Perfect Doll.
Scene 1- Held Up High

Doesn't matter how. Doesn't matter what. The only thing that does is the Extreme belt being safe in my grasp... Where it belongs. I promised myself to place something different into this title... So far hard work and intelligence. It's something certain people would be wise to learn... To pay attention to but I know better than that.

Zach and Aiden... They tried their hardest to snatch the title away from me. They claim all is fair but I call it cheap. They are cowards. They ran from me. They hid from me. Zach tried to play a childish prank but he didn't understand. Aiden accompanied him believing that path to be the one leading him to gold... Suppose I show everyone that it doesn't matter what tactics they try I will always find a way to overcome. I swore I would keep the title no matter what... That is why I had to break a few rules and injury them. It wouldn't matter if I felt any remorse because their attitudes make it difficult to feel anything but frustration.

A new year but nothing would be changed with Sophia. All things were in place for now.... If only for the moment. Now it was time to beat a pair again... tagged with Aiden's girlfriend, the new US champion, Cassidy. She is probably just like her boyfriend. Which means we'll work together but I'll be sure to be just as weary of her as I am the rest of them... I'm sure she wants to beat them more than she would want revenge. I'm sure she wouldn't take it personally over what I did to retain my title. Why would she? It would accomplish nothing...

I'm almost too tired to worry about the match... I retained and nothing else matters. I retained and there is nothing to worry about.

I am STILL Extreme Champion. There is no changing that.

Scene 2- Harsh Repercussions

Sophia stared forwards chewing on the inside of her cheek to keep from speaking. Across the room Ms. Melanie stared down a papers scattered all over the desk. It felt like an eternity of silence before Ms. Melanie lifted her gaze up to the fidgeting brunette on the couch.

“What were you thinking?”

Stiff movements, a shift of her legs and Sophia just stared to the floor. The swirling carpet designs made her head spin. Shoulders shook side to side to cope with a nervous chill.

“... It was my title...”

“You aren't cleared to drive! The last time you did,”

Ms. Melanie paused as she furiously dug through papers and finally produced one. It was held upwards as she read from it.

“You nearly hit three people and crashed the car into a lamp post! Do you actually believe that a title is important enough for you to break an agreement?!”

“Yes! It's my title! I worked for it! It's mine! I had no choice! They hid away from me! They ran from the arena! I didn't know what to do! They cheated! I-I-... Aiden said anything goes but... ”

Sophia was near to tears but inhaled sharply. Ms. Melanie steady her gaze on the brunette and rubbed her forehead.

“Sophia no title is worth the repercussions that now face you. They want to evaluate you and I am going to have to upgrade your medication.”

Sophia's eyes widened as she rose from the couch.

“No! No-- they can't do that! Why is this MY fault?! I-I-I-- this isn't fair! It's not my fault! I had to....I had no choice. I had no choice!”

Ms. Melanie gave the hysterical woman a look of pity.

“There is nothing I can do Sophia. It is over my head at this point...”

Sophia bolted for the door not allowing Ms. Melanie to stop her and for once the woman did not lift a finger to. The brunette rushed down the halls to escape the building. She had been through these before. They would strip the title off of her. They would lock her away. She would lose Devin and never see him again. Evan's promise would be broken and it would be out of his control. Sophia Halter would be torn away from everything once again...

Scene 3 – 'You're my home'

The news felt fresh and caused immense fear. Sophia tried to ease the jitter as she ran down the sidewalk. Her lungs felt full of air yet still gasping, the inside of her throat was raw from the wind and her legs wobbled. Sophia had lost track of how long she had been running to go visit her dear friend. It was possible that she had been running even before Devin invited her over. The all too familiar door came into view. Fear flushed from her body replaced with pure joy. Another light switch flipped. Sophia reached out bumping her knuckle against the wooden surface and in a few short minutes it opened up. Devin opened his mouth to speak but was cut off due to Sophia who flung her body into his to hug him. She buried her face against his chest with a bright smile on her face. He let out a small chuckle, returning the embrace. Devin dip his head as he gave the woman a soft squeeze.

“Well it’s good to see you too, Soph.”

She responded by nuzzling her face against his chest. Sophia stopped and looked up at him but did not release him.

“You smell good.”

Sophia’s lips tugged to the side as her eyebrows scrunched because the comment sounded a bit strange to say. Devin's mouth twisted into an awkward smile, it happened quite often, with the corner of his mouth turned up.

“Thanks… Umm… You do too.”

She uncoil her arms from around his waist and held both hands behind her back while her brown eyes wandered from side to side.

“Sorry… That was weird…”

He laughed, shaking his head. Minor awkward moments were a normal occurrence between the two.

