THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Hi, hello, and welcome, it's time once again for your occasional reading. **** Summer League Delayed Once Again **** It appears that the wait will be yet another week for the start of the Space Cowboys Summer League. The league, which had been scheduled to start this coming Tuesday, has been postponed for a second time. This time however, one of the 'boys had something to do with it. Thursday, of this past week, some of the team gathered at Sports of All Sorts to get in some practice. After a few games of "lighting it up" they decided to call it quits. it was at the time that Space Cowboy, Nick Lubbers, decided to take one last jump at the rim. Little did he know that this would be the last for that particular rim. That's right, the little six (6) foot four (4) inch one hundred fifty (150) pund monster we all know and love pretty much ripped the rim right off the backboard. Needless to say he was awestruck. Never before had he shown that kind of shear power. But the proof was there in the rim, hanging limp from the backboard. The management did come and survey the damage, putting the bill at apporxamatly four hundred (400) dollars ($). Also, at that time, they pushed the leagues back one more week, for fear of not having the rim replaced in time for the scheduled start just five days later. This is defintly a huge blow to the Space Cowboys because two (2) of the "star" players are only available for play until mid to late August. The longer the league is pushed back, the less games these basketball "superstars" will participate in. So when the Space Cowboys come within a game of the tournament, blame it on Mr. Lubbers, for if the league would have started on time, they would have had their entire team to compete for one week longer. **** T-Shirts STILL Available For Pickup **** The Space Cowboys official "game jersey" and "t-shirt" have been recieved and are available to be picked up at your convenience. Quite a few have are ready been handed out, but we are still waiting on a few of you. As a reminder, your thirteen (13) dollars ($) is due before the "recieval" of your shirt. Don't wait too long, because after thirty (30) days the shirts become sole property of the Space Cowboys. And they may do whatever they wish with them. So don't hesitate. Get your money in and the shirt on your back! **** Space Cowboys Offical Website Up **** The Space Cowboys launched their website for the first time this week. Keith Lubbers, "honarary" Cowboy came up with the design and did the programming for the site. As he still has yet to find a job, he did this not as a favor to the Space Cowboys, but for one (1) orange personalized Space Cowboys t-shirt. A small price to pay for the wonderful design. On the site you can find everything from personal and team stats, to the upcoming schedule and results. Also, don't forget to check out the team roster and profiles. The site will be updated as often as possible, but the Occasional Orbiter will still be there to let you know of all the happenings of the home team. You can find the Space Cowboys Official Team site at www.geocities.com/spaceranch2001. **** Space Cowboys Softball Update **** The Space Cowboys Softball team continued their losing ways Friday night. For just the second time of the season, the 'boys kept the score within ten (10) runs to force the entire game to be played. Overall this was a much better showing for the hometeam, who put together a couple solid innings with five runs to show for them. Mike Ash followed up his first ever hits in the previous game to once again go "0 fer", dropping his average to even more of a disgrace. On the bright side, Kevin Brinkman continued his hot hitting have a nice three hit night. The Cowboys will once again be taking the field this week at the new sports complex at FOPA. The time of the game will be forthcoming. That will be it for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter, but keep your eyes open for your next "occasional" reading. And, as always, new subscibors are always welcome, just send an email address to occasionalorbiter@hotmail.com and say "new subscribor"! Editor-in-Chief Nick "Stud" Lubbers wee eee wee eee
