Cate Blanchett
Ever since I saw Elizabeth, I've been mesmerized by what a good actress Cate Blanchett is. The reason I've built this page was to honor her, and also to honor the character she played (Elizabeth the first).
I still have a lot to learn about Cate. I know that she was born january 1st 1969 in Melbourne Australia, although there is a rumor that the 1st is not the correct date (but january and the year are right!). She's one of three children. There's her older brother Bob and her younger sister Genevieve, a theater designer in Sydney.
She left Melbourne University in curriculum of Economics and Fine Arts to pursue a more successful acting career at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) from which she graduated in 1992.
She acted in many Sydney Theater Company productions such as Caryl Churchill's TOP GIRLS and Tymothy Daly's Kafka Dances, and also was in the Belvoir Street Theater production of The Tempest and the Blind Giant is Dancing. She was also in a few television shows: Police Rescue (1994), Heartland (1994), GP (1995) and Bordertown (1995). As for films, she acted in the following: PARKLANDS (1996) short film, PARADISE ROAD (1997) with Glenn Close, THANK GOD HE MET LIZZIE (1997), OSCAR & LUCINDA (1997) with Ralph Fiennes, ELIZABETH (1998) with Joseph Fiennes, Geoffrey Rush and Christopher Eccleston, PUSHING TIN (opening in April 1999) with John Cusack, AN IDEAL HUSBAND (due out this summer 1999) with Minnie Driver and Rupert Everrett, THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY (due out later this year 1999) with Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jude Law.
Cate's obviously been busy and will keep on being so now that she's gotten everyone's attention with Elizabeth!
