THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi, hello and weocome to your exciting and exhilarating occasional reading. **** Cowboys Win Yet Again **** The Space Cowboys have one for the third consecutive time, tying their record for most wins in a row and setting ther record fro most wins to begin a season. The 'boys accomplished this feat by defeating the "thugg e. thugg" Hustlers seventy-four (74) to seventy-one (71). From the beginning it was all the home team, as they jumped out to an early lead. The lead was due to hot shooting by the entire team. The home team started out the game by making their first four (4) field goal attemps. Three (3) three (3) pointers and a two (2). The 'boys kept up their solid shooting to begin the second half. Ted Arlinghaus went on a run sinking three (3) of his five 95) thress along with a few drive to the hole. Add a Jeremy Jeffries bucket and they jumped out to a twenty (20) point lead. It is a good thing that lead was extended so much because down the stretch things began to "unravel". After holding a ten (10) point lead, with just over a minute to go, the 'boys let the "thugg e. thuggs" think they had a chance. Mike Ash missed a layup on a very "niiiiiiicee" pass from Mr. Jeffries. Missed conversions on "gimmees" and the inability to convert from the foul line gave the crowd of five (5) quite a scare. Not only were the Cowboys not playing smart on the offensive end, plus they were playing "stupid" defense. Allowing the Hustlers to get inside and convert while making contact. But in the end it was the Space Cowboys who prevailed to take their thrid straight game of the young season. It seems that Mr. Alringhaus and poor competition have given the team the lift that they have been looking for since finishing two (2) leagues ago eight (8) and four (4). **** Box Score July 31st, 2001 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Resing 00 - - - - - - - Brinkman 20 - - - - - - - N.Lubbers 23 7 13 0 5 0 0 14 Jeffries 24 4 10 2 5 0 0 11 Arlinghaus 25 11 31 5 15 3 6 34 Ash 30 3 10 2 7 0 0 8 Keene 44 1 5 0 0 3 6 5 K.Lubbers 10 1 2 0 1 0 0 2 Toals 166 27 71 9 33 7 15 74 33% 27% 47% Attendance: 5 (Batsche, Darpel, Glass, Kaylor, Kidd) Season Attendance: 27 Special Thanks to Scorekeeper Christina Batsche **** Next Game Tuesday August 7th, 2001 **** The Space Cowboys will be in aciton once again next Tuesday at 6 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. In their attempt to win a ridiculous fourth (4th) straight game, the 'boys will be taking on the "thuggy thuggs" of Marty's Pub. Once again, as most of these teams have never before been seen there is no scouting report avialable. This game is defifnlty one worth coming to see. Not only will be home team be vyinmg for an unprecidented fourth (4th) consecutive victory, but they will be looking to do so to move to a solid four (4) and "O" (0). With the lack of fan support for this past week we have a special deal to offer anyone who comes out the arena. Anyone who has attended a game in the past, or who should have been to a few and hasn't, and doesn't show up at this week's game will pay. That's right!! If you don't show up, each and every Space Cowboys will personally kick yo ass. No excuse will be good enough, not eve na plague of locust. So get yourself out to Sports of All Sorts next Tuesday at 6 P.M. or you'll be sorry. And you never know what more orange lanyards will be given away! Doors will open at 5:27 with pregame festivities beggining at approxamamtly 5:32. **** News and Notes **** The Ben Young once again turned up nothing last night. Mr. Young was contacted and did have a legitimate excuse. Hope that clears right up Ben!....Also missing from last night's game was Larry Keene. Mr. Keene made the ultimate sacrifice to the team. His son, "big man" Ben Keene, was given the "purple blob" as transportation to the game. Larry did this knowing full well that he would be unable to attend. This is the kind of loyalty expected from one of the most dedicated fans for the past few leagues. We'll be looking for you next week "LK"....Kevin Brinkman and Dan Resing, although neither will "make or break" the game, both will be return next week after recieving a "leave of absence" for yesterday's game. **** Space Cowboys Softball Upadte **** It appears that the losing has finnaly taken it's toll on the Space Cowboys Softball Team. They will be skipping town this weekend to avoid losing two (2) more games. We here at the Occasional Orbiter can't say we blame them either. You fellas just run, run like the wind. That will do it for this occasional reminder. As always, questions, comments and new subribors are welcome to email us at occasionalorbiter@hotmail.com.