“It’s fine. I just got out of the shower so.. Thanks for noticing! It’s a much better reaction than ‘Wow, you smell like a sweaty gym sock that’s been laying around for a month.'”

Giving off a playful smirk, he flashed her a wink. Sophia giggled as she gently swayed from side to side. Her whole body tilt to the side to glance beyond Devin.

“Can I come in?”

“Oh! Yes, of course.”

Rubbing the back of his neck a little bit, stepping to the side to let her enter in. Sophia followed inside with a little bounce in her step. It was clear she was happy to see him again. With a quick twirl she faced him as she continued to walk backwards.

“How was your Christmas?”

He closed the door behind them and then turned around, giving her a smile.

“It was very nice. I went to Detroit to visit my parents. Pretty quiet but enjoyable day. How was yours?”

“I was alone but it was nice… It was quiet. I enjoyed it.”

She stopped walking when she backed into his couch.

“It would have been better if I could have seen you but at least I can do it now.”

He offered up another smile, placing a hand on her shoulder. Sophia smiled as an automatic response.

“I would have liked that too. Maybe next year. And yeah, I’m here now. Better late than never, right?”

She leaned up to close some of the distance between the two of them. Devin didn't budge as he watched her closely.

“Yes… “

Sophia pressed her lips against his. Slowly closing his eyes as she made contact with his lips, he softly pressed his back to hers. As the kiss came to an end, he opened his eyes to look at her and another smile came across his face.

“I’ve missed you..”

“Maybe you should stop working so much then…”

She teased him playfully. Despite the jokes a part of her wished he would stop working so much. Most of the time she was alone and lately it felt like punishment to be. Her mood swings would send her spiraling. It was drained all of her energy leaving the only escape was to be sound asleep.

“Man, I wish I could have just stopped. You don’t know how drained I’ve been recently. Thankfully things are gonna be going back to normal soon, so I’ll be able to be around a lot more.”

Sophia smiled but it faltered as she sunk down to the floor. All the happiness felt sucked out of body leaving behind a hollow husk. This wasn’t suppose to happen again. It was suppose to stop around Devin. It always did. Sophia was tired of this dizzying depression that came and went as it pleased. In order to not sound crazy she just stared up at Devin a little helplessly. He noticed the sudden change in her demeanor and raised an eyebrow, looking back at her.

“Are you alright?”

“I… I threw out my meds… I… I’m just... I’m tired and I feel awful.”

Sophia confessed then pressed her head back against the couch. A weight crushed down like chains on a prisoner.

“... I messed up too. I messed up… Ms. Melanie knows… They know… I messed up everything and I might not be able to see you anymore.”

Her voice cracked as she burst into tears. He looked on, even more confused than ever.

“What? What are you talking about?”

“I-I’m not suppose to drive a car…. It’s a long s-story… but I had to drive because they ch--cheated. They cheated Devin-- what was I suppose to do?! I had to drive to find them… I hit someone with the car and they knew and they had to draw blood because I can’t drive. I’m not allowed to. I just… They had to ask questions… and I’m not on my meds and now they have to review things and I have to get new meds and--”

Sophia wiped her eyes furiously trying to calm herself down to no avail.

“The last time they did that they had to lock me away because I wouldn’t take my meds. They weren’t working anymore. I couldn’t wrestle anymore and I couldn’t see my friend anymore and they are going to do it again.”

“Hey. Hey…”

He crouched down next to her, softly running a hand over her shoulder.

“Relax, Soph. It’s gonna be okay. They’re not gonna lock you away. You’ll be fine. Everything will be fine.”

“What if it’s not?! What if I can’t see you anymore?”

She gasped suddenly and moved so both of her arms wrapped around his neck as her face nuzzled in the crook of his neck. In return, he put both arms around her, hugging her.

“You’re thinking the worse. That’s a lot of ‘what ifs.’ Just relax, take a couple of breaths and calm down… It will be okay… Trust me..”

Her arms tightened slightly but not enough to choke him or cause discomfort. Devin's words caused the tears to stop but the heavy sense remained. What if this was the last time she saw him?

“... I don’t want to think of it that way but it’s happened before… You… You are… I’ve just… I’ve just never felt… at home…or safe... Anywhere... but…”

Sophia shut her eyes.

“With you that changes.”

His mouth opened slightly upon hearing her words, before pressing his lips tightly together. His voice became soft as he responded.

“I’m glad you feel that way. Things feel different when I’m with you too… in a good way. A great way..”

