THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Tuesday May 4, 2004 Vol.106 Hi, hello and and aaaahhhhhhhhhhhh......it feels so good to be back, fellow Cowboys of the Space variety. And although we are not back to stay, an update seemed to be in order. **** Cowboys Back in Action **** It has been a busy week in the world of the Space Cowboys. Not only is the softball season upon, but the "real" basketball 'boys will be back in action for the first time in over a year. On April 22, 2003, the Space Cowboys we have known and loved stepped off the floor and the team was never the same. With the completion of the 2003 Winter Season tournament two "lifelong" cowboys walked away from the game to concentrate on softball and one "pretty long time" 'boy walked away knowing some day he would return. With the loss of these three 'boys, Michael Ash, Jeremy Jeffries, and James Boyer, the team had to turn to another source of players to even field a team. Although it looked good on paper, the aquisitions of some former Holy Cross stars was the beginning of the end. The team basically changed hands and the Space Cowboys that had been participating in leagues at Sports of All Sorts for five years had vanished. A year has gone by, but the Cowboys have not completely disappeared. hey made a couple appearances in intramurals at Northen Kentucky University and have finnally surfaced ready to take back the Sports of All Sorts spotlight. That's right, beginning next Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at 6 P.M. the Space Cowboys will tip-off their second career at Sports of All Sorts. This team, although not the "originals" consists of a more Cowboy oriented team. Returning members are Nick Lubbers and James Boyer, with a possible appearanace from fan favorite, "Big Man" Ben Keene. One time 'boy and emergency replacement John Rasp will get the call full time, along with intramural 'boy Daniel Gerwe. But the most exciting member of the team could be Daniel Resing, making a LONG awaited comeback. Mr. Resing was ith the 'boys at the very beginning, before the "Space Cowboys" even existed. Early into the cowboy era, he called it quits and has made just one very emergency replacement appearance since. But now he is back and ready to reclaim his role as a leader. Joining these 'boys will be Matt Trapp and one or two others to be announced at a later date. So as we say here at the Occasional Orbiter, come on out to the "big arena by the highway" to catch the Cowboys back in action. Pregam festivities will begin at 5:30 with the tip-off set for 6:00. **** Space Cowboys Softball Ready to Roll **** The "new look" Space Cowboys softball team will kickoff their season this Thursday, after a rainout Sunday morning. The 'boys will take the field at the Bill Capel Sports Complex in Latonia (formerly FOPA) at 7:30 P.M. on field #2. The roster, full schedule and all the latest news on the Space Cowboys softball front can be seen at the newly designed http://www.spacecowboysoftball.com. **** KPB Missing in Action**** For those of you who thought you may be able to catch a glimpse of the ever ppular Kevin P. Brinkman at the Space Cowboys basketball reunion, and even on the softball field, you are in fro some disappointment. Mr. Brinkman, who has been attending Bellarmine University since graduating from Holy Cross High School in 2000, will be graduating this Saturday May 8th. Upon graduating Kevin, or Buddy as some of his friends call him, will be taking a job in the greater Louisville area, thus missing out on the Space Cowboy revival. It is no secret the he will be missed, but hopefully he will be able to make some sort of apprearance at both the Bill Capel Sports Complex as well as the "big arena by the highway" to provide that sparks that he emits from the bench or the field/court. To celebrate the career of Mr. Kevin P. Brinkman the Space Cowboys organization will be presenting him with a lifetime achievment award. Although the game date has not yet been set, Mrl Brinkman will be honored at some point this season for his contributions to the Cowboys Basketball, Softball, the organization as a whole, and to the community. We will get you the detials of the celebreation as they become available. **** News and Notes **** It has been almost exacly one year since the last edition of the Occasional Orbiter, May 5, 2003....Longtime cowboys supporter Jessica Kidd just celebrated her 21st birthday, Happy Birthday Jessica....Daniel Resing and Nick Lubbers will also be clebrating birthday's this month, Dan his 22nd (May 22), and Nick his 23rd (May 18).....The Space Cowboys will be celebrating their sixth year and over 15th season at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. We can only hope that after a year of Cowboyless action, referees Ron and Slim are still calling the shots at the "big arena by the highway"....Michael Brinkman will be listed as an official "emergency replacement" to begin the season.... **** A Look Back....**** The Space Cowboys have now been around for some time, and now a look back.... Occasional Orbiter Vol. 11 - May 21, 2001: Hello fellow Cowboys of the Space variety. We here at the Occasional Orbiter would just like to remind you of the upcoming Space Cowboy's game this week. Our team will be taking the court Tuesday, May 22 at 7 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. They will be taking on the always dangerous DJJ "thuggy thugs" en route to extend their current win streak to a season high two (2) games. This week will also mark the return of our normal promotions. As mentioned previously this game will be the first annual "Everybody Get Naked to Watch the Game" for a mere five (5) dollars ($). And again we reserve the right to refuse service. But that's not all, we have also been informed that Space Cowboy guard Dan Resing, will be celebrating his nineteenth (19th) birthday on game day. And keeping with the "naked" theme, every one will be invited for a pregame "naked ass spanking" of Mr. Resing. Spankings will be limited to nineteen (19) a piece and begin approxamately twenty-seven (27) minutes before the start of the game. Regular pregame activities will ensue immediately following the spankings. So, we hope to see all of you out at this week's Space Cowboy's basketball contest at 7 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. If there has ever been a night to come out to watch great basketball and enjoy some good ole naked ass slappin, this is it. It's bound to be a shaboigen of a time! This has been a look back at Space Cowboys history! That will be all for this edition of your occasional reading, whether or not it remains occasional and not annual remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, there will be a "farewell" issue when we finally decide to hang'em up. So you have at least one more to look forward to. Editor-in-Chief Nicholas J. Lubbers Manos de Oro
