In Mind’s Eye and Ear
OOOO-HEEEE-OOOO
as we lumber down
the transit way of life
every era has a keepsake
that continues to light our mind’s eye
resonates in the mind’s ear
OOOO-HEEEE-OOOO
not unlike grains of desert sand
under the right atmospheric conditions
known to sing on their own
a peculiar phenomenon reveals itself
in 2005’s version of suburbia
OOOO-HEEEE-OOOO
where downtown’s tiresome whine
has no dominion
a pleasantly haunting sound
adds sonic depth to the greenery
in a new model of bus
OOOO-HEEEE-OOOO
with roof mounted air conditioner
orifices arranged in such a way
as to whistle hello to pedestrian
give the vehicle life
outside of internal combustion
OOOO-HEEEE-OOOO
in journeys to come
when these metal beasts and me
have long since retired
I will travel back
in mind’s eye and ear
and fondly recall
a peculiar phenomenon
and song
OOOO-HEEEE-OOOO