A smile appeared while the heavy feeling began to vanish right into thin air. Sophia loosened her grip on him so she could kiss him again. It was deeper, passionate, and complete warmth consumed her body. A million butterflies flutter inside her stomach before they spread out all over her body. Sophia slowly pulled away. She wasn’t sure what to say or if there were any words to say. He looked at her as she pulled away, a little breathless from the kiss. When he was finally able to speak, all he could muster up was one word that came out in a small whisper.

“Wow..”

Breathlessly a giggle left her lips before she leaned up to give him a quick peck again. He smiled widely, reaching a hand over and brushing some hair away from her face. Her eyes shut for a brief moment to enjoy Devin's touch. Sophia couldn’t help but feel herself smile more. Brown eyes locked with his own.

“Feeling a little better now?”

“Yes.You always make me feel better though.”

He gave a small shrug.

“I try my best.”

She reached up pressing her hand against his cheek. Gently her thumb rubbed against the soft surface of his freshly shaven face. Sophia eyes roamed around his handsome features before Devin reached up to place his hand over hers. When he went to intertwine their fingers he stopped feeling something on her ring finger however Sophia seemed to be oblivious.

“Oh… I almost forgot… I meant to bring your Christmas present but with everything else going on I forgot… I’ll have to remember to give it to you. Maybe we can go get it later tonight.”

She smiled as Devin removed her hand to check her hand. The look on his face changed to that of a bit of confusion and curiosity.

“What’s the ring? I’ve never seen you wear that before.”

Sophia scrunched her brows as she looked down at it. It was the silver one, the only one she owned. For some reason it had slipped her mind that it was still on her finger.

“Oh it was a Christmas gift from Evan.”

“Oh.. That’s nice…”

He noticed some writing on it but couldn’t make it out.

“What’s it say?”

Sophia lifted her hand up between them as if to give him a better view. When she spoke her tone was nonchalant thinking very little of her next words.

“Forever is a promise.”

His mouth opened slightly but words didn’t come out. Finally, he swallowed a bit hard, closing his mouth and slowly nodding.

“I see…”

Sophia lowered her hand taking notice of his reaction. Their hands broke as all contact between them vanished. The dread came back and Sophia felt glued against the carpet.

“...Devin? Are you okay?”

He stood up from where he was crouched down next to her.

“Yeah. Great. What guy wouldn’t want to see someone he cares for, wearing a ring from someone else, that says that?”

A somewhat flustered and hurt chuckle escaped his throat as he shook his head and ran a hand through his hair. Sophia seemed confused and slowly stood up. Her eyes glanced around trying to focus on something but her mind scattered.

“... Are you really acting like this again?”

She sounded a little annoyed finding zero patience for this ever cycling topic. They were always doing this to her. No moments with them stayed nice because of the other. Dread washed away with a surge of heat. The kind that burnt in ones stomach and made them want to scream.

“Really? You’re going to get mad at me for reacting like that, when you know how I feel? What am I supposed to say? Fill me in. Please. Because I’d really like to know.”

“Yes, yes I am getting mad at you. Did seeing this suddenly make you forget what just happened?! You are being unfair and jealous and I’m getting tired of it!”

“No. I didn’t forget. At all. And that’s what makes it… That’s what makes me feel like this. Act like this. ‘Forever is a promise.’ I’m suppose to shrug that off? Tell me you would if the roles were reversed. Look me in the eyes and tell me that, being 100% truthful.”

“No. No I’m not going to. You asked what it said so I answered. My relationship with Evan has nothing to do with you! Why do you always have to act like this when it comes to him?!”

“BECAUSE I LIKE YOU! A LOT! AND BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE-”

He was clearly getting flustered and shook his head, walking over to the closet and opening it. Sophia angry gaze was aimed towards the floor with both hands gripped at her sides. Meanwhile, Devin pulled out something that was gift wrapped and placed it on the floor next to where she was standing, leaning it against the wall.

“I got you a gift too. Merry Christmas, Sophia.”

His voice was lower this time. Much more. Most of the anger was gone and replaced with hurt. He started walking towards the door and opened it up. Sophia looked down at the gift, her curiosity getting the better of her as she knelt down. Carefully she ripped the wrapping paper off to look at a beautiful painting of a scene she’d know anywhere… It was like looking at a photo of the beach where they’d normally go. Their spot. Sophia frowned as she turned to look behind her but Devin had disappeared. Instead of following she just fully ripped the paper off. It was a medium size painting as she lifted it up to get a better look at it. Out of habit she twisted the painting around to look at the back noticing a small handwritten note.

"For whenever you're feeling lonely, this is to remind you that I'm always there will you in some way."

Sophia’s mouth fell open. A stumbling run carried her to the door so she could try and find Devin...
