THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi, hello and welcome it's once again time for your exciting and exhilarating occasional reading. **** Cowboys Begin New League With Victory **** The Space Cowboys celebrated the long awaited, much anticipated Summer League with a sixty-three (63) to fifty-six (56) win over the "whiney thugg" Nit-Wits. The 'boys started out slowly as they fell to an early sixteen (16) to twelve (12) deficet. But then things really started to "roll" for the home team. Led by the smart "guard play" of newly reaquired Ted Arlinghaus, they went on a remarkable run to regain the lead at thirty-one (31) to sixteen (16). During this amazing run it seemed as though everyone was making contributions, not only on the ofensive end, but also by playing solid defense. A barrage of three pointers by the majority of the team, were accompanied by two (2) charges and the tenacious defense we've grown accustomed to by forward Kevin Brinkman. But the one person most responsible for the run would have to be Mr. Arlinghaus. The team didn't know what to expect from Ted after having not personally seeing him play for years now. He did nothing but impress during the 'boys nineteen (19) to nothing (0) run. He knocked down a couple three's (3's) along with having a career high in assists. His penetration really opened up the outside shooting for the rest of the team. Other than that little spurt, Ted wasn't the type of player that had been hoped. He shot a paltry thirty one percent (9/29) form the field, along with a putrid eightteen percent (3/17) from beyond the arc. All in all, there is much room for improvement, not only for Mr. Arlinghaus, but for all the Space Cowboys, as they struggled overall in the second half allowing the Nit-Wits to get back into the game. In the end they were able to hold them off, once again by the clutch free throw shooting of Ted, hitting four (4) straight in the last minute of the game. **** Box Score July 17th, 2001 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Resing 00 1 5 0 4 0 0 2 Brinkman 20 3 6 3 6 1 2 10 Lubbers 23 6 13 2 6 0 0 14 Jeffries 24 2 10 2 6 0 0 6 Arlinghaus 25 9 29 3 17 5 5 26 Ash 30 2 6 1 4 0 0 5 Keene 44 - - - - - - - Toals 166 23 69 10 40 6 7 63 33% 25% 86% Attendance: 8 (C.Arlinghaus, T.Arlinghaus, Barth, M.Brinkman Darpel, Kidd, K.Lubbers, Moore) Season Attendance: 8 Special Thanks To Scorekeeper Keith Lubbers **** Next Game Tuesday July 24th, 2001 **** The Space Cowboys will next be in action next Tuesday July 24th, at 9 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. The 'boys will be taking on the Sports of All Sorts "thugg e. thuggs" in their quest to extend their current win streak to an unprecidented two (2) games. Due to this being a new league there is no information on the "thugg e. thuggs". But that's no reason not to come out and support the home team next week. Not only will there be some "great basketball", but they're dead sexy too. Doors open at 8:36. Pregame festivities begin approxamatly 8:49. **** News and Notes **** We here at the Occasional Orbiter would like to express our apologies to Michael Brinkman for publicly questioning his loyalty when rumors begin to circulate that he would miss Tuesday's season opener. Not only was Mr. Brinkman present, he was loudly cheering the 'boys to victory. On behalf of all of the Soace Cowboys and all of us here, we want to thank you Michael, for making the games so enjoyable for everyone....Speaking of loyalty: long time fan Ben Young was not in the crowd for said season opener. After attending all of the game from the Spring League, Mr. Young must have decided he deserved a break. Not so Ben, you were missed and it will be hard to regain the trust of the team and everyone who supports them. And, Cowboy "big man" Ben Keene was also MIA at last night's contest. We hope this is a one time occurence for Mr. Keene and that he does not take after the "ex big man"....Congratulations to "fat gurad' Michael Ash who converted his only laup attempt in the game, the first time in his career Mr. Ash has shot one hundred percent (100%) from the block....The winner of this week's "Free Orang Lanyard Giveaway" was Jessica Kidd. **** Space Cowboys Softball Update **** The Space Cowboys Softball Team will take the field again this Friday night at 6:15 P.M. at the new sports complex at FOPA. The team will still be in search of it's first win and in trying to do so, send the game to it's full seven inning for just the third time. The first five (5) fans in attendance Friday night will each recieve one (1) high five from each of the Space Cowboys. So bring the family to see some fundamental softball and meet team.
