Jacob’s Ladder

I’m ascending

One rung at a time

Attaining wisdom

Along the way

For no matter the language

That comes and goes

The idea for a poem

I’ve yet to write

In the manner

That cultures

Mix and match

I see evolution

In its simplest form

The lessons of the past

And present

We all must learn

In order to move above

I’m lifting my legs

One stair at a time

Enjoying the scenery

Along the way

Countless others

To the left and right

In realization

We’re all on the same journey

No matter the ladder chosen

How it makes sense

To help one another

On the ascent

In the manner

That certain behavior

Connects all cultures

A handshake    a hug

Facial expression

An entire planet’s souls

Joined together

In a global Namaste

I’m climbing up

One rung at a time

Gaining humility

Along the way

For always above

The sun and moon

As steady reminder

Upon reaching the summit

Do not be afraid

To enter the light

According to the Kabbalah, Jacob's Ladder, which was disclosed to Jacob in a vision, was a metaphorical representation of the powers of alchemy operating through visible nature. The ladder was a "rainbow," or prismatic staircase, between heaven and earth. Jacob's dream symbolizes a theory of the hermetic creation. There were said to be only two original colors, red and blue, representing spirit and matter. Orange is red mixing with the yellow light of the sun; yellow is the radiance of the sun itself; green is blue and yellow; indigo is blue tinctured with red; and violet is produced by the mingling of red and blue. The sun is alchemic gold, and the moon is alchemic silver. It was believed that all earthly creations were produced through the interaction of these two potent ruling spirits.
