamatly 6:54. We do ask that the bobbleheads remain with the "original recipiant". We have heard stories of the Space Cowboys BobbleHeads collecting a "substancial" amount of money on the black market, but they are intended for the fans of the team. The value of a Spae Cowboy Bobblehead toa real Space Cowboy fan is priceless. **** News and Notes **** Ben Young: not worth mentioning....In Tuesday's game, "fat guard" Mike Ash failed to complete a "four (4) point play". Mr. Ash is still the only 'boy to have had a chance and complete one of these "four (4) point plays"....We here at the Occasional Orbiter have been informed that once newly "reaquired" guard Ted Arlinghaus returns to school ina a few weeks, that he will make the trip to Florence every Tuesday. ted will be accompanied by an even "newly" aquired 'boy John Moore, who will fill the roster sopt of Kevin Brinkman, althought he won't do ti very well....There have been rumors of a international flavor tothis Tuesday's game. It has been heard that Englishwomen Megan Williams will be making her first appearance at a Space Cowboys contest, we ask that Ms. Williams is welcomed with open arms....Speaking of welcomed with open arms, that's exactly what happened to Paul Brinkman in his first appearance to the arena. Mr. Brinkman was thought to be nringing some "hostile feelings" to the game, but all remained calm as he sat and enjoyed the "w" with his son. We hope to see you again soon Paul....It was nice to see long time fan Larry Keene back in the stands after making the sacrifice to the team last week....Don't forget to keep your eyes open for Hagit, as this mayt be the week she makes herself known personally to the Space Cowboys....And last but certainly least, Dan Resing has yet to connect on a three (3) point basket this season missing on all nine (9) of his attemps. Not the kind of "breakout" season the team was looking for. **** Space Cowboys Softball Update **** The Space Cowboys Softball team will have their best chance of the seasonto not lose a game tomorrow when they don't take the field due to a "bye". We would like to time this opootunity to extend an invitation to any member of the Cowboy entourage to submit a guest article. The writing does not have to be about any specific happening. It may be on your favorite member of the team, or just your experiences with the Space Cowboys. All articles are subject to the editors approval, and criticism. That will do it for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter. As always all questions, comments and suggestions can be emailed to us at occasionalorbiter@hotmail.com. Also remember to get inside the numbers of your favorite Space Cowboys at http://www.geocities.com/spaceranch2001, the internet home of the 'boys. Editor-in-Chief Nick "Stud" Lubbers wee eee wee eee
