THE OCCASIONAL ORBITER Monday March 31, 2003 Vol.101 Hi, hello, and welcome felLow Cowboys ofthe Space variety to this wonderful edition of your occasional reading. **** Feldman Leads 'Boys to Third Straight Win **** Rob Feldman connected on a record setting ten (10) three pointers in scoring a record setting thirty-eight (38) points, as the Space Cowboys defeated the "thuggy thuggs" of the Skunk Buds seventy-five (75) to sixty-five last Tuesday night for their third consecutive victory. Mr. Feldman was hot right out of the proverbial gates as he made three (3) of his first four (4) attempts from behind the arc and six (6) of nine (9) in the opening period. The "lax" zone of the 'thuggs was a large contributor to the terrific outside shooting. The team as a whole shot nine (9) for twenty(20) in each half to finish at forty-five (45) percent (%) for the game. Although the home team trailed by one (1) point at halftime, they felt the game was theirs to lose. And letting the lead grow to as much as ten (10) points, the 'boys decided it was time to make a run. After knocking dowN a few more three's (3)'s they had gained the lead and would not relinquish it. Clutch free throw shooting down the stretch was a key factor and balooned the lead to ten (10) by the time the horn sounded. **** Box Score March 25, 2003 **** Name No. Fgm Fga 3ptm 3pta Ftm Fta TP Feldman 2 14 27 10 18 0 1 38 N.Lubbers 23 6 13 4 8 2 2 18 Jeffries 24 3 7 3 6 0 0 9 Ash 30 - - - - - - - Boyer 33 1 4 0 2 0 0 2 Schickling 34 3 12 1 7 1 2 8 Keene 44 - - - - - - - Totals 121 27 62 18 40 3 5 75 44% 45% 60% Attendance:4(?) The 'boys will be taking on one of their more "long time" rivals in that of the "thuggy thuggs" of Famous Dave's. The 'boys came out ahead in both of their meetings in the 2002 Fall season. The current record and standing in the 2003 Winter season is the same as the home team, at four (4) wins and three (3) losses. This is bound to be a great game. The 'boys are looking to contiue their hot play right into the tournament with the hopes they can come away with their first ever Sports of All Sorts Tuesday Night League Championship. For Tuesday's game, Cowboy guard Jeremy Jeffries will be unveiling his new self. Mr. Jeffries has been working hard all week to finally get himself into "playing shape", which is anything but round. It has been runooured that he will come to the game at a svelt one hundred sixty pounds (160) pounds. And in showing off his new self he will be putting on a clinic of sorts for all those who wish to learn how to shoot the "long ball." So come on out to the "big arena by the highway" to catch a skinny Jeremy Jeffries making shots.(?) Also don't miss the Space Cowboys as they try for their fourth straight win. Doors open at 7:47 with pregame festivities beginning at 7:52. **** Two Year Anniversary **** Once again a thanks goes out to Nikole Lenihan, currently of Louisville, KY. reminded us for the second straight year of our anniversary. The first edition of the Occasional Orbiter put in cyber print on March 26, 2001. Although the second year anniversary passed uneventful, we thought we wold pass it on to you. At the time of our last State of the Cowboys address things were not going well for the team. The rebuilding was underway and there was the promise of a contender in the future. But for one team, as they moved into the Great American Arena in 2003, they had acutally built a solid base and put a conteding team on the court. Since the victory on the one year anniversary, the Cowboys have posted a twenty-four (24) and seventeen (17) record, one that coinsides with the aquisition of Lance Shickling. Along with Mr. Shickling, and because of him, the 'boys have also aquired, what has been to this point, one season rentals. First, in the 2002 Fall Season it was Andrew Krallman, who was second on the team in scoring and gave the 'boys a much need inside presence. But even with the two "stars" theh home team fell shorts of the S.O.A.S.T.N.L.C. once again falling to the Smokies. Currently, Mr. Schickling has brought in Rob Feldman, whom as you read ealrier is haveing a record setting season. Although their current record is not league leading, they have been playing their best basketball over the last three games. Mr. Feldman has been a large part of their success. But what would a State of the Cowboys address be without kevin Brinkman. Mr. Brinkman is haveing an adequate season with the Louisville Earth Cowboys of the International Leauge. He has been averaging about eight (8) points a game, but has not solidified his all around game to get the "call up" to the big club. In the last year the overall view of the Space Cowboys has changed in the eyes of their competetors. The 'boys are no longer the walking mat of the league (that title currently belongs to the 0-8 PWA), they have made a name for themselves other than their bright orange "unis". Fear. That is the first thing in the mind of the opposition upon seeing their matchup with the Space Cowboys on their schedule. They are no longer a team to be messed with. The have molded themselves into a perrenial contender andit has not gone unnoticed. As the two year anniversary of the Occasional Orbiter passes the 'boys are trying to build their team and reputation even more. With their current four (4) and three (3) record the home team will try to post their thrid consecutive winning season. And with any luck, this will be the one that ends in a victory and the S.O.A.ST.N.L.C. **** News and Notes **** Injury Report:N/A....Michael Ash missed his second game of the season Tuesday, he was suffering from an unknown illness. He has gotten the "goahead" to play in this week's matchup....After tying a few records in the previous weeks, Rob Feldman put his name all over the record book with his performance against the Skunk Buds. Mr. Feldman broke the records for: three pointers made with 10 (8), three pointers attempted 18 (14), field goals made 14 (13), field goals attempted, 27 (21) and points scored with an amazing 38, previous reocrd being 31. Congratulations Mr. Feldman for a great game. Those records will go into the books as soon as the first game of the 2003 Spring Season is played....Lance Scickling continued his frigid shooting going three (3) for twelve (12) from the field. Taking out his twenty-five (25) point performance from a few weeks ago Mr. Schickling is shooting sixteen (16) for fifty-five (55), twenty-nine (29) percent from the field and ten (10) for thirty-two (32) from beyond the arc. It's a good thing those assists keep on coming....Due to one scorekeeper present at the March 25 contest there are no "extra" statistics available. That will be all for this edition of the Occasional Orbiter. If you ahve any questions, comments or concerns email us at occasionalorbiter@hotmail.com.
