THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Monday April 7, 2003 Vol.102 Hi, hello and welcome fellow Cowboys of the Space variety to this the one hundred second edition of your occasional reading. **** All Around Effort = Win **** In one of their most balanced offensice games of the season the Space Cowboys won their fourth consecutive contest coming away with a sixty-nine (69) to sixty-two (62) victory over the "thuggy thuggs" of Famous Dave's. The home team jumped out to an early eighteen (18) to five (5) lead and thought the game was going to be a "cakewalk". But the 'thuggs wold proove fiesty and the 'boys hot shooting in the early goings would not last. Famous Dave's picked up the intensity on both ends of the floor and the results were immediate. They used a nineteen (19) to ten (10) run to cut the lead to four (4) at twenty-eight (28) to twenty-four (24) at halftime. Although you would think the Cowboys would come out ready to regain their lead, they did nothing of the sort. The 'boys began the second half very laid back and it soon cost them. They would lose the lead, fourty-eight (48) to fourty-seven (47) before regaining it just seconds later. They would not trail for the remainder of the game due in large part to their clutch free throw shooting. Shooting from the charity strike has been somewhat inconsistent for the 'boys, but they managed to knock them down when they needed too. The 'thuggs began fouling with just under two (2) minutes remaining in the game with the home team holding an eight (8) point lead. For the game the 'boys connected on fourteen (14) of sixteen (16) free throws. This offset the 'thuggs attempted comeback knocking down a few three's in the closing minute. The win, the team's fourth in a row, pulls their record to a respectable five (5) wins and three (3) losses. If they 'boys win out (they have two games reamaining against teams they have already beaten this season) they will set a record for wins in a season with seven (7). **** Boxscore April 1, 2003 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Feldman 2 6 14 1 5 1 1 14 N.Lubbers 23 5 14 2 7 4 4 16 Jeffries 24 4 10 2 6 0 0 10 Ash 30 0 4 0 4 5 6 5 Boyer 33 3 8 1 3 2 2 9 Schickling 34 5 8 1 2 2 3 13 Keene 44 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 Totals 121 23 69 7 27 14 16 69 38% 26% 88% Rebounds:49 (Feldman 17, Lubbers 10, Jeffries 9, Boyer 4, Schickling 4, Keene 3, Ash 2) Assists:15 (Schickling 5, Feldman 4, Boyer 2, Jeffries 2, Lubbers 2) Steals:5 (Jeffries 3, Lubbers, Schickling) Attendance: 6 (Batsche, Elsbernd, Moser, Noll, Sargent, Sears) Season Attendance:40 Special thanks to Scorekeepers Christina Batsche and Tony Sargent **** Next Game Tuesday April 8, 2003 **** The Space Cowboys will be in action once again this Tuesday, April 8 at 9 P.M. at Sports of All Sorts in Florence. The 'boys will be taking on another long time rival in the "thuggy thuggs" of PWA. Coming into this contest the 'thuggs have yet to win a game in the 2003 Winter Season. The home team defeated them seventy-nine (79) to sixty(60) in the first game of the season. They have never lost to these 'thuggs and do not intend on stopping that streak this week. With a win the 'boys will being their record to six (6) and three (3) and put themselves in prime position for a good playoff spot. But although they are confident the 'boys cannot afford to overlook these 'thuggs. They have nothing to lose and do not want to have the tables run against them. Expect a big game from "Big Man" Ben Keene this week. With his one (1) point per game he will need to score a basket for just the third time in five (5) game to keep his scoring average above the one (1) point mark. The lack of a real inside presence for the 'thuggs should defintely be to his advantage. Also a better than average day from beyond the arc would not be surprising either. In their previous meetings the 'boys have twice set a club record for shooting percentages. So come on out to the "big arena by the highway" to witness the 'boys take down the "thuggy thuggs" of PWA. Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 8 at 9 P.M. Doors will open at 8:42 with pregame festivities following at 8:53. **** News and Notes **** Injury Report:N/A....Michael Ash failed to live up to the excpectations he has set for himself against Famous Dave's. Mr. Ash was averaging over twenty (20) points in his career against them....The 'boys as a whole struggled from beyond the arc. They too, have a history of "lighting up" the 'thuggs. They shot just 7/27....Lance Schickling finally got his floaters in the lane to fall and as a result shot 5/8 from the field. He was 5/17 and 3/12 in his last two games respectivly....A week after making a record ten three's Rob Feldman connected on just one (1). He did make up for it on the boards. Another record: Rob pulled down seventeen (17) rebounds breaking the previous mark of eleven. He also recorded his seconbd double-double. Nick Lubbers recorded his first and Jeremy Jeffries was one rebound shy of making three (3) double-double's in one game....Attendance for hte Winter season is somewhat lacking. The current total of forty (40), through eight (8) games is nineteen (19) less than the total from last Fall Season, which was only eight (8) games.
